  1. j I have a feeling that the weight loss will get going as we heal more. I'm 6 days post-op and going home today from the hospital. I've been instructed to start my full liquid diet (but to take it easy). I'm just not going to worry about weight loss - I just want to get well and recover from surgery and then focus on the weight loss. I am wishing you the greatest of success.
  2. i am 5 nights and 6 days post op. I'm still on pain medication and have a feeling I will be for quite awhile. Pain is just part of the process. This might sound corny but it works: try to focus on something else. Think about something that makes you happy. Make a list of what there is to be grateful for. These types of activities are helping me distract myself from the pain and soreness that the pain medication is unable to get rid of. I'm sorry that you are feeling pain (and sorry that I am feeling pain). I wish you the greatest of success!
  3. The nurses make a big difference. They work hard. The nurses I have had at the hospital (5-night stay) have been great. Their friendly attitude definitely helped me get better.
  4. I am so sorry that you had to go through cancer. I hope that you have had success.
  5. Nicky, i'm on my fifth night post op and still in the hospital due to excess bleeding from the wound. i must say that the nurses here have been wonderful. this experience would be unbearable for me but for the nurses. i fully agree that this surgery is not for the faint of heart. it requires caregivers with special training who understand the needs of bariatric patients. the hospital gowns are awful. i also look like a zombie when a walk - now even five days post op. i so badly want to get out of the hospital but the surgeon will not release me. maybe tomorrow. wishing you the greatest of success! John
  6. i am still at the hospital - might need a transfusion due to anemia - all depends on another blood draw.

    Pain When Drinking

it hurts for me, too, to drink - i have to drink super slow - definitely keep your doctor informed
  9. I am male and don't cry easily but strangely find myself WANTING to cry. It's a bit weird.
  10. I'm in the hospital for my fourth night - I am writing this from the hospital. I am hoping to be discharged tomorrow. The latest problem is anemia. So they are going to stop the Lovenox shots and see what happens.
  11. I am 4 days post-op. Still in pain. Not able to get all of my fluids down. They are not releasing me from the hospital for observation due to anemia. I have a lot of swelling in my bowels. And my incision is producing a lot of blood (which is I was am moving towards anemia). I still am bloated. I'm feeling some anxiety about getting well but the surgeons and nurses assure me I will be okay and that the extra days in the hospital are truly to make sure I'm okay. I appreciate that they are watching out for me. I sure am ready to get rid of this post-op pain. I will continue sharing my insights. I do not know whether I am losing weight - right now I just want to be well - I'll worry about losing weight when I am back home.

    Pre-Op And Scared

I have found the hardest part post surgery is the bloated feeling from the gas pain. Apart from that the pain has been manageable. The nurses at my hospital have all been wonderful - all are nice, all work hard and all of them ask, "is there anything I can do for you before I leave?" The nurses make such a difference.

    Pre-Op And Scared

I was dreading the catheter but the removal was no big deal. And right after surgery I was grateful for the catheter. The anesthesia made it impossible for me to urinate. The catheter was absolutely essential. I certainly did not enjoy it, but it really wasn't that bad.

    Pre-Op And Scared

Fear is normal. I vomited all the way to the hospital pre-op out of stress before surgery. I am not post-op. It was hard. I'm now spending my 4th night in the hospital. I'm still glad I did it. It is normal to be scared. Even in the pre-op room when my IV was started I told my surgeon and the nurses I was scared. And they assured me it was normal. It helped me a lot to express that fear and it helped me to hear reassurance from my surgeon and the nurses. I wish I could say something to take the fear away. I can only empathize. My sister is a surgical nurse and does surgery every day. And she, also, gets scared if she is the one having surgery. My own PCP had a brain tumor and he was scared before his surgery. It's completely normal. I wishing you the greatest of successes!
  15. i had my surgery this morning. the pain is not as bad as i thought it would be. wishing success to everyone!
  16. Thanks for the insights about the drain. It sounds like a good idea to have one, though info not look forward to it.
  17. I just drank 10 ounces of magnesium citrate and am waiting for it to take effect. Tomorrow is the big surgery day - my first real surgery in my life. I am nervous but going through with it. Reading your posts about post-surgery makes me feel better because it helps me understand what to expect. Did you have to have a surgical drain? How long did you have to wear it?

I will be purchasing the Greenstar Elite (not sure if it is Green Star or Greenstar).
  19. Thank you for the prayers. I will say prayers for you, too. I think that prayers make a difference, though I do not specifically understand how it works.
  20. One of my friends had gastric bypass - she developed a stricture. It had to be dilated open with an endoscope three more times. That fixed it for her.
  21. I have surgery in two days and fear the stricture. I know it is a risk. I am wishing you the best of success in your recovery.

    Sensitive Teeth; Taste Buds Chaned?

I have switched to sensodyne toothpaste - more expensive but effective.

I also am buying a juicer that excels in juicing green leafy vegetables that are high in iron. That is another way that I will ensure plenty of iron, as well as calcium and other nutrients.
