I have heard the pouch can stretch up to, I believe it was 9oz. General pouch size eventually between 5 and 9oz. I get dry mouth. Can drink and as a matter of fact I became mildly dehydrated drinking 60oz a day. Due to the change, my body wasnt proccessing liquids as it should. i believe that is all worked out now. I had to drink 80-90oz to build back up. It was so mild didn't need IV. I just got a headache and skin was drying. Just remember the pouch doesn't really hold liquids. The pouch is like a funnel that is why we can't drink 30 minutes after meals. I believe liquids stay no longer than 5 mins before its down and out of pouch. Very little harm in stretching on the liquid stage due to the amount of time and ease of liquids to pass thru. Like mentioned before every one us different. In amount they drink and weight loss. My Dr said Water before Protein while on the liquid diet stage. You need to stay dehydrated. My Dr said to stay away from acidic foods, drinks the first two weeks for healing. Acidic foods may also cause reflux and esophageal, pouch irritation. I can only use 1/2 packet of the sugarless single water additives such as crystal light, Kool aid, etc. Lotion up to help retain moisture! Even though you may not sweat, your body still releases water thru the skin. Applying lotion will help retain some moisture to help fight dehydration and soften your skin There is a supplement called papaya enzyme. If you haven't read it on another thread, it is supposed to help with the blockage of food if you swallow something too big. It helps digest the stuck food faster to ease pain quicker. The liquid diet is tough, but you guys can do this. For those that I read doesn't have a pre op diet, are you having laparoscopic surgery or open? The reason for the liquid diet before is so the liver will shrink some so the surgeon can easily work around it. If your surgeons don't have preop diets, it just might be one of their thing and hopefully have full success rate of not accidentally nicking the liver. So trust your surgeon and his abilities, that is why you chose him or her (or insurance did) and your insurance is allowing him or her to perform the surgery :-) Gen :-) 12/15/12

My surgeons office took care of everything and then called me with a date :-) I had already been pre approved, lol I guess you can say, when I started my 6 month nutrition weigh in's and such. The final ok was just for the hospital stay approval. Got that in 2 days after Dr submitted all testing and paperwork to my insurance. Gen :-) 12/15/12

When drinking the sugar free packets in my water i can only use 1/2 a package. More than that is too much and I don't feel well. I had hiatal hernia as well before surgery, bad reflux, but Dr said that the Hiatal hernia is always fixed by this surgery. I haven't had to take my reflux med since. If I use full packets of the drink mix, I probably would have too. Gen :-)

Still not losing weight. Gained 5 pounds while I was getting dehydrated. Dr said it was my body trying to retain what fluids it could. Then lost 2 after not being dehydrated anymore. Weighed this morning to find out I've gained the two back, stopped weighing everyday cuz it's just so disappointing. I'm about ready to throw the scale out the window. i walk about 40 minutes each day and just don't know wth is going on. I'm getting fluids and protein. Any ideas or similar experiences? Gen :-)
