Watermelon at that stage might not be a good idea just because of the white seeds you may ingest. But I'm over 2 years out now and I'm absolutely addicted to watermelon. It's pretty much made of water, which is why you were able to eat so much of it. The rest is basically fiber, which is why you spent so much time in the bathroom. It's fantastic for getting you to go if you have bathroom troubles like so many of us do lol

considering going vegetarian, need some advice
pookybear posted a topic in Vegetarian or Vegan Eating
Right now I only eat poultry and tuna for meat. The only reasons I haven't already gone completely vegetarian are that I haven't quite figured out how to get in all my protein without meat, and my boyfriend pretty much eats the same things that I eat and I don't want to force him to go vegetarian (also, he is not a fan of veggies. he will eat some, but not happily). Has anyone dealt with these dilemmas? I know there are plenty of choices for plant-based proteins, but maybe seeing some examples of meals will help ease the anxiety a little. What are some things you make for vegetarian meals? Especially meals that can be made for both of us and I can add meat to his and not mine. The cost of buying double the food (meals for him and meals for me) is also a worry of mine. I was planning to try it out for this week when we went grocery shopping this weekend, but I totally chickened out. I need help lol. -
Any other bakers out there? Have any healthy recipes to share? Have any tips or tricks to turn your favorite recipes into healthier, bariatric-friendly goodness? I went Apple picking yesterday and made a big batch of Apple cinnamon bread and banana bread yesterday. Looking for more recipes. Dinners too! We only eat chicken, tuna or turkey, and get bored of the same recipes.

Thanks, that's a good idea! -
I'm sick and tired of driving a half hour away to go to the specialty nutrition store for Calcium and it's too expensive online. Is there anyone that buys from the pharmacy, Target, etc? What do you get? My nutritionist told me only buy the specialty stuff, but that was 2 years ago. I'm sure over-the-counter calcium has evolved since.

Hi everyone! OK, so I'm sick and tired of driving a half hour away to go to the specialty nutrition store for Calcium and it's too expensive online. Is there anyone that buys from the pharmacy, Target, etc? What do you get? My nutritionist had told me only buy the specialty stuff, but that was 2 years ago. I'm sure over-the-counter calcium has evolved since. They sell Calcium Citrate everywhere I go, I don't really see why I can't use that. I just wanted to get some other opinions before I buy.

Thank you! I feel like I'm paying extra for nothing.

i had my gallbladder out on 10/1. Since then I've had a LOT of issues with gas. Not burping. Anyone have suggestions on what I can take on a daily basis to keep it under control? I don't want to have to take a pill with every meal because I can't seem to find any particular culprit that is causing it.

Thanks, I'll try those! -
For those of you that take stool softener, how often do you take them? Only as needed? Two or three times a week or every day?

Greasy foods are such a bad thing for me......
pookybear replied to pik's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm the same way. I've gotten sick so many times from greasy foods that it makes me nauseous just looking at the stuff now. -
Recovery..... do you really need someone the first few weeks?
pookybear replied to bluedreams86's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't need any help. If you have small children, though, you may need help because there's no lifting or heavy cleaning. -
Maybe change it up a bit and use Quinoa instead of pasta? It'll be like chicken & rice soup but healthier.

So last month I had some awful pain (I posted about it at that time to get feedback). Since then I've had a few instances of minor cramping/aching on my right side under my rib cage. I called the surgeons office yesterday because I knew they'd want to schedule a test. I already have my 18 month follow up scheduled for next Friday and didn't want to have to go in a second time for test results. So I went for an ultrasound this morning. They called this afternoon to tell me I have gall stones. They wanted to move up my appointment so I could be evaluated, but I told them to leave my appointment as is for now. She said if I have another attack (severe pain, not minor. I asked) I have to go to the ER right away and most likely have surgery. I'm kinda nervous. I've heard gallbladder surgery is really painful, and I can't afford to be out of work.
-
I ended up in the ER Saturday night from the attack. They did a cat scan and blood work and they admitted me. No stones stuck or blockages, thank goodness. But my gallbladder is elevating my liver enzymes which is preventing that from fully functioning the way it should be. They gave me the option of staying in the hospital and having it out today, or going home with pain meds and nausea meds and waiting til Wednesday. I opted to wait til Wednesday since I've already arranged for the time off. They wouldn't have let me leave if I wasn't already scheduled so soon for surgery.
-
Uh having another attack now. It's so painful. I am scheduled for surgery Wednesday and I really don't want to have it moved up, just because I've already planned for the time out of work and stuff. I can make it to Wednesday. I think.
-
Surgery scheduled for 10/1. I'm hoping to take a few days off and then work from home for a couple weeks.
-
Yup, it has to come out. What's it like after? Diet changes immediately post op? How long to resume normal activities? Sex? The Dr asked me if I had any questions and I couldn't think of any until after.

Does anyone have a problem with beef?
pookybear replied to pik's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I do, I eventually gave up red meat completely. No beef or pork. I eat only chicken, turkey, or tuna. -
Yeah, I DON'T want to go through that. I'm almost kind of hoping they do schedule surgery to take it out.

This Friday I have my 18 month follow up and they want to do an evaluation on my gallbladder as well. Anyone know what this entails? I already had an ultrasound done.

I always use applesauce instead of oil as well and I use raw cane sugar or honey in place of refined sugar. Still a lot of sugar, but I prefer the more natural stuff
