Just remember that you've done amazingly well so far. Be VERY proud of that. It can be discouraging but we need to get in the frame of mind that we will have stalls, just like everyone else. However we have been given this wonderful tool that if used properly will help us break that stall and continue to lose a little faster than if we didn't have the surgery. Gen :-) 12/15/12

At least you are having that occur. Do you think a mans pouch would be a little bigger than a woman's due to men needing more calories? I never thought of it before and it was just a thought that popped into my head. Maybe someone can chime in on that question!!! Gen :-) 12/15/12

Hopefully this is one of those cases, where each person is different. I personally, definitely know if I've eaten just a little too much. The pain is ridiculous and that's if I don't get sick. I would give your nut or Surgeons nurse a call just to talk to them regarding your thoughts/fears. Gen :-) 12/15/12

You have gotta think that the 45lbs you lost was within just over a month, that is enormous. Congrats. But your body does need some recovery time after that amount in such a short time. We will have stalls, unfortunately. Plus as stated earlier. You might be losing in your measurements but not on the scale. Please don't compare yourself cuz everyone is different. It took me 3 months to lose 56 lbs. so you've done great. Plus weigh yourself at the same time and w the same clothes (or no clothes) on. One time when I met w my nutrition she said I was drinking to much water, 4 bottles. She told me to cut it back a bottle and that is when I started losing a little bit more, not a lot, but some. So just remember too much water will help you retain as well. Gen :-) 12/15/12

You might want to check w your surgeon. You might have a stricture, which is an area where it either closes or starts to close. Which might be why you can't eat or drink anything. Gen :-) 12/15/12

    Protein help again

I have used vanilla or chocolate Protein shake mix in oatmeal or cream of wheat. It was ok. Of course I didn't use an entire scoop, just about 1/4 or add by your taste what you can handle. Just remember, protein is destroyed over 140 degrees so make sure your food is under that temp. Gen :-) 12/15/12

Not sure of the different articles that commented on the shampoos w biotin are true. However, I read a couple articles that stated that the biotin has to be ingested to work. In shampoo form, it doesn't help. For those of you using the shampoo and conditioner only, not the Biotin supplement, will you please let me know how you like it. If you believe it makes a difference. Gen :-) 12/15/12

School is quite a task plus when you work as well. I can see how hard it would be to have to worry about what to pack to eat or what to eat period. I've always flown (most of the time) by the seat of my pants when it came to what to have for dinner, lunch. I still have a hard time planning that. Congrats you two for school and work (whether you work inside or outside your home) and trying your best to maintain our new lifestyle. It's not easy. Gen :-) 12/15/12

    Protein help again

Heating Protein over 140 degrees will ruin the protein. Cook your soup, make sure it cools below 140, then add you protein :-) Gen :-) 12/15/12

I had a meeting w my nutritionist today. I am just having a difficult time w meats. She said that's ok and cuz I like beans she gave me some recipes. I have lost 53lbs with just 1 week shy of my 3 month Surgiversary. She calculated it and told me w where I started on surgery day, my loss has been slightly higher than the norm, yippee. That made me happy. At first I was a slow loser, but now it has sped up. She reinforced the fact that tracking your meals to make sure you're covering your protein is extremely important. If you don't get all of the protein, you will stall out. My meals have been consisting of breakfast (1 cup Special K Plus Protein, 1/2 cup milk = 17g protein) then my first drink is a protein shake, currently Nectars Fuzzy Navel. For lunch I eat a cheese stick, and fruit. I then have a banana as a snack because I did have low potassium, but not now. Still eating a banana a day though. For dinner, I might eat some chicken if I can handle it. If not, protein shake and fruit or veggies. Nut also told me to eat nuts (almonds, walnuts, etc for protein.) That I can do :-) I think my longest stall has been 3 days within these 3 months. I won't touch bread, pasta, potatoes, or other processed foods especially if they are high in carbs. A wrap for a sandwich is the only thing I'll eat or tortilla shell for a quesadilla. I had an awesome chicken n cheese quesadilla over the weekend. Sorry this post is long but I wanted to let those struggling w loss know what my Nut said as well as an example of a day in my life with food. Track, track, track!!! Make sure you get at a minimum 60g protein or what your Dr suggested. Remember 3-6 months is hair loss time after this surgery. Take Biotin, I take 10,000mcg a day. Get your protein and you have better chances at saving your hair. My Dr's motto is "those people that track the food intake, are the most successful w losing and keeping the weight off." By the way, my nut also told me she has individuals that are 5 years out that still drinks at least 1 shake. Mainly cuz the were never a breakfast eater. She said it makes our life easier if we can get all protein by food, but she said as long as you get all the protein for the day that is what matters, health wise. So it is ok if I do the shakes as long as I need too. Gen :-) 12/15/12
