Hey all! I'm from Southern MN and will be having RNY on 12-21-12 by Dr Jones in St Louis Park. I start my pre op liquid diet in a couple weeks and I am getting nervous! I am so ready to be healthy though. Any other southern MN people here?

I went to the December boards, and it was a bunch of nonsense. Just one post with a ton of letters and numbers. Is it a closed group that I need special permission to access? -
Ready, Set, Go! Surgery Date 1/7/13- Still Preparing...
AmandaM replied to BrnButrfly2013's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Make sure you have good distractions for the hospital, such as a book, etc. I have been starting to prepare for surgery as well. Mine is in about 4 weeks. I know people say not to stock up on a lot. But I know I need Vitamins and clear fluids and a lot of them. So I am going to bargain shop for my vitamins. We will need them forever, so there's no harm in getting a healthy supply started. Make sure you've got either bottled Water or a reusable water container with ounces marked, so you know how much you're drinking. sugar free popsicles and Jello, etc. For kitchen stuff, make sure you have measuring cups, a food scale, a food processor/blender, a Blender Bottle if you will be drinking Protein on the go or want more convenience, and maybe the small snack size tupperware containers to store meal servings. Good luck! -
Post Op Depression
AmandaM replied to musicalwonder's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can't say it will go away. I'm pre op, so I can't even speak from experience. But all the research I've done and questions I've asked my doctors lead to the same thing...depression post op is VERY common. Our fat cells store a lot of hormones. So as we burn fat, all those hormones will be released. That's why some people experience a euphoric feeling the first few weeks post op, and the larger majority experiences some depression. You are doing great by seeking help and managing it with medications. Allow a month to see improvements from the meds. It can be a long wait, but most meds do take at least 4 weeks for any results. If you are seeing no improvement or are feeling worse after a month, try a different medication. Make sure to follow the guidelines for weaning on and off anti depressants and sleep aids though! Hang in there. It will get better! -

Thanks! I frequently visit obesityhelp.com too. I like this though since it is a mobile app. It makes it much easier for me to navigate on my smart phone. Although, I can't figure out how to do anything with my profile, like change my avatar. Lol -
Hi! I am brand new and am about an hour south of the metro area in MN. My surgery is December 21!
