    Psych Eval :/

I had just an hour talk with the psychologist. No test. Does anyone remember the names of the tests administered? Just curious.

    Couldn't resist!

    100 pounds lighter!

Gastric bypass is my guess...lol. Seriously, congrats!
  4. I think it's just that we are scared of success and failure, change and staying the same all at once. I'm scared of always feeling it, like never feeling like me again. I dread recovery. I've had several surgeries. I've recovered well...not sure why this is so freaky. I had a hernia repair, oral surgery, sinus surgery, a c section, and bilateral carpal tunnel releases. All successful, all good results, one equally life changing! I'm scared I'll be a big burden to my husband, both if I do this, or if I didn't. I want the health that will come with losing weight.

    shrimp

OIC...if it's pink with white meat, it's cooked. Cocktail shrimp is just served cold. Maybe you can tolerate it better cold, or if you heated the cooked shrimp it overcooked and got tough and harder to digest. You can't cook shrimp long, it can overcook easily. If you want it as a hot dish, start with the raw grey ones and only cook them until they turn pink and opaque.

    shrimp

RAW shrimp? Like the grey slimy or do you mean the pink cocktail shrimp? I never heard of eating the grey stuff...not even sure that's safe?
  7. I'm feeling the same way. I'm like WLS bipolar: eager to tackle the challenge one minute, crumbled hot mess the next...

What to bring to the hospital?

I work in a hospital too. One word of advice...don't bring your own slippers and socks. They have the non skid kind available and you can throw them out before you leave. Unless you want to bring home the no see 'ems on your slippers. The floors are cleaned, yes, but other people's shoes are not. Things get tracked all over...

    Secure Health

I work for a hospital. My insurance covered it based on letters from my doctors regarding medical necessity.
  10. I work in psych and have worked with preoperative and postoperative WLS patients, just by coincidence, not specialty. I have only seen one person denied because of the psych Eval due to extensive psych history of self injury and severe personality disorder. That said, mine consisted of just a therapy session with lots of questions regarding history, no tests were administered. Some psychologists do testing to rule out personality disorders that might hinder a person's recovery or their ability to cope.

Hi Krysta! How are you doing? How's your mom and sister? I got my date right before the December meeting and it was a sales pitch for vitamins, January's meeting was cancelled so I didn't get to announce it. I go in February 7! So I won't be to the meeting until March.

little more confidence in my decision

Thank you very much! I preach self awareness to my patients, and I am starting to see where I will struggle. My bff is a therapist...I'm so lucky that way.
  14. I started this whole experience with the intent of having lap band. My surgeon felt the RNY bypass was the way to go. I reluctantly agreed. The more I read about lap band and talk to banded people, the more confident I am in this decision. Today, spoke with a co worker from another department where I work who had lap band a year ago. Her weight loss has stalled, was hoping a fill will help, and she said she is struggling with old habits. When she told me she had the band, it was about the time she had lost 25 lbs, in March last year. She looks essentially the same. Although she looks healthier having lost some of the weight, today she seemed defeated. I felt bad for her: all that work and pain. I hope her fill helps. What a struggle this whole weight loss thing is!

little more confidence in my decision

I am hoping so too. My job, honestly, kinda sucks, but I try to focus on the good things, besides the check, that I take away from it. For instance, being aware of cross addictions, and grief over the loss of a dependable, but dysfunctional, coping mechanism, ie overeating.

We are going to Montana in August. Going to be on a kayak at some point. Hope it will be easier than when I tried it last year in Lake Placid!

February 7th in Peoria for me...who's your doc?
  22. I was approved at the beginning of December for surgery February 7. My doctor was super booked- 10 weeks out. Today marks the start of my one month countdown and it's also my birthday. The wait to get moving is wearing on me. Too much time to think, worry about complications, doubt myself...support groups were even cancelled for this month. I was kind of happy at first, not having Christmas be my first challenge out of the gate. Now that all the holidays are over, I just want to move on. Two months after getting a date is too long.
