    Help migraine & sick child

my doctor gave me a migraine medication that can be dissolved in a glass of Water. it is called Maxalt - have not used it yet but am impressed that it can be liquified. The Immitrex pills are too big for me - too soon post-op. Hope you feel better soon.

    ignorant people

If I respect the ignorant person, I simply calmly explain the facts - in a very neutral voice tone. If I do not respect the ignorant person, I don't bother. I just record in my mind "ignorant person worthy of ignoring in the future." That's my approach. It also depends on the tone/attitude of the ignorant person. If there is ill intent, I disengage with the person.
  4. I am 2.5 weeks post op. feeling great overall but very sluggish. I seem to move in slow motion. I have to push myself to move. Does this low energy go away? Once I am moving I am ok. But I have to stop and rest.
  5. Thanks for the insights!
  6. I am hoping that the fatigue will decrease for you. Some days I have very bad fatigue and other days not. I cannot figure it out. Wishing you the best of success!

    2 Weeks Out

i am approximately 2.5 weeks post op. am having severe pain in lower-left abdomen. it feels like there are spasms. it hurts at one specific incision. it does not hurt anywhere else. the pain is so bad that it hurts to walk, it hurts to get up from a sitting position and it hurts to sit down. the only time i feel relief is when i am lying down. it feels bloated. BM's are normal. Gas is moving through. is this normal? i have a follow-up appt with the surgeon in 2 days.

What Exercise Did You Do Today?

i am three weeks post op and walked several miles yesterday. Today I am paying for it. My abdomen is very sore. But I can tell that the walking helped. Walking is the only thing I can do. I still am too sore to lift or move my arms a lot. I am eager to use the elliptical machines at the gym. These are my favorite exercise machines because they put less stress on the joints. I do have to walk very slowly. When I first start walking my abdomen is very sore. But when I keep walking, that soreness seems to go away. I still have my drain in (and I am really tired of that drain but I had excessive bleeding) and I find that the hole in my abdomen that it goes through is very sore.

    Anyone Not Dump?

I don't think that I have ever dumped (i'm about 3 weeks out). But I've read that some people have dumping and don't experience strong symptoms. So maybe I have had dumping and not known it. I chose RNY specifically for the privilege of dumping so that I could manage my addiction to high-fat sugary foods. I do find that dairy causes lots of bloating, gas and discomfort. So I think I am lactose-intolerant from this surgery. I'm not sure if bloating, gas and discomfort = dumping.
  13. I thought that I would stay on shakes. But now I cannot stand them. However, there are some days when I am forced to use them - I simply find it to hard to eat. I think this is because on the day before, I "pushed" my pouch a little too far. So protein shakes are going to stay a part of my diet, even though I detest them.

Im sooo afraid of getting dumping!

Here is an idea: for any food, try eating a tiny amount of it. Then wait an hour. If you feel okay, then try more of it the next time. At the hospital, the bariatric nurse told me that I would be able to eat a forkful of, for example, birthday cake but no more. I am almost 3 weeks post op. I don't think that I have yet experienced dumping. But I chose gastric bypass to have the opportunity for dumping. This might sound strange, but my favorite foods in the past have been sugars, fats and carbohydrates. So I needed the threat of dumping in order to succeed at weight loss. Since surgery, I've never vomited and never had dumping (at least I don't think so). But I'm also being super careful. Two days ago I tried falafel. I was convinced I would be able to eat it if I chewed it well. After two bites, I knew it wouldn't work. So I quit eating it. This is my strategy for managing dumping. Again, I chose RNY specifically for the privilege of having dumping to help me navigate the many food choices that have been a challenge for me in the past. I wish everyone success and realize that others' experiences and needs are very different from my own. This is just my perspective.

    Does anyone?

I have no regrets - wish I had had the knowledge to do it sooner
  17. My surgeon said never to eat more than 1,000 calories per day. He also suggested that no meal should ever exceed 300 calories and that no snack should ever exceed 100 calories. His instruction was to eat only if hungry and to transition to a maximum of three meals a day, preferably two, and a maximum of 3 snacks per day. No alcohol. No caffeine. My surgeon has never been obese and follows this diet himself. He had no body fat. He practices what he says. I am trying to follow his advice for long-term success. He told me that RNY is the best procedure for maintaining long-term weight loss. I trust his advice, particularly because he follows it himself. I am 2.5 weeks post op and battle low energy. I am forcing myself to walk long distances. I love having the restriction in my stomach. I am very grateful for this surgery.
  18. I paid $26K - my insurance would not pay because my BMI was 34.9. I remain amazed at what insurance companies will do to avoid paying. We must work on changing this through legislation.
  19. I started out with sleeve but ultimately chose RNY. I asked my surgeon which procedures has the greatest success in terms of not regaining weight. He said RNY. For him, sleeve and RNY did not make any difference. It was up to me. He asked me if I liked baked goods. Answer = yes. He again recommended RNY. So I had RNY two weeks ago and I am so glad I did it. It cost me $10k extra (I am self pay). And I am so glad I did RNY. He also said that the risk of complications was only a tiny by higher with RNY versus sleeve. I am very pleads with the decision. I wish everyone success with whatever choices they make in their weight loss journeys!

    Sensitive Pouch

Dairy (post op) do not at all agree with my new digestive system. It causes severe flatulence as bloating. No more cheese for me. I am able to put a little bit of skim milk in coffee but that's it. From now on, I will have to use soy-based products and almond milk.
