    January Dates

The January losers bench is really getting long!! I love it and don't mind scooching over to make room for you all. You'll all be so happy when you start to see the changes. I came home weighing 6lbs more than when I went in (fluid and gas) but 8 days out I had lost that and 5 additional lbs. I'm a week 1/2 out and feel great. Still challenged physically and mentally at times, but doing much better each day.

    Fabulous February!

What part of northern ca are you from? I am too.
  4. Welcome and congrats on your decision! There are several places to gain support and learn from others. You'll find the December, January and February pre-op and post op groups very helpful, welcoming and
  5. Im only 1 1/2 weeks out but my husband also had the surgery in 2010 so I can only speak for us. It's very important to remember that everyone heals and deals differently so try not to compare yourself to others because you are unique. During the healing process we deal with changes both to our body and psyche. We learn to listen to our stomach and the signs it gives, and may want more or other foods we just can't handle. Eventually it gets easier and at some point we will be able to eat almost anything we want in moderation. I'm not at that point, I'm still on liquids for a few more days and then will move to 2 weeks of mushy foods. Right now I am dealing with a little head hunger, my sense of smell is heightened and that can be good and bad. My head says I want "real" food, but my body could care less. Sometimes this makes me grumpy, but I would gladly take grumpy over a lifetime of unhealthy. If you want to get more in depth information, feel free to join our "January dates" pre-op and "January 2013" post-op forums. You'll find a group of people who share, support, and help each other through the different stages of this process. BTW-congratulations and good luck!

    January Dates

I'll admit it's awkward and a little frightening at first, but the needles are very small and barely hurt at all. I gave them to myself 2x a day for 7 days. I was taught to wipe an area on my lower tummy with an alcohol swab, pinch an inch (or two ;] ) and just stick the needle in then push in the plunger until the medicine is emptied out. Then all you have to do is remove the needle from your skin and push down on the plunger to enclose the needle prior to disposing of it. You won't even need a bandaid, but you will need to do it in different spots each time, and have some kind of container on hand for disposal.
  7. Oh dear for all the there, they're, and theirs.....those bug me most. That said, I'm not perfect so you may need to poke fun at me from time to time, lol.

    January 2013 Post Op

Nope, you're not alone. Been in a bit of a funk the last two days myself. I'm on 8days post-op. Didn't expect the site and smell of other foods to bother me so much, was really hoping to hate sweets after surgery, but it seems like there's nothing I wouldn't eat if able to. Gonna have to make good habits quickly in the next few stages because I don't even want to think about how I'd react to solids right now if I could have them.

    So disappointed!

Were our own worse enemies but don't be so hard on yourselves. Iit's weight you won't see again and ask, if not for the surgery and my hard work-would I have had even this much success? Cheering you both on

    January 2013 Post Op

Totally true. Just do what you can do and it will slowly increase. I'm 8 days out and I still don't get in all the water and protein-I just try to do as much as possible.

    January 2013 Post Op

I agree. Trying really hard, its 4:02pm here and I got in about 30oz of liquid and 28 grams of protein so far. Now that I'm a little further out I'm having a more difficult time remembering water.

    Friday Weigh-In!

Just starting this thread. HW: 271 SW: 233.8 PSW: 239 CW: 228.8 DOS: 1/10/3 Calling it a 5lb loss because I'm not counting the weight added by the fluids and gas from surgery.
  13. I referred to it as my food funeral, and many people go through the same thing. Just remember as yummy as the food is, those extra pounds you gain you will have to fight to take off-not nearly as fun or easy. BTW-the smaller your liver is (the biggest reason for pre-op diets) the easier it is for your Surgeon to safely conduct the surgery.

Did you use a certain brand and what did you add to it, water or milk?

    Telling your kids

I waited until last minute. I didn't want them to stress about it so I downplayed it.

    Fabulous February!

Congrats to you all and feel free to join our January dates (pre-op) and January 2013 (post-op) threads. Many of us follow the group before us as well, it's helpful to see what others have been/go through, how they handle things and sometimes just get additional support.
