    Water

I drink crystal light lemonade and it has 35mg of sodium. I wouldn't worry about that small amount... if it helps you drink the water then so be it. The most important thing is to stay hydrated.

    So frustrated!

I should also add are you measuring yourself?? We often lose inches when the scale isn't moving and if you are exercising 5 days a week you are building muscle...which weighs more..

    So frustrated!

You are doing great. That is over 5 pounds a week. Could you have done that without surgery??? I had surgery the same day as you and I have lost 33 pounds. I had a doctors appointment on Tuesday and he was very happy with my progress and upped me to regular food (including raw veggies and salad). You just need to be patient and keep doing what you are doing. I know it is hard as I would love to have lost more but I know what struggles I have had the last 7 years and am happy to finally be where i am today. I also know that good things are still coming my way and am very excited about where I will be this summer. Hang in there...
  4. I went out at five weeks and had a cup of beer cheese soup and a bit of shrimp. I am now only six weeks but my surgeon upgraded my diet and I can now have regular food. I just know I need to be careful so I still will probably stick to the easy foods...at least for awhile..

    question about vitamins

In my program we are allowed to take b-12, b- complex and Multivitamin together then wait 2-3 hours and take calcium. So typicall i take morning med then calcium at lunch another MVI at supper and calcium again at bedtime. You should be able to take most of them together except for calcium and MVI. With Calcium you should not take multivitamin or Iron as you wont get as good of absorption.

    BOWEL MOVEMENT REGULARITY

I wouldn't let it go more then four days. You can get VERY constipated or impacted bowels and then you need to go to ER and have them manually dig you out. I would check with your surgeon regarding what he recommends for his patients for constipation and regularity. Mine says first start with MOM if that doesn't work 1-2 senna s at night and if that doesn't work Mirilax. Mirilax literally gave me diarrhea 5 hours after I took it so I wont do that again. Senna S works the best. Make sure you are getting plenty of fluids, fruits veggies and fiber... Good Luck PS- I had one episode of BAD constipation that I resolved on my own- thank god i am a nurse-lol, I pretty much go everyday....

    Period & Devo shots

I was put on the pill prior to surgery due to Endometriosis and painful cramps with period-I was basically taking 4 ibuprofen every three hours and since I was having surgery and Ibuprofen is a no no she placed me back on the pill. She had no problems with having me on it at 27. She states she has 40 year olds on it. I have never had children so i think I can't have iud. I really didn't want to mess with the shot. I take the actualy bcp everyday and skip placebo. Did have a period for about 14 days after surgery and prior to surgery had just gotten over period but otherwise no problems and NO cramps...

    Approved!

    Congrats-the hard part is over....
  10. I should also add that i get fruit and veggies in. I buy the atkins frozen meals and they have zucchini, green beans, cauliflower broccoli. I also buy the 4 packs of pears and mandarin oranges I just buy the ones in water versus syrup and no sugar added. I will be adding more fruits but don't like to eat too many as prior to surgery they would kick up my carb intake and when my carb intake gets to high I get cravings.. I know it will probably be different now but I am going to follow the Atkins way of life from here on out...
  11. For the most part I keep it very low. We don't have to specifically count carbs but I like to follow I more low carb diet as it keeps me satisfied/full. I on average take in 15-25 a day with my highest around 40-50. I try not to have too many days with high carb numbers...
  12. Hello and how exciting on your upcoming surgery. I had post op pain but for the most part is was manageable especially with the medications they provide. I was in the hospital Thurs- Sun per my program as the first 48 hour they watch for leaks with jp drain. My biggest issue was with nausea and I am pretty sure it was from the Fentanyl they had me on (both patch and PCA) It had me so drugged out I could hardly communicate and was nauseated. They sent me home with Zofran which helps with nausea as at times still have some weird nausea which surgeon says is normal after surgery to just have weird pains, or unexplained things happening with their body. He says regardless of surgery foot or bypass this can happen and usually subsides. I did have to sleep in a reclinner for the first 12 nights home as i am a side sleeper and was so uncomfortable- I had six poke sites and the stitches really started to pull towards the end making me uncomfortable. the worst pain is the left upper quadrant and it is because of the equipment they use for surgery really torks on your muscles and so it is sore. The best thing you can do is take the meds and walk. You will do fine-also remind yourself you just had MAJOR surgery and this too shall pass. Give it time- if your worried about anything call your surgeon they are really the best support and are their to help you or ask us... I have had horrid flatulence. I have tried gas x with little relief. I talked with my doctor and they had me try Devrom chewables it is a wonder drug and a must. You can order it at amazon or devrom.com. It is an internal deodorant and works great. I am six weeks out Thursday- down 32 pounds and feel great. I have energy and don't feel like I just had major surgery six weeks ago. I go back to work as a RN next week and I am ready. Yesterday I had dr. appointment and they increased diet to stage 4 or regular foods for my program so they said to introduce raw veggies and salads-just go slow. This really is the best thing I could have done. I have struggled the last 6-7 years after being diagnosed with PCOS and insulin resistance. I am very excited for what the future has in store-so I have no doubt you will feel great in no time at all. Just follow what they tell you.....Good Luck

    Free Vitamins

I only have to take the chewable twice a day and my multi twice a day and justmake sure there is two to three hour between multi and Calcium.

    Free Vitamins

I forgot about the calcium chews. We tasted all of them at our seminar and they were good. Only downfall is instead of taking calcium two times a day you would have to take three times a day and trying to spread them out between multi vitamin might get tough-but would be good calcium to take..

    Protein help again

All you can do is keep trying; I was having major issues initially also and kept trying and asking people what they used until I found some products I can tolerate. I had my six week follow up yesterday and my surgeon was so happy that I kept trying as protein is so important to get in and also will help keep us healthy and help prevent your hair from getting really bad.

    Free Vitamins

The calcium I cut up and chewed and drank water with. I initially hated them but made them habit. I don't know if any of them are that great. Just an idea.

    Protein help again

Also unjury has samples and so does vitalady.com..you can try them instead of having to buy a huge container...

    Protein help again

Try unjury or Syntrax nectar. I like the kiwi strawberry and tropical mango. From Unjury I like chicken soup (broth) and strawberry sorbet. There are also nonflavored ones you can add to foods. Don't give up. I can't do any Protein drinks that are milky-they make me gag.. I should add both unjury and nectar have 100 calories and protein unjury 21 and nectar 34. Low carb no added sugar...

    Need help

No, but I would contact your surgeon's office. Are you putting any dressing or creams around incision site? I know that band-aides and some adhesives can leave skin read and raised.

    Free Vitamins

I didn't like these initially either. What I did was cut them into four. So I didn't have to try and chew that big Vitamin. Worked much better... My surgeon stated I could buy all my Vitamins at walmart but strongly suggested bariatric advantage for calcium. I have also noted a lot of people referring to taking gummy vitamins and according to my surgeon these are a no no...

    January 2013 Post Op

Oh well, at least it was thin crust. We are all going to have foods that are not the best for us. The most important things to remember is moderation and after eating not so great foods make your next meal healthy. Even the healthiest of people cheat occasionally. The biggest thing is not to make a habit of it again...

    getting discouraged

Most low carb diets start out with an induction diet and you don't eat more then 20 net carbs a day. The first few days can be rough as you detox off the bad carbs but then the craving go away. As you move through the diet you up your carbs until you can't tolerate or would gain a pound. If interested go to Atkins.com they have wonderful info. This is the only diet that has helped me..

    Oikos Greek Yogurt

Can't stand the taste of greek yogurt. Kudos to you for being able to eat it. I skip yogurt all together...

    Syntrax Nectar

I love them too. I add lots of water to them and prefer strawberry kiwi, fuzzy naval and tropical nectar. You could try some crystal light. I put them in a container with a small opening to drink from so I don't get much of a smell. I know how frustrating finding protein drinks can be as I can't stand anything milky tasting so all those chocolate ones make me want to vomit. Good luck...
