I always use applesauce instead of oil now. Doesn't change the taste but I swear it makes it more moist, and really cuts the fat!

I've never seen coconut flour

I've been trying to alter recipes. I use white whole wheat flour instead of all-purpose (with just a touch more leavening to lighten it up), no-sugar-added applesauce instead of oil, and sometimes honey in place of sugar.
-
Banana Bread 2 ¼ cups white whole wheat flour ¾ tsp. baking soda ¼ tsp. salt ¼ cup plain nonfat yogurt ¼ cup honey 1 tsp. vanilla 2 eggs 1/3 cup oil 3 mashed overripe bananas 1. Preheat oven to 350. Lightly grease a 9x5 loaf pan. 2. Whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt. 3. In a separate bowl mix bananas with yogurt, honey, eggs, oil, and vanilla. 4. Fold the banana mixture into the flour mixture until blended. Do not over mix. 5. Pour batter into prepared pan. 6. Bake for 45-50 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean from the center.

This one I have yet to figure out how to make it healthier, other than switching to white whole wheat flour. I'll gladly take suggestions. Apple Cinnamon Bread 1/3 cup brown sugar (not packed) 1 tsp ground cinnamon 2/3 cup raw cane sugar ½ cup butter or other spread, softened 2 eggs 1 ½ tsp vanilla extract 1 ½ cups white whole wheat flour 2 tsp baking powder ½ cup milk 1 apple, peeled and chopped 1. Preheat oven to 350. Grease and flour a 9x5 loaf pan. 2. Mix brown sugar and cinnamon together in a bowl and set aside. Beat white sugar and butter together in a bowl using an electric mixer until smooth and creamy. Beat in eggs, one at a time, until incorporated; add vanilla extract. 3. Combine flour and baking powder together in another bowl; stir into creamed butter mixture. Mix milk into batter until smooth. Pour half the batter into the prepared loaf pan. 4. Add half the apples and half the brown sugar cinnamon mixture. Lightly pat apple mixture into batter. 5. Pour the remaining batter over apple layer; top with remaining apples and add more brown sugar/cinnamon mixture. Lightly pat apples into batter; swirl brown sugar mixture through apples using a finger or spoon. 6. Bake until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean; 30-40 minutes.

Does everyone have a drain after surgery?

No drain for me. -
Best brand of RTD Protein drinks?

Atkins shakes were recommended by my nutritionist and taste pretty good. -
Really? Thanks! When I was in the hospital from RNY my roommate had GB surgery and was wailing and crying all hours of the night. Scared the bejeezes out of me!
-
My Dr said it can't be used at all after surgery due to absorption issues. It's just not reliable enough.

I love Nuva Ring. Works really well for me and only have to remember it once a month.

Let's see some before and afters people! And some stats!

Here's me 4 days post op and one year later. I'm at a year and a half now. Approx. 160 lbs loss. Started the process at 419, was at 399 on the day of surgery, and now I'm at around 255-260. Not skinny by any means, and I'm fine with that! I'd like to get at least below 250, but even if I stay where I am now I'm happy -
Nuva Ring. love it!

I highly recommend checking out websites and nutritional information ahead of time, and make a list of things at each place that you are comfortable with eating. Makes it a LOT easier to have your own little personalized menu. Less confusion and less temptation to order bad stuff.

I've had an egg and cheese wake up wrap or a chicken salad wrap with no bacon from Dunkin a few times. My splurge has been a mashed potato bowl from KFC. I've had this maybe 3 or 4 times since surgery and can only eat some of it. It's bad, though, I don't recommend it often.

I remember when I was 3 (yes, I remember that far back) I was extremely close to my grandfather. Then he was in a fire and was in the hospital. We went to visit him and I wouldn't go near him. I didn't feel abandoned, I was scared. He was hurt and that was really scary to me. I'm not sure if I was afraid to touch him and hurt him, but I remember feeling like the grandfather I knew wasn't hurt, it didn't feel like it was him. Kids that young don't necessarily realize Mommy is the same Mommy, just with a boo boo. To them, Mommy is invincible. Just something to consider. They pick up on emotions and pain very easily. I'm sure he senses you're 'different' right now and it's scary to him. He should get more back to normal as you do.

Keep in mind that on a nutrition label, carbs includes fiber. You have to subtract fiber and sugar from the carb total, and that gives you the simple carbs, which is what you want to limit. You want the fiber to be high.

I have this every morning for breakfast. Strawberries, banana, spinach, chia seeds and water.

My shoe size stayed the same. I still wear all the same shoes. They fit a little better, though.

Quest bars are really good!

I've had Wendy's Chili many times. It's actually pretty healthy. Haven't had it since I gave up red meat, though. I've also had Subway a few times, though I don't really consider them fast food. I have had a biscuit or some of a mashed potato bowl twice since surgery. An indulgence once in awhile is ok in my opinion, as long as it isn't a regular thing.

Found this online, it explains it better than I could: "The main form of calcium supplements are calcium carbonate or calcium citrate. Both are well-absorbed by gastric bypass patients, although those with decreased stomach acid will absorb calcium citrate more comfortably. Calcium combined with citrate is the top quality compound for maximum absorption of calcium."

Good old Flintstones Complete are what my nutritionist recommended

The good thing about Starbucks is that everything is customizable. Download their app. You can play around with recipes and customize everything to your nutritional needs. Then it tells you how to order it to get it how you want. It's awesome. I love Starbucks.

is it weird or should I be greatful?
pookybear replied to ChristyAZ's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Same here. I don't dump at all. I only get sick if I don't chew enough or eat too much, or if I have anything greasy/oily. Also, I've found that I really can't tolerate beef or much pork. So I've cut out all meat except for chicken, turkey, and tuna. Keep in mind that you're insides are still numb from surgery. Eventually, as you try more things, you'll find things you can't tolerate as well. For now, be glad it's going so well. Just don't push it too much! At 8 days I wasn't even on soft foods yet :-/
