When did you start eating salad?
dkm164 replied to vicki s's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I love salad and really missed it--waited till my 4th month out. Can eat very little of it still--just does not agree with my pouch. -
So one of the neighbors several houses away walked up behind me in the driveway as I was talking to my husband. When I turned around he gasped and said I thought Tim had got divorced because I kept seeing this skinny, young chick down here. Didn't realize the hot chick was you. Made me laugh--my husband said no I've had her for 35 years and the hot chick is all mine!

March 2013 Post Op "A New Life 2013"

Hi all--still following everyone's progress. Using little to no meds for the diabetes. Off the U-500 insulin and just taking Januvia currently. Off blood pressure and cholesterol meds--starting to feel normal. Still have issues with eating but getting better all the time. Shopping for clothes is fun again--currently in a 12. Doc wants me at 135 which is littler than I'm aiming for. My goal is 155 and we'll see from there. Down 39 pounds so far--glad I took this step. Keep up the hard work, we can do this. -

I was on U-500 insulin and a boatload of oral meds--really insulin resistant. Sugar was high after surgery which was 3/25. Has steadily come down. I took 10 units on the morning it was 134but other than that no insulin. I am still currently taking Januvia. Hoping to eventually be off all meds and have the diabetes under control. Feeling better with not having the highs and lows all the time. Best thing I could have done for my health. My ends was the one who suggested this would be the best way for me to get a handle on the diabetes. Currently not taking any cholesterol meds--will see what my next blood test shows. Figure I'm not eating much with cholesterol currently--will see how much my body is producing. Those pills are so big.

Hope that things turn around for you quickly here. Know how each day seems like an eternity in the hospital. Praying for rest, recovery and home. You've been through so much. Take care of yourself. -
I've noticed that my shoes feel looser. Always needed to order wide before--maybe not anymore! Too funny but a good reason to buy new shoes!

My husband and I have had the same conversation. Just because I am eating differently doesn't change my love of cooking. I'll just have to work harder to make the recipes fit my new life and enjoy the few bites I can. There are lots of wonderful foods that I haven't tried that may become my new favorites. I've made a choice and it's improved my life already in a week. Down to 10 units of insulin just once today and my sugar was 101 last. Yes,!this isn't going to always be easy but most things in life aren't and require effort on our part. At the same time I feel like I've been given a clean canvas and now it's up to me to create my new masterpiece. I plan on painting a Picasso! -
It does get easier with time. Never thought I'd be drinking water since I love my diet pop. Can't tell you the last time I had one. Just cut them out and went to water, tea, crystal light. You can do this--it's not always fun but is doable.

Describe your 1-day post-op PAIN please
dkm164 replied to Cherry's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't remember too much about day of surgery except falling in and out of sleep. Second day was the worst with stomach pain but I walked lots. Haven't taken any pain medicine since coming home Wednesday. Each day is a little easier. Yesterday walked a mile--slowly but still a mile. -
How do you keep your pets off of you?
dkm164 replied to Kurstin's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine seems to know I'm not feeling great. Hubby said she pined after me and went nuts any time someone came to the house till she figured out it wasn't me. She hasn't let me out of her sight since I came home yesterday. She even stayed in the bathroom while i took my shower yesterday. When I got up last night she got up and came to the family room with me. Just keeps giving me these sad little looks. -

So I have a question--had surgery Monday and left the hospital on full liquids. Sugar was high at the hospital but really low last night and I was having a heck of a time getting enough of anything in to bring my sugar up without dumping. Anyone else have this problem? -
Try Doctor Pepper 10, hubby hates diet but likes those. It cuts out some of the sugar.

Had surgery 3/25 and have to say I'm doing ok. Stomach very sore and feel like a Mac truck ran over me several times! Have progressed to full liquids and so far so good. Haven't felt like eating and no hunger pains. Doc was going to send me home this evening but having issues with the insulin and sugars too high. Sure hope this resolves itself since that is why I had surgery in the first place. Had a shower and have been walking lots. Baby steps towards the new me!

I've been doing house work and laundry getting ready for Monday morning. I have to be there at 5:15 AM for a 7:15 surgery. Ready to get this ball rolling. Excited, nervous you name it. Snow tomorrow--supposed to get a massage. Thought that would be good for stress. Hope we can get to the hospital Monday morning.

Good luck to all those with surgery this week. I'm a week out and so ready. If I need to do a clean out all I need to do is drink a protein shake! Time to get this show on the road.
-
Starting to get excited--crazy to be excited about surgery. Ready to get things going. Looking through all my stuff and getting ready to get vitamins, broth , protein powder, jello and pudding in. Know things will be rough for awhile but I can do this. Trying to get things done around the house that I have been procrastinating on--making progress there.

Finally got a call from the surgeons office today--they told me I was approved on 13 Dec. Surgery date is 25 March--had to push to then since my daughter is expecting my first grandchild. She's due 24 February and can't wait to meet my granddaughter. Figure that gives me time to spend a week with her even if the baby is late. So excited to get this show on the road and hoping that this surgery will help me get off some of the insulin and diabetes medicine that I'm on. New Year , new me. Have been drinking water, decreasing soda, and mentally preparing for this journey.

My surgery is 25 March--so ready for this. Hoping to get off the diabetes roller coaster. Am worried about the 2 week pre-surgery diet since I'm at bottom of where they will allow surgery. I'm doing this to try and beat the diabetes complications. Ladies in my nutrition class yesterday told me I was too skinny for this surgery. At 5'5" and 212 pounds I'm not exactly Olive Oil! Got to do what's best for my health. Tricare hoops were a pain but surgery day will be here before I know it!
