    Hours away!

Wow! I don't know that I would be able to sleep... I guess my only advice would be to pack the Chapstick. It's the one thing my Mom said she wishes she had.

    Where is everyone from?

I'm from Central NY and going to Cooperstown-- I'm close-ish!

    Preop 4cdays to go!

I don't have any personal experiences to share, but 2 women in a support group I attend made the switch and couldn't be happier. One woman had surgery last April and as of Dec was 60 lbs down!! Are you getting a lot of education? That has been almost like therapy for me! You'll have to let us know how the progress is coming along.

    Finally.... A Date!

Congrats! Your surgery is right around the corner! My program doesn't have a formal pre op diet, just liquids a few days before. I did have to lose 5% of my weight and have been required to keep it off. I didn't want to go crazy with having to switch to liquids, so I have been in slimfast to get acclimated to drinking my meals, but like I said that's my choice not my surgeons... What about you??

    trouble in paradise

I actually came across a troubling article not too long ago on divorce rates if WLS patients... My bf was acting out at the beginning, but after countless nights sitting up talking, going through old pictures, and all that sappy stuff we decided to make a go at this together. He and I both exercise and are eating much better. I have to constantly reassure him on our relationship because he is insecure sometimes too. Keep the lines of communication open, but certainly don't let him derail your success. This is going to be an emotional roller coaster, and I hope he hops on board with you!
  6. I love unjury, just make sure your soup is under 130 degrees or the Protein will actually cook (aka clump) and that's no fun at all! I am on Slimfast until my surgery--my choice not the surgeons-- and my go-to snack is V-8 fusion light blended with ice and unflavored unjury. I have a bunch of recommended meals- most of them are liquid- that my program gave me. Feel free to PM me if you would like some

Maybe not keeping it a secret?

Honestly, I don't care if people know I'm having surgery. I know I'm in the minority here (or so it seems). I look at it as a necessary surgery. I wouldn't be ashamed to treat a broken arm, or wear glasses and I'm treating my weight the same way. People make snarky comments on my weight now, I have had some resistance and negativity about the surgery, so I'm damned if I do, damned if I don't. After all these years I fail to see how my weight issues offend people, or why my choice to address the issues would offend them either. I mean, I'm not wearing a T Shirt proclaiming my choice everywhere I go or anything, but I don't care if people know or not.
  8. I'm hearing that a lot of people are quite hush hush about people knowing that they are having surgery. I don't mind telling my friends and family at all. My Mom had surgery 2 years ago and didn't tell anyone-- including me-- until like 2 weeks after surgery. I don't mind telling people because I feel it opens a line of communication and gives me the opportunity to address misconceptions about it. Don't get me wrong, I'm not wearing a neon sign and singing from the hilltops, but people who have been supporting me on my weight loss journey all know. Are you telling people, or reserving it as a personal, private decision?

    Workin away

I went shopping with my Mom yesterday, and mentioned to her how I have lost 25 lbs ( started 297, at 274 now) and it sucks that I am still the same size clothes. She made me pick up a 25 lb bag of dog food, and everything came into perspective. I think that gave me the extra morale boost I needed! Just thought I'd share

    hi all new here...

My program has a fast track program, but its still longer than most other programs regular programs... It's because I have no co-morbidities. I am really healthy, just way too big!

    going out 2 eat

My program gives us a card that explains our pouches only hold about 8 oz, and asks for permission for us to order off the kids menu or seniors menu. I use it even though I haven't had surgery yet, and every restaurant has let me order what I want

    Psych Eval :/

Mine was a 2 hour session with a tiny mean European lady. I felt like I was in trouble! Lol

little more confidence in my decision

Struggling with old habits is is human thing, not a lap band thing. We will all go through that. Having said that, bypass patients typically do have more long term success than band patients!

    No Diet! =D

Did you check with the program you're in? My insurance doesn't require one, but my program requires candidates to lose 5% of my body weight and maintain it until surgery ( I met the weight goal in Nov and still don't have a surgery date)

    hi all new here...

Timeframes vary wildly. I am more than 6 mos in a still without a date and I am on their "fast track" program. I am part of a super strict program with incredibly high success rates, low complication rates, and 0 deaths. It all depends on your program. Regardless of how long it is, it will feel too long! Lol

    Real Recipes

The info I have says purée anything. It's better to get foods rich in protein, but you also need to get your veggies and milk. Send me a pm if you'd like me to share the info from my dietician

    New year, new me!

You lucky duck, you! I'm so excited for you. It would be amazing if you got in within the 3 month timeframe. Hopefully I will be having surgery in Feb or March- the scheduler is out until next week, and my surgeon is on vacation until mid-Feb... We might go in around the same time!

Worst comment you've heard so far

I feel like I'm reading my own thoughts here... My sisters are 5'11" and about 140 lbs. my sisters think I'm cheating by having surgery, and have even said its to be thin for my wedding. I always just tell them that they are just upset that now I will not only be the pretty one and the smart one, but I'm going to be the svelt one too! I wish I actually was as confident as I come across to them :/. I'm right there with you!
