Decaf coffee or herbal tea are they ok
Debbiebydesign replied to workingmotherofthree's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm wondering too. I've been reading on here and other resources that decaffeinated, tea or coffee, is ok, but it still might have some caffeine, so you need to add more Water. I've also read that the temperature can matter early on and that every doctor's advice here is different. -

"Irregardless" almost makes me homicidal. "Your, You're," "Two, To, too"... -

A friend of mine who lost over 220 lbs with RNY ate wraps from fast food restaurants when she was in a pinch. She would make two meals out of one. -
Improvement in Facial Hair After Surgery?
Debbiebydesign replied to Smilejoelle1's topic in The Gals' Room
Makes sense...losing weight can help PCOS, which can cause facial hair. -

My surgeon told me the same thing...they were taking more bands out than they were putting in lately. -
On my way to the hospital!
Debbiebydesign replied to Catgyrl68's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good luck! -
I get more and more...stunned, for lack of a better word, with each passing day and every hurdle I have cleared. I can't help but to compare it to my pregnancy. I had a pretty good idea what to expect and time to prepare, and by those last few weeks, I wanted to get the messiness over and get on with it. I just got my FMLA approval papers from the Dept of Labor, and the last thing before surgery- meetings with the doctor and nutritionist on January 22. I'm not ashamed to admit I'm scared of the surgery and that I might not be up to the challenge. I know I can do it, but scared nonetheless. I just wish I could sleep better lately. Been waking up and panicking! This should pass!

Feeling gulity

Remember, there is going to be emotional fall out after surgery. The goal is not to be perfect, ever. Give yourself some slack, your head is healing too! -
What day of the week was your surgery?

Just got my FMLA approval letter. My surgeon requested 6.4 weeks. -

My doc didn't know going in what did, he said 4 weeks, but I'm planning on taking more if I need to. I don't want to get hit in the gut or have to tackle an agitated patient...still, I can't imagine having major surgery and working a week later. I hope all goes well for you, though! -
My husband is scared, too. He supports me, but he's been avoidant because of fear. I wanted him to go to support group with me, but I think he just couldn't deal yet. He did mention my RNY to a coworker and the coworker told him that his wife also had weight loss surgery by my doctor and that the doctor was great and came highly recommended. When he told me this, I could tell it was something that gave him some relief. I think the support groups would do our spouses all some good.

Wow...my doc told me minimum 4weeks to recover before he found out what I did for work, maybe longer. He specifically mentioned that the early days you sleep a lot because of meds and low calorie consumption "while you still have all the weight on you." You might want to ask the doc. A week might not be realistic. -
A sobering sight to see
Debbiebydesign replied to Expat's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Congratulations...sobering indeed. I am still a few weeks from surgery, but when I think about how much I have to lose, I wonder how it got so out of control. Maybe this moment was an epiphany for you. I hope it keeps moving you to where you want to be. -
emotional mess

FYI...your dose of antidepressants may need to be adjusted due to all the changes in your body. Follow up with the doc who prescribes those meds for you. Also...we see a lot of people in the psych facility where I work who have had WLS who struggle after losing eating as their coping mechanism. It's common. -
what post op 1-5 year diets look like
Debbiebydesign replied to R4TNM's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
A colleague of mine had RNY before I met her. She was 420 when she had it, 180 and 5'7" or 8" when I met her, about 2 years after. She has since had plastics, and a baby. I remember she told me she knew one thing she could get at every fast food place that she could tolerate well, usually a wrap and she'd eat half and save the rest for later. She goes out and can be happy with a slice when she has pizza with friends. My brother lost 227 lbs with a Lap band. He eats whatever he likes but in much smaller quantities. Both eat slowly...very slowly. I know a lot of people several years out and have been plucking their brains. I think the most important things they learned is to plan ahead for challenges and keep limits in mind. -

Pre-op testing today. So far, so good. That Barium stuff is kind of gross, but not as bad as I thought. Kind of feel like I ate plaster.

I'm not complaining though...just under 7 months. They said 4-6.

I know you didn't ask me, but I hope this helps. I went to the first mtg July 16. They kind of "forgot" to call me to make the surgeon's appointment so, my first surgeon office visit for me was September 7. Psych test was October 30. I got my date December 4. Thanksgiving held me up just under two weeks. The insurance person at the doc's office was in vacation that long, and had my last required visit with my PCP on November 19, which was the last thing before submission to BcBs. It was submitted on November 30. I figured it took 2-3 business days for approval. My surgeon was booked 9-10 weeks out. I'm scheduled for February 7. Waiting is the game.
