I have found that a lot of my pouch issues were from not eating regularly. Although I don't really feel like eating, my pouch seems more settled if it has something in it versus being totally empty. Warm decaf tea has been a great soother. I don't like things moistened I prefer most of my food dry. The differences we each experience are so amazing!

I never heard that weight loss can change your vision? That one is new to me. Your face shape changing due to weight loss might make glasses fit differently, so for that reason I would wait. That's only my opinion, but great job on the weight loss! You are doing great!

Glad to hear you made it through the surgery okay, Gen! I was gonna mention the gas pains being exceptionally worse than the bypass surgery because I remember it all too well but in the end I was hoping that maybe it was just my recovery. It wasn't pleasant at all. I had a full hip-to-hip incision and out of 11 surgeries it was the worst for me to recover from. How soon will it be before you get the results? Hang in there! You've been through a lot, that's for sure!

Thanks, Gen! I used the, recipe on Allrecipes.com. http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Ezekiel-Bread-I/ as this particular recipe did not call for the sprouted grains. My family prefers the "multi-grain texture." It is somewhat crumbly, but very chewy because of the multi-grains. Each recipe makes two loaves. When I make this bread I go ahead and grind the amount of grains I need, per recipe, and place in individual containers. Then I only need to add the spelt flour and liquid ingredients. This bread freezes really well and we go through both loaves a week. So once a month I grind ingredients, but I bake the two loaves weekly. Great way to get that extra fiber. I didn't know that they made ezekiel english muffins! I make a lot of homemade products for cleaning, laundry, cooking, etc... it saves so much money. My motto is if I need to buy it, I research an alternative homemade recipe. I gave in and had a bite of homemade pizza. We use tomatoes instead of sauce, ate very little and realized I really could live without it. I can't do fruit cups, too slimy for me, same with Jello, cottage cheese, scrambled eggs, Fruits I will put in protein shakes or puree, I do raw vegetables better than cooked. Meats don't bother me at all-- so weird, everyone is so different. Next I want to try some homemade (real) vegetable chips http://www.buzzfeed.com/peggy/25-baked-alternatives-to-potato-chips-and-french-f?sub=1671861_435288. So many of these look good, and easy! Thinking of you this week as you go through your surgery and recovery, Stay strong!

Making cauliflower soup, pork roast, potatoes (for family) and asparagus. We'll see how it goes! So much would go to waste without family being here. LOL

Doctor visit went well, down 42 lbs. from surgery. He was very pleased that all has been going well. Don't go back until March. Released for all excercise and activities. Wants me to get more fluids in. I'm slacking on drinking enough water. Can't do citric acid in drinks so making my own teas with stevia, herbal and green but I always seem to have more cramping if it is too cold. Plain water doesn't set well with me, either, although it did in the beginning. Don't think about the fluids like I did immediately after surgery, but got to make that effort. Made some homemade ezekiel bread today. Because it is made more of grains and beans it has more protein per serving. Surprised, it settled well, had only a quarter of a slice and it's very filling. Doesn't clump together as you chew it. Finding out that many foods are revolting now because of texture issues. So many foods I use to love, can't even think about eating them now. So weird. Anyone out there feeling the same about foods? On another note, I backed out of my evening with friends. Just couldn't do it since the evening was centered around food and drinks. They understood, thankfully. It's easier for me to be around food with people who really understand all of my quirks right now. Just not ready yet. Someday!

Another post-op visit with Dr. Lahmann today. Can't wait to weigh! I try and wear very similar clothes each time so my weight is pretty accurate. Meeting up with friends at a restaurant afterwards for a birthday celebration. I think it will be a little overwhelming for me. Food and drinks---- wasn't sure intially if I wanted to go...! First time out with friends since surgery.

    Embarrassing ?

Some of the sensation that makes you feel like you have to go, is the gas trying to exit. Without eating you will have very little to expel. Once you are on pureed/soft food, things will begin moving.....still might take a few extra days though.

    Left side pain

Was the worst for me, too! My only real complaint after the surgery! Never thought it would go away, but it does.
  13. RNY surgery date 12-04-12 Start weight: 232 lbs Current weight 190 lbs. Amazing, because I just got started with the weight loss and co-workers/friends are asking me if I will be losing anymore because I look good at the weight I am. Looking forward to losing even more! I found that my weight loss has been about 1 lb for every 2-3 days.
  14. I had bmi of 38 with type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol. Insurance approved it. Surgery was on 12-04-12 and I left the hospital without the need for anymore medicines for diabetes and only 7 weeks out, I no longer take any of the other medications, either. I've lost 40 lbs. and feel fantastic.

Haven't posted in a while-- Wanted to let everyone know that I am thinking of you all and catching up on everyone's progress. The pictures you are updating are amazing! Congrats to all! Gen, thinking of you with your upcoming surgery. Had a full complete open hysterectomy myself, (huge fibroids and profuse bleeding) 10 years ago. Hopefuly, everything will go as planned and it will just be another bump in the road as you recover. For my surgery buddies, I am so happy to hear you are doing well. Simply, I think of you often and hope you will be feeling well soon. The complications weren't what you signed up for, but what you have been going through is so important for this forum. Complications do happen, and your voice is important for others to hear and I personally hope you can once again be a voice on this forum and especially this thread, when your recovery is more stable. Not doing MFP anymore. I use the Fitbit Ultra and everything is logged in on their website. I don't want to have to record info twice so gave up on MFP. I feel really good after having a bad couple of weeks myself. Nonstop cramping and an overall feeling of yuck. Think I might have had a virus or just a few "bad pouch days" because even though I changed up a few dietary items. I went back to old diet items when I started feeling better without incident. Feeling more like my old self, everyday, chuckling as the clothes I previously wore no longer fit or when my feet slide around in my shoes. I always manage to find something that will work but not for much longer. Loving it!

    Hello new to the sight

Welcome! Nice to meet you! There is a lot of good info in this forum. Enjoy the threads and ask additional questions if you need to. There should be a January group that was started for all of those having surgery in Jan. I am from the Dec. group having had my surgery on the 4th. Luckily, after a few minor bumps I am doing quite well. Do your research, it is only a tool, not a miracle. Just being honest! You have not chosen the easy way out!

I went back after two weeks but we only had that week left before we had our Christmas break So now it is back to the grind but I just adore the children, such a satisfying job! My own children are grown so it gives me my "fix" of little ones without having to bring them home with me...LOL Now I am gonna sit with that app for a while and see what I can figure out....

Thanks, Gen! Brought the elliptical out of the garage, after we got our decorations down and gave the elliptical a good cleaning. It's now in our living room, (thank god it's winter and everyone hibernates). I've been using it, but I can't do more than a few minutes at a time, but take breaks and get right back on. I purchased a Fitbit off of Ebay and hope to incorporate that into my exercise routine and looking to get "MyFitnessPal" figured out soon. Since I work in our town's school district I get free membership to the fieldhouse over at our high school (1 block away). They have a track, weight room and a bunch of exceercise equipment all free to employees. Our hospital offers free membership to their health facilities but for the winter it is too far for me to travel to. So hubby wants me to see how much the membership would be to our local fieldhouse for him and he would like to "tag" along. I am actually looking forward to going back to work tomorrow (we've been on our Christmas break), just to be more active and to get back into a routine. It's time! Good luck on all your progress, too Gen, and thanks for the encouragement---means a lot to me!!

I wonder if it might be too sweet, personally I would try a little at a time until I thought it was to my liking. Does sound like it is worth a try. Although, I like mine just as they are..... I add real frozen fruit to my vanilla shakes (presurgery) to make it more of a dreamsicle type of flavor and no added ice. Delish-- adds carbs, so watch your intake---complex carbs but does affect sugars. Good if you are calorie deficient and need to up your intake. Now I use chocolate protein powder and a little decaf coffee crystals, and drink slightly frozen or well chilled....I have to really watch my carbs. I just weighed 197lbs. ONEDERLAND, finally!
