    December 2012 Post Op Group

I had surgery on the 4th and still have upper left rib cage pain. Makes getting up really hard from any sofa, recliner, etc. difficult. Awoke this morning to massive/severe leakage from an incision. Staples and drain were removed at the hospital on the 6th, which was the day I got released. Was rushed to hospital this am to our local ER and was told that the leakage occurred because of swelling in the abdominal area and it found the path of least resistance to come out. No infection. They used steri-strips to reseal the incision and put a massive amount of padding over the top. So far so good. I am feeling good, otherwise. Able to eat pureed and able to drink more today. Found out I am down 20 lbs. So happy, happy, happy!

Well, arrived home today after RNY surgery on the 4th. Definitely wasn't a walk in the park. Just got home today. More later!

    December Dates

Glad to hear, Jess. I am glad I made it to my surgery date (tmrw) without illness. Many at my employment were really getting sick before my last day, which was Friday. Hopefully my recovery will be as healthy! Best wishes!

    Liquid Diet Blues

I am on my last day of the diet as I have surgery tomorrow. You can do it! It will be the longest two weeks ever so it is important to keep yourself as occupied as ever. I dove head first into making my transition home after surgery a better one. I accomplished home projects, sorted through clothes, got ready for the X-mas holiday and thoroughly cleaned the house. Definitely kept me busy and my mind off of the diet. After I got through the first few days of it, it really was better. I didn't have to cheat as my doctor allows 4 oz. of meat and 1/2 c. of veggies daily. So was very thankful for that.

I just looked at the extra time given to me as additional "research time" and feel like I am going through this experience with a whole lot more knowledge.

How frustrating.....sorry to hear that. Was it something new they implemented? Many insurances are actually dropping that protocol, now. Stick with it, every pound lost before surgery means you reduce your surgery risk.

    December Dates

Best wishes to everyone having surgery this next week. Going in on the 4th and I won't be staying in touch until I return home, so wanted to send my wishes to all my December Buddies! Hope everyone has an uneventful recovery. All I want for Christmas is my R-N-Y! See ya on the loser's bench Hugs, Cindee

I can't believe they waited all this time to tell you that? Wish I had some ready answers, but I don't. Insurance will not cover it?

    Diarrhea

Can you take Lactaid for the lactose intolerance? Otherwise, I will miss not being able to have ff milk with my protein shake . Hope that I don't become intolerant.

    Hospital Bag?

I was told to bring very little, so I intend to. Gowns front and back will be fine hospital slippers, okay too. I will have a cath until day 2 and a drain even longer so it's best to let them have the right access. I lose my vanity anytime I'm in the hospital. Not planning on visitors except DH, so for me I will arrive at the losers bench in pretty rough shape.....but I do clean up well.

    Unflavored Protein Powder

Can you add it to cold foods before their heated? Seems like you can't add it to foods already too warm but how about mixing the protein powder to the cold food and then heating? It still doesn't work?

    Unflavored Protein Powder

Wow, a little disappointed after reading your posts. I just ordered some of the unflavored protein powder hoping to add it to foods that I didn't want additional flavor. Didn't realize that it would be that hard to use. Rats! Guess next time I'll research a little more.

    December Dates

I had family wanting to be at the hospital for support, too. Politely told them that I would rather not have company. So then they offered to come out the weekend I get home. Again, I politely turned them down. Now if I had offers of general house cleaning, cooking (for the rest of the family), or laundry I would take them up on it in a heartbeat..... lots to do this weekend and thankfully, I've been getting a lot accomplished.

First Day Of My New Life

That's great news! It's amazing the differences that people report. Some can barely eat while others have no problems. Good luck to you on the losers bench and continue to follw your diet plan.

    4 Months Post Op! Update

Remember it's not just what we see in the mirror that counts. I'm sure there are things you can do that you couldn't before....clothes that no longer fit you, etc..... You are doing fantastic!

    ?

No way of telling, just sounds to me like they are committed to keeping the surgery date moving in the right direction. Sounds to me that by the time you take the last class needed you will be able to set the date soon after. I had all of my pre-op work finished (except my labs and I go this am) and my date was set a couple of weeks ago. Getting all of your "ducks" in a row. How exciting for you after the initial delay.....

You are doing fantastic! Welcome to the "losers" bench. I found this site doing a search for Gastric Bypass Forums not long ago. Then I later realized I could carry my new friends everywhere I go using the phone app. I am excited to be having my surgery soon. While my immediate family may not totally understand how I feel after the surgery, I know I have this "family" to turn to when I need them........Welcome!

    How Many Times

Initially met him at a bariatric seminar in which he did most of the speaking. Then had official visit only after they verified insurance coverage (not approval). We then talked about my history, he explained all of the procedures and basically told me that I had to have RNY because of my diabetes. I'm meeting with him tmrw to sign surgical consent. I had recent knee surgery and while going through all of the pre-op stuff, I only met with that surgeon once and that was for the initial evaluation. An asst. physician met with me for post-op care. I thought it was really strange. Seems so impersonal to me. Just saying!
