Still a bit groggy. Stomach hurts, been pushing the button and it's definitely tolerable, but uncomfortable. Back really hurts too.

regular food got me worried
pookybear replied to annav562's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not at all! Not eating enough will make you gain weight. You need to eat regular foods, but the right ones. I know it sounds crazy but if you don't eat enough your body will go into starvation mode and start reserving fat to life off of, instead of burning. Don't worry, you'll do great! -

Well this is it I guess. Finally! I am so hungry and I think I may beat up the nurse for her coffee LOL

Thanks for all the good wishes. Surgeon said everything went great! I'm doing good with walking and breathing tests. I cannot WAIT until I can have some water! -
Making my packing list for tomorrow night. Any suggestions on what I should/shouldn't pack?

This may sound like a dumb question, but do you wear a bra at the hospital?? Or should I bring a sports bra?
-

Just wondering...every time I've visited someone at the hospital they've complained they were cold, and the hospital blankets are so thin. Would it be a good idea to bring a blanket?

Thanks!

The stuff they have you buy to wash with before surgery? Also what's the stuff called that you drink to....clean you out?

All in one vitamins
pookybear replied to Sheddingtummy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told by the nutritionist not to take the all-in-one stuff. You have to take the calcium and iron separately and at least 2 hours apart. Calcium blocks the absorption of iron. They're probably fine as long as you're taking iron supplements. -
Thanks lol I found the magnesium citrate. I got a soap, not sure if its the same one they said to get but it'll do.

I had cancelled my gym membership mix January because with my odd work schedule I was never able to go. Well, wouldn't you know that 2 weeks later they changed my schedule. So now I'm on normal hours, 9-6. I signed back up the other day. But how long after surgery should I wait before I start going to the gym? I know at first I'll only be able to do the treadmill and maybe the elliptical. I'll definitely wait awhile before I start pounding weights LOL. But is 2-3 weeks post op a pretty safe time frame?

I'm trying so hard to eat as little as I can so I lose as much as possible before surgery. It's driving me insane being hungry all the time! I am eating, I have a Protein shake for Breakfast and eat lightly for lunch and dinner but surgery isn't until 2/27 and I don't know if I can make it. I know realistically it isn't true, but I feel like I'm going to be hungry forever. UGHHHH

Apparently my mom was under the impression that I'd be staying with her after surgery. I never even discussed it with her, so it's not like we had planned that. But I had to tell her that I'm going to be staying at my boyfriends house. She said that's fine as long as someone is taking care of me. I don't buy it. I know my mom and I think the fact that I'm not staying with her hurt her feelings. I have several good reasons why I don't want to stay with her. She has a lot of health problems and I feel like I'd be taking care of her more than she'd be taking care of me. Also, my bf lives 2 minutes away from the surgeons office and the hospital, whereas mom lives 20-30 minutes from either one. Third, she just got into her own apartment (taking her quite awhile to get on her feet after we lost my step-dad) and she doesn't have a second bedroom or even a couch. She wants me to sleep in her bed and she would sleep on an air mattress on the floor. No way, I'm not having that. She has problems with her knee and legs and back. I really feel it's best to stay with the bf, I just feel like an ass for not staying with my mom

Are baby foods good for after surgery? If you've tried any, which ones are good and which are not?

Where is everyone from?
pookybear replied to AmandaD's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
From Massachusetts. Having mine on 2/27 at Tobey Hospital in Wareham. Ps, we're buried in snow here and been without power or heat since Friday night. Brrrrrr -

pookybear replied to Marisela's topic in Food and Nutrition
Haven tried them yet but I'm hoping they're good! Just bought a box of soups for early post-op. -
Hypothyroidism and Gastric Bypass
pookybear replied to laughingheels's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also have hypothyroidism. I had it mostly when I was a kid, but as an adult I had been tested many times and was always told my levels were fine, while not on medication. Now when I went for my preop labs they said my levels were slightly high, so I'm hoping it won't effect my weight loss too much. -
writing a personal letter to the insurance company
pookybear replied to nursemissy's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I've never even heard of this.....but I would assume you should write about what would be beneficial to them. You'd be healthier, so less doctor and prescription costs. -
It does have calcium as well.

Skim milk is great as long as you can tolerate it. It has the protein and no fat. Not everyone can tolerate the lactose. I'm kinda lactose intolerant already and I'm preop so I'm expecting to not be able to drink milk at all. There's also almond milk and it's absolutely delicious in protein shakes!
