Since surgery...well, at least for the last 6-8 months...I've had a dryness issue. Anyone else have this? I don't know if it's surgery related or just a coincidence. Nothing else has changed, other than me getting older lol.

Good I'm not alone! I never had this issue before. I start out fine but it goes downhill pretty fast lol. My boyfriend feels bad because he thinks he doesn't do it for me anymore. I feel bad because we have issues sometimes because of it and I feel like it's my fault.

I'd definitely wait until you're on solid foods. Protein bars can be pretty dense.

This is for calories and Fiber only. The main reason is because they use a newer type of fiber that not all labs are equipped to measure. Not sure why your glucose shows higher. Maybe something you should ask the nutritionist about.

I have whole grain tortillas all the time and I am fine with them. Once in awhile I'll have a flour tortilla.

Anyone have one of these done post-op? I'm scheduled for one, and I'm wondering how it's going to effect me. I generally handle sugars fine, but I don't know what my limit is. I'm kinda worried I'll get sick :-/ plus I have to do it in the morning and go into work afterward.

No, so far I've been lucky and haven 't experienced dumping. I try to limit my sugars though, not really interested in finding my limit! With the Glucose test, you have to drink a VERY sugary drink and you have to drink it all in 5 minutes. I'm really nervous that consuming that much sugar in such a short time will put me over my limit. And I don't want to be physically sick while having blood drawn. A friend of mine had the test when she was pregnant and she said she got light-headed because of all the sugar. -
The thing with carbs is that sugar and fiber are listed under carbs as well. You WANT more fiber. If you subtract the fiber and sugar content from total carbs, that will give you the net carbs...which is what should be limited. For instance, an Apple Pie Quest bar has 24 carbs. 18 of that is fiber, so there's really only 6 net carbs in one bar.

Quest bars are definitely the 'cleanest' bars I've found.

I would suggest checking with the dr before drinking right before you eat. Most surgeons recommend not drinking 30 minutes prior to eating.

400 calories is definitely not enough. 600-800 sounds about right. If you're losing more weight by increasing calories, then you definitely weren't getting enough. I was able to eat salad starting at 8 weeks. I'm just over a year out and can eat up to 1 1/2 cups of food, depending how dense it is. With salad I can eat even more than that sometimes, since it basically chews down to liquid. I've never had a problem with salad in general. I do get slight burning sometimes with tomatoes or cucumbers, but I think that's just because they're naturally acidic.

I've felt 'hunger' since just a few months post op. It feels different than it did pre-op but I think I've just come to recognize that feeling as the 'new hunger'. I don't get a rumbling stomach, I get kind of an empty feeling and sometimes a little soreness in my belly. Kind of similar to a motion sickness feeling, or like someone pinched my insides lol. I try not to go too long without eating. I usually have 3 meals and 2 small snacks a day. In between I use liquids.

I use Body Fortress vanilla protein powder. It has 30 grams of protein in one scoop. I add it to a plain black iced coffee. It sweetens and lightens it like a French vanilla iced coffee.

Year out what do you eat on daily basis?

I'm a year out, about 50 lbs from my goal. Weekends are pretty spontaneous and I kinda just go with the flow. Monday-Friday are my routine days. I eat a Quest bar for breakfast, Greek yogurt (sometimes with PB2 mixed in) and a string cheese for snacks, salad with grilled chicken or tuna for lunch. Dinner is usually a reduced fat, whole grain, cheese quesadilla with salsa and low fat sour cream, or a Smart Ones meal, or a turkey and cheese wrap. I still have carbs, but I try to have whole grains and I limit how much. I also try to avoid red meats. Sometimes I have some popcorn as a snack. I also have one protein drink every day. I try to keep my calories at 1000-1200. -
Question about vitamins

The only ones I pay more for are the calcium. I get them from a local nutrition store. I take 3 chewables a day and the brand is Celebrate. The rest I get at Target/Walmart. I get generic Flintstones complete (has the iron already in it), Vitamin D3 capsules, and sublingual B12. -
How fast did you go through sizes?

I was down about 100 at 6 months. I just hit one year and I'm down about 130. I started at a size 32. At 4 months I was in a 26. Right now I wear anything from 18-22 depending on the brand. -

Careful using it in hot liquids. Protein starts to break down at 140 degrees. If you're putting it in hot liquids just make sure it's not too hot. -
I take 3 calciums, 2 flintstones, 1 B12, 1 D3, 1 cranberry, and 1 green tea extract every day. Sounds like a lot, but I have timers set on my work computer to go off when it's time to take one, so it doesn't interfere with anything. Actually, I only take my vitamins Monday-Friday. Almost never on weekends. My levels have always been on target. The cranberry and green tea extract are extras I've added, not required by doctors.

For 6 weeks out it sounds like you're eating fairly normal. At 6 weeks I was in stage 4 (they may be numbered differently than yours) which is soft foods that can be chewed mushy enough to the consistency of applesauce.. Tuna, eggs, moist turkey...all normal at this stage. Personally, I don't count the number of chews. I just keep chewing to the correct texture. As long as you're getting in your vitamins, protein, liquids, and some foods or broths, you should be fine. If you feel anything is not progressing as it should, definitely talk to your dr or nutritionist. That's what they're there for. -
Yep! My nutritionist actually said that caffeine is acidic. However, I found this online: Taken from healthy.net... The Acidity of Coffee Irritates the Stomach Coffee is highly acidic and it can stimulate the hypersecretion of gastric acids. Decaffeinated coffee has been shown to increase acidity to a greater degree than either regular coffee or caffeine alone. Both caffeine and coffee stimulate gastric acid secretion and decaffeinated coffee raises serum gastrin levels. A study comparing the ability of decaffeinated coffee with that of a high Protein meal to increase gastric acid secretion and gastrin levels found that decaffeinated coffee was a more powerful stimulant of acid secretion and gastrin release than the high protein. Coffee tends to speed up the process of gastric emptying, which may result in highly acidic stomach contents passing into the small intestine more rapidly than normal. This may lead to injury of the intestinal tissue. There is a clear relationship between reduction of stomach acid and heartburn relief.
