I have the same sensation and I am almost 4 wks post op. There is swelling that occurs in your pouch and all of your new connections. The swelling can impede the easy passage of even liquids. It should get better with time. I noticed it a lot more in the first few weeks but it is now to a point where I don't feel it as often anymore and also notice that I can drink a lot more (3-4 gulps of liquid) and not have any problems. It should get better. If not please let your doctor know...... so far some of my initial worries were all within the norm. Congrats on your new life!

Merry Christmas, everyone, stay safe and be healthy!

....and as far as sex after the surgery, my doctor said it should be comfortable for your abdominal region, for it to be okay. If it's uncomfortable, wait......

How soon is too soon to drive after GB
mrsblues replied to Bward's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You want to make sure that you aren't having bouts of low blood sugar, or weakness. Both could seriously impair your ability to react. Wouldn't plan on any big days of driving just start slowly with short errands. -

Not chewing as much as I have to now! Can't believe how many foods I swallowed whole! This surgery makes you so aware of all of your bad habits....eye-opening for sure! -

Wow, that is fantastic! I am so happy for your progress. Remember your doctor will be able to tell you if concern is necessary. Make sure you are getting the nutrition, protein, and fluids you need but in the meantime, enjoy! -
Just want to bang my head against the wall...

I agree with everyone here. We were told at our clinic to always eat your protein first and then if you are still hungry you can add a small amount of veggies or fruit. I understand eating good carbs for the added fiber but certainly not any of the processed/refined carbs. -
Help after surgery?
mrsblues replied to lolawaiting's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Unfortunately I didn't have any help when I first got home, but I also experienced a burst of energy upon being at home and was able to take care of myself. When family arrived home in the evening I allowed them to wait on me so I could get my strength for the following day. It worked out in the end for me. Family was as helpful as they could be and at least kept up the home by doing laundry and cleaning. I mostly did little things while they were gone to have an excuse to get up and walk for a while. Worked for me. Everyone is different, do what you feel is right! -

Surgery Dec 17 still in the hospital nightmare!
mrsblues replied to Cyn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So sorry to hear all you have been through! It is so important for people like you to post even though the news or recovery isn't always as expected. If people were only hearing from those whose recoveries were a piece of cake, it would be biased because unfortunately, there ARE two sides of recovery. Thank you for sharing your progress and we are here to offer our support. Blessings for all infections to be healed, the pain to become better and your healing to begin. -
Okay, so I understand the importance of taking the bariatric multi-vitamins. I guess what I am not sure of is whether or not we should be taking anymore than that. The bariatric multi-vitamin has so much more in it than a regular multi-vitamin so am I right to assume we are getting all that we need? I do separate my vitamins into a morning and evening dose. I am only three weeks post-op and I do take add'l chewable calcium along with the bariatric multi. I have read where we can be deficient in many other vitamins. I hope that those vitamins we are deficient in are being taken care of in the bariatric multi's being taken already. I know my first post-op blood work will zero in on deficiencies better than I can guess at them but should I be concerned or just continue with my current plan. I have sublingual b-12's but haven't taken them yet as the current multi I am taking has a large amount of add'l b-12 in it. Also, I tend to be able get all of my protein in within the morning hours. I make a 20 oz skim milk protein shake using three scoops of protein that has 52 grams of whey protein per scoop. I know that having too much protein can also be taxing on the kidneys. Thinking I need to drink 3 separate smaller shakes and concentrate more on maybe fruits and veggies during my actual meal? Does anyone else worry about having too much protein. Should we worry about a limit from the kidney's point of view?

Welcome Gloria, happy to meet you. I am three weeks post-op and am learning how my new digestive system works, too. I can tell you that the surgery is of a malabsorption/ restriction type. You are restricted because the size of your "pouch" is much smaller than your actual stomach, before. It has a malabsorption component because you bypass parts of your stomach and intestines that digested and absorbed nutrients, fats and sugars. Our real motto becomes "we eat to live", because our diets are so important for our overall health, now. Vitamins, protein and fluids are a must for all of us. I would suggest that you google and read as much as you can about the Roux-en-y procedure to help you understand the importance of your new journey. Knowledge is power. Many good topics on this forum but there is also a lot of great information available on the web. I found a few books on Amazon.com that has helped me understand it all.

How much is too much?

Everyone loses at their own pace. Some weigh more due to the fluids retained, others lose quickly. As long as you are not dehydrated, I wouldn't worry. Congrats! -

When people remark about how little I eat, I tell them that after looking at their meals it's amazing to think I used to eat that much........conversation ends! -

I had chicken the other night and decided to try a small piece of the skin. While everything went down just fine, the following day I had diarrhea, just once, but enough to let me know to stay away from chicken skin......lesson learned. They weren't kidding when they said that fats don't absorb the same way afterwards. -
Really important to get fluids in. There have been times when I feel a little off, but the minute I drink fluids whether water or protein I feel better. Taking all of your vitamins should help, too!

I made some Christmas cookies for the family and didn't even care to have any, so weird!

Everyone's journey is different and I applaud those that have done very well, but for the rest who might be experiencing complications, we are part of their support team. Of course, we would all like to come out of the surgery doing really well but runfortunately the statistics go in either direction and both sides need to be heard. Happy Holidays everyone, hold your loved ones close and continued strength in your individual journeys! -

Just make sure it is moist meat or add moisture to it. No larger than a pencil eraser and CHEW, CHEW, CHEW! I am at the same point in my recovery and eating soft foods. Not sure what bothered me last night but it made me so sick. My first day back at work today and I almost didn't make it because of the pain, felt like I wanted to vomit, wow, it really was awful. The only new food I had tried was cottage cheese..... So food rested today and didn't even have protein until my lunch. Drank water (although, still not enough) and waited until I got home to try anymore foods. Had some chicken broth tonight, small amount of mashed potatoes and water. So far all is well. So please add slowly and carefully. don't think I'll be trying cottage cheese again anytime soon! -

Saw the doctor today, got clearance to return to work on Monday, so happy! I miss all of my students, so much. We have only one more week then we're off for 17 days for the holidays so will have add'l time to rest. Pretty easy week because not much is planned when the kids are bouncing off the walls with Christmas silliness. Love this time of year with them and glad I will be able to be a part of it all. Lost a total of 30, with 10lbs lost since Saturday. I did find out that the upper left side that has been giving a lot of people pain is where the port where the cutter/stapler is inserted. The one above your navel is the port where the camera is inserted.. Hmmmm, interesting. So going to make some of my meals for work for thr upcoming week and will be trying to stay hydrated and nourished.....main priority! Excited! -

I totally agree with you! I am 10 days out and am feeling really good, overall. I was worried about the whole lifestyle change and food issues and so far, nothing has materialized and I am on pureed. I sip, chew, get my protein, vitamins and (well) still working on the stamina... Exercise will be the next thing to step up but having had initial bleeding issues I am just taking it slower! -
Congratulations, so excited for you! We keep adding timber to this loser's bench--Welcome!
