PROTEIN HELP PLEASE!
pookybear replied to drobinson1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah I haven't had any issues with sugar since the beginning. My surgery was 2/27/13. My nutritionist recommended regular saltines during the soft stage, and chew til mushy. -
PROTEIN HELP PLEASE!

I don't really worry about it, but I don't really like the taste of chemical sugar stuff. I use regular sugar and I don't usually go for sugar free stuff. I just watch how much I have. Once in awhile I'll have something with fake sugar. Like my protein powder has it, and I have one scoop a day. But that's pretty much it. -

There's only one place around here that carries PB2 and it's expensive. I usually just buy Skippy reduced fat peanut spread. -

hummus is good on non-fibrous crackers (the kind that turn to mush when chewed). I often make turkey and cheese rolled up with hummus, but that is more for the solid food stage. -
That's a question best answered by your nutritionist. I was told to go with chewable. Not sure if the liquid contains everything we need.

What condements do you use?

Same here. I do use light or fat free salad dressings and light mayo, though. -

I can't eat real butter. All I taste is grease and it tastes disgusting to me. I use Smart Balance spread usually, or plain margarine in small amounts. -

My doc requires 60-80 of protein per day. Tuna or canned chicken mixed with light mayo is good in the soft stage. -
Body Fortress Super Advanced Whey Protein...yea or nay? It's in my budget and tastes better in my opinion. Just not sure if there's anything 'bad' in it. I've been using it for a few weeks.

I'd start with half a scoop. You don't want to add so much that it gets clumpy. You can make frozen coffee too...cold black coffee, ice, and a scoop of protein powder all in the blender. Delicious, especially in the summer!

Yeah he's sweet

I go there quite often. That's where I get my calcium.

Post op protein.

It's actually been proven that coffee does not dehydrate you, especially if you're getting in enough daily liquids. I'd stick to your own surgeons recommendations, though. -

My surgeon allows coffee. I'm 11 months out. I had to stick to decaf for the first 3 months, because the acidity of caffeine will irritate the healing pouch. But after that regular was fine. I drink 1 or 2 cups daily. -

I've been using the Body Fortress Whey Protein from Walmart, and I also eat one Quest bar a day. I'm so glad I got the sample pack of the Syntrax flavors because they were disgusting to me! Even the unflavored one has a gross flavor to me. I like the Body Fortress or Atkins pre made shakes. I usually add them to black iced coffee. -
Don't have a nutritionist, that's why I'm posting the ingredients on here, in case someone is knowledgable on what is filler and what isn't.

What to bring to the hospital
pookybear replied to blueyz80's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The only things I used was clothes, cell charger, pads, and crossword puzzles. I didn't even use the Chapstick. -
The vanilla is really good added to black iced coffee!

Thank you!

I unfortunately don't have a nutritionist.

Chicken is actually a safe food for me. I have issues with beef. -

Another thing....sometimes not being 'normal' can get a bit overwhelming, especially when you're around people that are eating all the things YOU want. When I have one of these days, I throw the rules out the window (within reason) and have whatever I want. These days don't come often, but they do come. -
lettuce and olives for me. Love cucumbers but they have to be peeled and I prefer no seeds. Tomatoes sometimes make me slightly uncomfortable.

Fabulous February Post-Op's

1. The hunger feeling doesn't always go away, it's just a different feeling. Don't count on not feeling hunger. Some people don't, and that's awesome. But you might. I do. 2. The hardest thing for me is my eyes are bigger than my stomach. I almost always think I can eat more than I can. I usually just eat until I feel full, but I wish I had actually measured everything for the first months so I could get used to seeing how much I should eat. 3. I wish I would've worked out more. I have worked out, but not as much as I should. I've done great with weight loss, but I could've done even better if I had stepped it up. 4. I thought I'd feel different after losing so much. Don't get me wrong, I feel great. More energy, less pain. But psychologically I don't feel different. I think I always saw myself in my mind as a lot smaller than I saw myself physically, if that makes sense. Now, I feel like the picture in my head matches the mirror. -
