Alright guys, we started talking about juicing in a few different forums the past couple days and I said I'd go ahead and make a thread just for juicing for anyone who is interested or had questions, wants recipes, curious about the benefits etc, I'm here to answer them! And anyone else of course who wants to put in their two cents I'll start off with how I got started. I have always been a foodie, and I've been a chef for about 4 years, and I've always been interested in nutrients but I never delved into it. After my surgery 11/5/12, I struggled with the idea of a balanced diet with so many limitations we have now. I wanted to do some research! I wasn't working at the time and school hadn't started yet, so my days turned into information finding adventures!! I watched documentary after documentary, read medical journal after medical journal, trying to figure out what the experts had to say as far as nutrients and a healthy diet. There was a lot, but I stumbled onto juicing and and an organic whole foods plant based diet. With these two things I found the most positive things and so I went with it! I started slow and cheap with the juicing, but 3 days into adding juice to my diet, I was hooked! I found more and more recipes, tips, and Vitamin information, and now, simply because of how amazing I feel, if it doesn't help me get to my nutritional goal for the day, I don't put it in my mouth! Minus a treat every now and then of course Anyway, that's my story!

peanut butter

I wouldn't try peanut butter for about a month, it's hard to digest and being so fresh out of surgery, it would put a lot of strain on fresh incisions -

We aren't made to digest it naturally, just like cows milk ( why there's such a large population o lactose intolerant people) we're the only species on the planet that drinks another animals milk, that's also why soy/rice/almond milks are so much better for us and easier on our digestive system -

My favorite recipe so far is 3 cups kale, 3 1/2 cups broccoli stalks, 7 carrots, 2 cucumbers, 1 mango, 1 lime, 1 lemon, 1 grapefruit, 1 cup strawberries, 1 knot of ginger, 7 celery stalks, and a bundle of cilantro. It makes 3 quarts of juice and the nutrition looks like this -

I get a few recipes online, but honestly, I make up my own most of the time! Learning the nutrients base of every fruit and vegetable had allowed me to decide what sort of juice my body needs! -

I juice every day! Usually in the morning, before I put anything in my mouth (minus an 8 oz glass of water) I juice. I focus a LOT on greens and veggies and citrus fruits. My favorite so far has been kale, celery, cucumber, broccoli stalks, cilantro, parsley, carrots, ginger, strawberries, mango, lime, lemon, and grapefruit. I know it sounds like a lot, and it is! But I made 3 quarts of the stuff and drank two of them today! Even without taking my bariatric Vitamins, juicing had allowed me to maximize my intake of nutrients! For instance, today I got (strictly from juicing, not including my food intake) 429% of my daily Vitamin A, 1739% of my Vitamin C, 156% of my daily Calcium, 240% of my daily Iron, 22 grams of Protein, and 3523mg of my daily potassium. Juicing keeps my bowel movements regular, my energy sky high, my joints painless, and with my stomach being so small, I can still maximize my nutrient intake and never have to worry about being malnourished The juicer I have is a GE I got from Walmart for 50$, there are a lot to choose from, but I started cheap and small because I wasn't sure if I'd like it or not, but in a few months I plan on upgrading to a fancy one if you ever have any questions please feel free to ask, I am so in love with juicing lol -

Mine was 7 days! But if your diet is right, you can actually have multiple bms a day even after surgery, I am almost 3 months out and I juice once a day every day to make sure I get all my daily nutrients, and doing this plus high daily fiber intake or yogurt intake keeps me regular and no feeling of being bloated/constipated or tight. Juicing does absolute wonders for me, I definitely recommend it to everyone. 3 months out, 60 pounds down, and I couldn't be more ecstatic for the future -

Regretting my choice
Amandabythepound replied to annalobdell79's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a stall for about 3 weeks, I had surgery 11-5 and I thought I was meant to stay at or around 200 pounds for the rest of my life, but I've lost 59 pounds since surgery and t might be slow, but it's worth it!!!! For sure!!!!! Good luck doll!! -
I'm a month and a half out. Just curious if anyone had tried sushi, it was a huge part of my diet before surgery and I can't tell you how bad I miss it, I've been invited out with my friends and boyfriend to go to this awesome sushi place in town, just looking for advice before I do anything that might backfire. I have no problem not eating if its going to hurt me in anyway, but if it won't, maybe a timeline as to when I might be able to eat it again?
