How long have you had your band and are you still happy?
Beka posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hi all I was flitting through the lap band complications forum and a lot of people who have had the band awhile are having them removed or having problems. So of course I had a bit of a freak out but thought that I should get my stats straight first, so I am curious how long have you had your band and are you still happy with it. Also have you had any problems - even if its now okay? -
Hi ya Just got curious about the link between lap band slippage and following post op diets because of another post - so wondering for those that had experienced lap band slippage did you follow your post op diet?

Hi all Yesterday I had a .2ml fill and now have 6.2mls in a 10ml band. Today I feel like I have completely lost all restriction WTF?!?! I thought getting another fill would give me a kick in the bum because I found my meals were getting bigger and I was starting to snack. But today it feels like I don't even have a band. Is it normal for the restriction to sometimes take a couple of days to kick in or do you think I have done something horrible like stretched my pouch, I am also worried about having a sudden leak - what do you guys think? Beka

Only 28 years old. My heart goes out to his family esp his little girl Matilda.

In two days I will have had my band for 5 months and in that time how much have I lost - 9.7kgs (21lbs)!! I exercise for 30 - 45mins per day and at max eat 1200 calories - usually around 1000. I love seeing everyones success story and feel really happy for them but on the other hand I feel a bit frustrated. Why can't I do this!!! I had visions of being at my goal by my bandverisary but at this rate I just don't know that my goal (another 27kgs/60lbs) is even possible. I am ready to accept the award for slowest lap band loser ever!!:faint: Bex

This is a great website and after looking at it I have gone back to my original goal. When I reach this goal then I will decide if I still want to lose any more.

True don't think it really matters - guess up to individuals if they want to revolt (he he) or stay in the same group. Steph, thinking about it I now think I would be with you about how things would be very different for a 100lbs to go and a lost 90lbs only have 10 to go person. Also I suppose changing groups could be seen as a mileston

Anyone here form keloid scars? What did you/will you do?
Beka replied to mommakatx2's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have got one keloid from the surgery - the one just above my belly button. Everyday I put something called bio-oil on it (also oil used from stretch marks, scars etc - might be an NZ product not sure) and it seems to be starting to fade after five months. -
if were only eating 800-1000 calories shouldnt we be losing?
Beka replied to andielmt's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't get it either!!! In the last month I have upped my calories from 1000 to 1300 (wasn't losing really any weight on 1000 so was told to up), I log all my calories and do 30-45mins per day. I make sure that I have fat in my diet and keep my protein up - still nada, nothing, zip!! It has taken my nearly 5months to lose 4.7kgs (5kgs lost during post liquid diet week). I don't think its as simple as energy in,energy out and mixing the right foods - there must be something else that goes on in our body. I just hope that sticking to my program day after day that one day I will wake upand miracle of miracles I will be thin!!! -
Also I'd love tips from those who are nearly at their goal of losing 50+ and if they moved weight groups forums might be harder to find them - just my thoughts anyway.
-
Thats what I was thinking - supporting each other right till the end??? Cause someone who has already lost 150lbs and has only 25lbs to go is going to be in a very different head space then those who only have to lose 25lbs.....
-
Totally agree with uniqueone, the fact that he is putting someone else first (esp so early on in your marriage when usually you are in honeymoon mode) just stinks. Imagine if you have kids and his sister disagrees with how you raise them - what support is your husband going to be then? Plenty of fish in the sea chick and you will definately find one that wants to treat you like a goddess - you don't have to put up with this!!

With you on this one green. I think NZ and Canada are very similar in a lot of aspects (except you guys get far colder). My husband has guns because he is an olympic clay bird shooter - had to go through huge process to get license for it and it expires every five years. The guns are locked in a gun safe completely dismantled and ammo is kept in another safe, never ever would it even cross my mind to use them for defense. I think giving 'everyone the right' to bear arms is a bit like the chicken and the egg - the bad guys get guns so the good guys get guns, someone breaks into your home they are going to bring guns because they 'know' you will probably have one. Break ins in NZ involving guns are extremely rare and the site of a dog is usually enough to give them a scare. But I guess if you knew that the strange man coming through your door had a gun, owning a gun might be the only option.

Chick you are totally in the right!! No man has the right to talk to you that way, esp not your husband!!! Unfortunately faithmd is right, blood will usually win out and god knows how bad things might get in the years to come if he is willing to let her get away with it this time.

Very cool new forums!!! I had a total of 37.4kgs/83lbs to lose and now five months out I have only lost 23 so long way to go yet! Getting a fill on Friday so fingers crossed it will get things moving. Question about forum - so when we get below 50 left to lose do we change forum groups??

I am 30 and live in New Zealand. I have been banded since August. I was overweight or obese for most of my twenties (21 was the last time I was at a 'normal' weight) and I have sworn that I will not spend my thirities in the same position. This year is the year to shed the skin and become a flirty thirty!!!

make33 - I read your advice on jackie thread, thanks for the great advice - going to sit down today and go through my food and exercise diary with a thin tooth comb. I am not going to let this beat me!!! jfran - I think I might see if upping my calories does it cause I have seen a lot of people who seem to be 1300 - 1500 that are having great results. Who would have thought you needed to eat to loose weight!!! LapBandit - At the moment I exercise 30-45mins a day that's why I am surprised that I haven't lost more. Do I have to do more than this? PamJ4 - I also have the 10cc band and am currently at 5.8cc I am going in to get another .2 on Friday. I used to have 6cc but found it hard after a week so got it taken out but now I feel ready for it again. Hopefully after this one things will start moving in the right direction.

Personally myself I got the lapband (also self pay) so that I no longer had to live the 'dieting' lifestyle. I didn't want to restrict the foods I was having and not be able to indulge once and a while. I want to be like a normal person, be able to eat with my friends and not have a big hang up on bad or good foods. So for the band its about letting me live a normal non-food obsessed life. My portions are a lot smaller and friends who don't know that I have got a band mention that its nice not having me on a diet and never notice that I just eat smaller meals and don't drink when I eat. My weight loss has been slow (only 23 pounds in 5 months) but I have been able to enjoy myself and not feel like food is a big chore anymore. The only 'diet' rules I have is Protein, Produce and then carbs. Sometimes I finish everything on my plate sometimes I don't. One thing I will say though is probably try and cut out the eating and drinking together- this is one that I have stuck to religiously and once you get used to it, its not that hard and an hur after eating is not that long to wait (in saying that every now and then I have a wine with friends when we go out for dinner but I always make it one and sip really slowly). YOU CAN DO THIS!!!! Just try not to lock yourself into what is bad and what is good food, you will find if you take the 'I have to be low fat, low carb' out you might find that you relax a bit and cravings won't be as strong. Anyway I have waffled enough! Bex )

He he Jackie, obviously we are having the same kind of day!! YES WE CAN DO THIS!! Do you have a place where you record your food and exercise? I am hoping to look in my one to find any clues to why its taking so long! He he or maybe there is some August curse!!??

Hi Today I am feeling rather down after reading some of the weight loss stories and the amazing results MOST people seem to have had - I was starting to think I must be the slowest lapband loser ever. In two days it will be 5 months since I was banded and I have only lost 9.7kgs/23lbs and 5kgs/11lbs of that was in the first week of liquids. Starting to turn to food because I feel like I am again failing at something - you guys seem to have a great support network going and maybe thats what I need to get me out of this slump.

Maybe they teach very different things in history class here in NZ -more balanced approach maybe since I heard also many horrors of what many (notice I don't say all) early christians did ie: anyone heard of witch hunts, persucution of others not of same religion. But I am also intelligent enough to know history is always written from someones perspective and not always necessarily right. Also I figure generalisations (lumping everyone into categories) just shows how ignorant some of our world still truly is. Anyway each to their own and I understand people will believe what they believe and me not here to convert. Blessed Be!! -
Would you do it again or choose another option?
Beka replied to BPM's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I was banded nearly five months ago and its been really slow losing the weight (only 10.5kgs/23 pounds to date) but I am now at a point where clothes are fitting better, I have more energy and I can get through events like xmas without the torture of food and weight. I like that with the band its something I still need to work for and I am actually the one achieving it along with my band - even getting to where I am now I am proud of me and what I have learnt.
