Six days post-op & having a horrible time getting all my protein.
KaylaMichelle posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery was last Friday, and I am having no luck with Protein shakes. It's not that they wont stay down, I haven't had anything come back up yet (thank god), but I just have no interest in drinking anything that isn't clear. I've tried a few different kinds of shakes. I can tolerate the taste of Baricare chocolate, but it's like I just don't want it. It took me an hour and a half to drink 3 oz tonight. I had 4 oz this morning, so I got a total of about 45 grams in today which is my best so far. I'm supposed to get 60. Other than that, today I had 4 oz of applesauce and a lot of Water and propel. I know that isn't enough! How can I make these next two weeks of all-liquids more appetizing? I'm worrying my family to death, but the truth is, I'm just not hungry, nor do I have any interest at all in food. (Except the applesauce. I really love the applesauce.) Also, one more random question: Why is applesauce okay during the post-op liquid phase, but other fruit smashed up at home isn't? I don't understand why I can't blend some fruit up with my Protein Shakes. That would for sure make them taste better! Thanks for any advice! Kayla -
Six days post-op & having a horrible time getting all my protein.

Thank you all! I'm doing pretty well with staying hydrated, and I will try the Carnation Instant Breakfast.. If I remember correctly, that's what I had in the hospital and it wasn't bad at all. Thanks again -
My omelet recipe involves mushrooms, a little onion, sweet peppers (if they don't bother you) and sometimes I even throw some chicken in there. I get the fully cooked roasted chickens from the grocery store and pull apart some bits to throw in. Adds Protein & can make it more of a dinner meal than a breakfast one Simmer the veggies and chicken in a skillet first so they are nice & soft (You can use a little olive oil if you like, but I just go with it dry so it doesn't get greasy.) Then set that aside and fry up the egg to desired done-ness, add chicken and veggies, flip, and voila! I'm just 6 days post-op, so still on liquids. Let me tell you.. as soon as I get the go ahead, I'm going to be chowing down (slowly of course) on some eggs

No Water... Just Tea ?!?!?

I'm not sure about this, but it could be that your water is too "hard." Maybe there is a lot of fluoride or chlorine in your tap and your tummy doesn't like it? You could try bottled water and see if you have the same issue. I like smartwater because they beef it up with electrolytes.
