Wow, you are doing well getting a mile in! I have been doing mainly strengthening and resistance. Just my everyday routine still exhausts me, but not to the point of needing naps. I will be out for half the morning tomorrow with my first post-op visit, so looking forward to checking weight. -

I didn't bring any electronics not even my cell phone. I needed the rest (my children are grown) and just told eveeryone if it is really important call the hospital phone. I didn't feel like keeping track of everything. I let the hospital supply all my other needsand only had the outfit I came in and went home in it, too! Although I showered once in the hospital, I really enjoyed the shower I took when I came home from the hospital! Bliss! -

Don't get discouraged, buddy! It's called a stall and completely normal. I personally need to get excercising a little more. Still slight discomfort but doing well otherwise-- Went out today to bank and post office. Doesn't take much more than that to tire me out. So I came home and rested and I'll be back up and doing a little more soon. As long as you follow protocol, the weight loss will catch up. I am on pureed and savoring every morsel. Amazed at how little I paid attention to anything I ate before. Now I love and appreciate this new way of eating. I even use the smaller utensils, plate, bowls etc... -

Ask about being able to take some GasX. This too shall pass (pun-intended) sorry. I passed very little at first but now that the gas has been passing I sometimes wish I had a cork...*sigh* I actually didn't pass any until a day or two AFTER I returned home. It has quite a long path to follow. -

I had a day of that, but it's calmed down. It's part of the healing process! The less you put around your incisions at this point the better. Don't want infection! I was told an "antibiotic ointment only" on incisions for a couple days only after steri-strips have fallen off. -

One week post-op and while better, that specific pain/discomfort is the only one that annoys me daily. GRRRR! -
Well i stood up to the bad nurse
mrsblues replied to music1618's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sounds like you could use a probiotic for your gut. Often times the antibiotics the doctor prescribes, kill the important bacteria our gut needs. The balance of good bacteria/bad bacteria being unbalanced can cause symptoms like yours. I would definitely check with your practice, it is over the counter but I ALWAYS use a probiotic, not just when I am on antibiotics. Just an opinion. -
Eating slowly is also a key. Remember meals should last 1/2 hour. If your eating slow enough without measuring your pouch will give you signals that you've had enough. I am only 7 days post-op but have paid really close attention to what those sensations are trying to tell me. Feel like I'm at home with a new baby learning it's language...LOL I doubt you ruined it. But the signs you had were definitely a warning. Don't get discouraged!

OK, after my morning shower instead of wrapping myself in the Ace I tried a shapewear that I mentioned above. It worked and applies just the right amount of pressure I need. I also remembered that dollar general sells their own type of shapewear in the bra, sock, etc....aisle and it actually comes in pretty large sizes (2x-3x-?). Just keeping the information out there. -

To everyone asking about the binders.....yes you should ask your doctor first, as your practice may use them immediately after surgery. Having had abdominal surgery in the past, I knew how well the binder helped in my recovery. My binder was put in place after that surgery and I woke up in recovery with it. So at my last pre-op for RNY education class, I asked whether we would receive one in the hospital. I was told no, that they were not used. Truthfully, I was disappointed, because I knew how much it helped me get through the past surgery. Unfortunately, I no longer have it. Right now I am improvising with a very wide and long (thick) Ace bandage that I had from summer knee surgery. It wraps nicely around my mid-section and covers the main incisions which have caused the most problems. They told me in the ER to apply pressure to the wounds to help with the bleeding. Really?!?!? I am not an octopus! That's when I made the decision to take matters into my own hands. Check at your local pharmacies, Wal-Mart, etc... but watch for sizing. A one size fits all may not fit. Hope this helps, I know for those that are using them you are happy you can! Makes getting around easier. Another item I am going to try are the shapewear products. They have a higher waist and apply pressure, too. I know they sell a similar inexpensive brand at Walmart. Search on the Walmart site under shapewear. They are made with varied amounts of support. Hope this helps with the inquiries! Stay strong! Wishing everyone strength in their recoveries and blessings to all having complications or upcoming surgeries! -

I don't regret my decision at all to have the surgery, even though I too had complications. Now having turned that corner I can start acheiving my goals, too! Hopefully everyone's complication and the fact that we can be so open on this forum about them, helps others with the same experience to not necessarily be fearful. Having the support from others that have been through this type of surgery, helps when others just don't get it! I had someone already tell me "told you so" when it came to the complication. Just wait nay-sayers! I will be successful! -

Well I guess it would be weird because all of my bleeding was coming from a couple incisions and drain area. Yet, they removed drain staples and a stitch or two without any concern, since I swear each bleed looked as if I'd been shot and required multiple nurses to tend to and get under control. Released on Thurs. and Saturday woke up in another pool of blood. I was rushed to local ER and contacted BMI office today to follow up with the Sat. incident... no real concern was shown and appt. is for Friday. OK?!?! Meanwhile, I have played my own doctor and bound that area, keep it immaculately clean, covered, steri stripped and feel better than I ever had since surgery. Sometimes you got to advocate for yourself. Got advice sent to me by others on here, so this site has been my biggest tool in my recovery! -

Hang in there Southern! I feel so sorry for all that you have gone through already. I certainly hope there aren't any more surgeries, the pneumonia stops its process and that very soon you'll have a "turn-around" day.. Hugs -

I agree with everyone about the food. I definitely notice a difference in the way things are going down. I find myself paying really close attention to the sensations that I feel, with the foods I'm allowed to have. I haven't had any problems with nausea. Burp a lot, but don't feel overly gassy, which I find can be a warning to take it easy. I have been wearing a binder on my abdomen which has stopped all bleeding and oozing and allows me to get around easier. So for me it was a rocky start but now 6 days out I'm feeling so much better. No scale at home, so next weigh-in will be Friday at my post-op. Thinking of all of you, pre- and post-op buddies! -

Boy, that pain in the upper left ribcage feels as though I was stomped on. Very tender and sore to move. Still some incisional leakage this morning but better. Nothing is infected.....just keep pushing forward. Sounds like we are all limping along but everyday is a little better. Small baby steps..... Doing well with diet and everything else. Best wishes to everyone else on their own personal road to recovery. Each one will be different so don't get discouraged! Hang in there! -

Tried recliner the first night, but then my back and bottom started hurting. Moved to our bed and did better there once I got comfortable. Problem was trying to get in and out of bed. Started in the bed last night but had problems with leakage (prior post) so tonight I am staying in the recliner where I can monitor any issues. Hope you can find an easy place to get comfortable. Haven't tried the sofa yet, Not sure it would work for me. -

Hang in there, glad everything is going well for you. I am 4 days out and just now feeling hunger. Sounds like everything is going well for you. I had the same regimine as you while in the hospital and initially it was really hard, 4 days out and I am finally feeling some hunger. Pureed food is just fine for me right now. You must be excited to be going home! Keep us posted!
