I went to a restaurant the other day too. You're right, it was hard to decide. This restaurant has amazing tomato soup so I knew I wanted that, but I felt like I needed to order more than a cup of soup. As a former waitress I felt bad ordering a small cup of soup (I should probably get over this, huh?) I ended up ordering a grilled chicken breast too. I ate only a few bites & most of the soup. It was nice to get out but it was also kind of frustrating looking at the menu with incredibly restricted options.

    Date ideas

Anyone have some nice date ideas for hubby & I that don't involve dinner/drinks? What do you all do for fun?

My clothes are fitting so well right now, even the ones I thought would be too small! I'll probably have to go shopping soon
  4. So I'm going to preface this with the fact that its going to have some personal, and kind of icky content, but I'm really looking to find out if this is normal or if I should contact my doctor. I'm home sick from work today. I took some laxatives last night because I still haven't been able to go regularly and it had been at least 4 days. Overnight I woke with stomach pains that kept me up, but this morning when I got up to go to work & tried to go to the bathroom I experienced the worst case of constipation I have ever had in my life. It was excruciatingly painful and took me 2 hours to pass. As if that wasn't bad enough, it seems the laxatives have kicked in and I've been having diarrhea this afternoon. Aside from the painful constipation, my stool is still black and tarry in consistency. I'm just wondering if any of you have/are experiencing this and when, if ever, you started to regulate? Do you think I should call my doctor or surgeon? Thanks all and sorry for the gory details.

    Whine or wine?

My husband is a wine maker & I loooove me some Riesling, in fact it's probably what I miss most post-op. My surgeon said I could drink after 6 months, but to start very slow with it and make sure you're home with someone in case it doesn't sit well and you end up getting super drunk. Like a lot of things in the RNY world there seems to be a lot of differing opinions, but I know people who've had the surgery and drink wine just fine. Best of luck & Cheers!

    Liquid diet woes!

I only had to do 1 week of liquid and that was torture for me so I can understand your frustration. Try the Trop50 OJs & Juices and like jaymi suggested, add water to it. And the protein shake crazies...they don't go away!

    protien bars

The Quest ones sound good and there's a few Atkins ones that don't sound bad. I haven't had any yet since I'm only 3.5 weeks out, maybe in a few weeks I can try some.

I'm so jealous of all of you that get in 50+oz of water a day. I have a 32oz Nalgene bottle and yesterday was the first time I've been able to finish one, let alone 2!! How do you find the time (or pouch space) to drink that much?!?

  10. Hubby & I went out to dinner tonight. I had cup of tomato sop & ordered a grilled chicken breast. Ate only small amounts of both but it was really nice to get out of the house :)

Me too! I've tried so many different varieties with different flavored protein powders and I just find them all sickening. The only one I've found to be decent yet is chocolate protein powder mixed with a decaf skinny mocha from Starbucks.

    going out 2 eat

Great thread, my husband and I went out to eat frequently so it's been a little bit of a challenge for us now that we can't. We wanted to hit the chinese buffet and I was going to get soup, but couldn't justify $9.99 for 1/2 a cup of soup.

I can't wait to have some crackers. The Special K cracker chips are delicious, and not bad if you only eat a few. I'm dying for some crunch in my diet & since celery and lettuce are out of the question, looks like "healthy" crackers will be the way to go. If you're feeling nervous about having them in your house though then you should get rid of them. You don't want to feel bad about what you're eating. Good luck

    Should i be concerned?

I will talk with my doctor thanks! What about the constipation/diarrhea? Have others experienced this? I'm 3.5 weeks post op, hope it clears up soon!

I just can't get into my fitness pal. I tried a few times before surgery, too, but I always seem to forget to do it.

How are you all making sure you get enough protein/water/calories? Do you measure & count? Because I haven't done that at all and it seems like a major pain. Any tips or tricks?

Chicken has been one of my best friends! I like to have chicken salad made with light mayo & canned chicken with a piece of provolone cheese. I also like to eat rotisserie chicken. I can't eat baked chicken breasts though, it's too tough. Has to be slow cooked or canned.

    emotional mess

This is interesting and good to know. I'm at 3 weeks post op now, so I'll keep an eye out for it and warn my husband haha. My Graduate classes start this week, I wonder how the added stress will effect me.

"omfg Wait...you're Having What Type Of Surgery"?

THANK YOU! This sounds so much like me and is so close to what I did! I "came out" if you will on Facebook the day before my surgery because I wanted people to know that there's nothing to be ashamed of, in fact, I'm quite proud of the commitments I've made. Plus, how do you hide dramatic weight loss? Better to explain once then every time someone new sees you. I've been lucky to have positive reception, but there will always be nay-sayers. I too am a Grad student and know the pain of both the tiny desks and the tuition bill! Good luck with your journey!
  24. Wow Bward 47 pounds already? Impressive! I had my surgery the day after you and I'm onto the "soft food" stage. Today I had a crab cake (well like 1/3 of one) but pretty much everything Nicole mentioned above is great, plus yogurt SF puddings, italian ice/popsicles, and my new found have is rotisserie chicken from my supermarkets deli section. The leftovers make great chicken salad, too. If you're going to do ground meats I'd start with chicken or turkey & try to stay away from beef for another few weeks. Good Luck! I know how you feel, the liquids were the worst!
