Most surgeons say NO to gummies as they don't digest well. My surgeon has had patients come in post op with bad stomach problems from taking gummies and states it is like a cat with a hairball. I didn't ask anymore because that alone made me cringe.

I want you to know the first 2 weeks i did alot of resting. I am now 10 1/2 weeks out and doing fabulous. Let your body rest, it just went through major surgery. As long as you are getting out of bed you are doing fine. It gets so much better.... Congrats...

Seems to be alot of sugar. I would opt for a sugar free substitute.

What kind of discomfort did you have?
nienie replied to Nel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It was over 7 days and I had to use Milk of Magnesia for my first bm post-op. Now I go pretty much every day and if I don't I take a Senna S at night and then I go the next day. Just don't let yourself get constipated as it can get very severe... -
You need to find a vitamin that you can tolerate and stick with to stay healthy. I had a coworker stop taking her vitamins, she became very deficient and her hair fell out. I use the chewable vit. C from bariatric advantage. They are still slightly bitter to me but I decided to take those instead of chews because I wouldn't have to take as many times a day. I use a sublingual b-12 and a capsule b-1. I take Cerovite Jr. chewable vitamins and those aren't bad. I have heard people say that the chewable calcium from bariatric advantage are good. I would try those. My program actually had us test all the vitamins during the seminar so we knew what we were getting into since Vitamins are a must!! Good Luck

My surgeon had no special diet. I was just to not eating anything or drink anything after midnight. My surgery went great and I am 10 weeks out and doing wonderful. Personally I am very happy I didn't have to do a liquid diet. I would have failed for sure.. Just remember every surgeon is different and every program is different. Have faith in your surgeon and his program..

Have doctor increase Neurontin and see if that helps. You can take pretty hefty doses of that stuff. If that doesn't seem to help ask for Lyrica. -
It will all come together. I am a little over 10 weeks out and eating regular foods. I get all my liquids in and then some. I still don't have much of an appetite so eating is sporadic and I still use Protein drinks to make sure I get all my protein in. Initially, I couldn't imagine how in the heck it was all gonna work because I could hardly drink-but it will...

Every day it will get better. The first two weeks were rough. I was on liquids and felt yucky. After 14 days, I saw surgeon, stitches out diet upgrades to soft food so I felt much better. By a month out I felt awesome. Just remember you had MAJOR surgery so it is common to be tired, sore and all that other stuff. Just follow your surgeons orders and you will do fine

My Iv sites hurt for a month after. It is very common. I also had difficulty with IV's while in hospital and had many replaces- OUCH!!! Just watch the site. If it becomes red, warm or discharge of some kind comes out I would contact your doctor. They could have blown the vein when taking cannula out-happens. Veins just don't like little things poked in them. If you think the area is getting larger you could call and sometimes it is just good to call just for reassurance. Alot of IV sites get bruides or puffy with a hematoma after. My biggest concern would be some type of infection so it might not be a bad idea just to contact your doctor. You could also try some warm packs to see if that helps the pain or tylenol. Hope it gets better.

All six of my poke sites had stitches. I didn't get steri-strips until the stitches came out 13 days later. My guess is you have internal stitches that you wont have to worry about.. That will be a plus for you because the stitches started to pull on the new skin forming and hurt like heck.. -
Feeling hungry a lot of the time 5 days after operation. Could my stoma/pouch size be too big?
nienie replied to pdaz's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Until you get to actually have more solid foods you probably will not be satisfied. You also sound like you are experiencing some head hunger.. I know it got much better when i could at least have soft food because it felt like food. Hang in there. -
2nd day into liquid diet and I cheated!
nienie replied to Crkrjax76's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh well. We all have cheated. I can't imagine doing the liquid diet thing. I would have failed everyday. The thing is after surgery you just don't feel hungry and for me I was so afraid of doing something bad or getting sick I followed and still follow my surgeons program. Just make your next meal liquids.. your trying and your honest about your cheats!!! -

Question about red jello and bowel movements
nienie replied to Crkrjax76's topic in Food and Nutrition
I would check with your doctor. It is very possible that it is from the jelllo. We don't allow our pre surgicals at work to have red juice or jello prior to surgery or procedures and I am guessing because the red can mimic blood. Usually if you are bleeding somewhere in GI your bm is black. If you are having red blood when wiping it can be rectal bleeding due to hemorrhoids. I just always tell people to send a quick email to doctor just to be on safe side. -
What kind of discomfort did you have?
nienie replied to Nel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everyday gets better the first week was rough. My pain was worse on the left upper side as this is where they used the heavy equipment for surgery. I got my stitches out 13 post op and after that I was good as gold. I am 10 weeks out eating regular food and doing awesome. So happy that I had this surgery. -

Usually if food isn't going to stay down you know pretty soon after eating. Papaya Enzyme helps with digestion and breaking foods down. I have used it when food has upset my stomach and if something gets stuck. I also have Zofran sublingual for nausea as since surgery I have bouts of it. This is another miracle drug. -
How can I tell I'm full? How do I know if I'm drinking slow enough?
nienie replied to Nel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have noticed on occasion if I don't measure and just eat a hiccup means I am full... -

nienie replied to Nel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You will know if you are drinking too fast as it hurts. I know initially I just took sips but can take more now but still takes me time to get 16 oz down. As far as food I would measure follow your guidelines, eat slow and chew, chew, chew. I tend to put my fork down between bites and sometimes I am doing other tasks while eating so i don't eat so fast. -
I found it is best to stir the protein in really well otherwise it does get foamy. I stir most of it and then shake just a bit and I get just a little foam on top but nothing too bad.
-
I agree that the syntrex Nectar very cold are the best. I usually mix mine with a scoop and a half of protein powder 12 oz of water a few ice cubes and then I still put it in the fridge for a bit. I love them though. I am only using strawberry Kiwi. Might have to try the lemonade one thats sounds awesome..

Milk and milky protein drinks
nienie replied to celebrate*me's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can tolerate milk but can't stand milky tasting protein drinks. I use unjury chicken broth and Syntrex Nectar strawberry kiwi. I ordered strex from vitalady.com she has samples of tons of juice tasting protein drinks. I use a scoop and a half for 35 grams of protein per drink. Alot of times after surgery you can become lactose intolerant. Sometimes it is forever and other times for just a bit. -
these sound wonderful....

I use Syntrax Nectac strawberry kiwi- I use a 1 1/2 scoops with 12 oz of water every morning for 35 grams of protein. This helps so much in getting protein amounts in or close to in. If I have a bad eating day I also use the unjury chicken soup protein broth. It has 100 calories and over 20 grams of protein. I tend to eat mostly protein and a few veggies and salads. You will get this down it just takes a bit and helps once your are a couple months out.
