Thank you! I am sorry you had one too they are horrid. I have no choice but to do a revision what they did down there is really a mess and needs to be fixed. Not looking forward to it since it will have to be open again since the Mexican surgeon oddly chose to do it open for no apparent reason but I agree it is better then all these complications. Oh to the ladies...I got my monthly the day after surgery but nothing this month. Is anyone else experiencing this. I have accounted it to being because all the hormones with the rapid weight loss has thrown everything off. -

I am around just trying to get things leveled. I had a severe obstruction and was admitted with some "grave" looking labs according to the admitting Dr. I was ok for two days and am now starting to have symptoms of another obstruction since nothing will stay down. I am waiting til after Christmas to go back in and be readmitted since I was told the next step is a PICC line and parental nutrition for a few months and another dilation to stretch my opening and do a revision since the surgeons here see some pretty serious flaws with the way my surgery was done in Mexico. Last time it was the size of a pin hole. On the positive side I am down 55 lbs in 6 weeks so that is a plus. Hope everyone is doing well and Happy Holidays!!! -
So I got rushed to the hospital since I have been in severe pain even with Water now and they pulled my emergency records from San Diego after I was taken out of Mexico when the surgeon completely screwed up down there. Found out I without a doubt have sever Gastroparesis. I am pissed and in horrids amount of pain and now after researching when the ER Dr told me not to worry now about what is to come I have found out really there is no treatment besides stomach removal. So my question is does anyone else have this disorder and if so was yours caused by WLS like mine. The dr's seem to think the horrid surgeon who did my surgery did some pretty severe nerve damage.

Gastroparesis ...anyone else?

Thanks everyone for your input. They have narrowed it down to my surgery causing the issue since I have absolutely no history of diabetes, uncontrolled blood sugars or high bp I am miserable to say the least. Can't even drink sips of Water again so it is back to the hospital this afternoon to be admitted and put on a feeding tube or tpn. As for the pacemaker it was discussed but I was told my new stomach is too small for that and the smart pill will apparently most likely cause an obstruction. The nausea meds work for the nausea at least but keeping those down anymore is next to impossible as is pain medication. I was in such horrific pain last night all I could do is sit and cry. Then finally the broth I ate at 11am decided to come up and I got some very minor relief. What is being told to me is I am most likely going to have to have my stomach completely removed. Really having buyers remorse right now. I would like to once again tell folks that are thinking about going to Mexico for their surgeries to seriously think twice. -
Getting sick constantly....some TMI
Eva Chavez posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I had open RNY on 8/12 and it has been a rough road since the start but now I am wondering if there is indeed something actually wrong. I really can not eat anything without vomiting...sorry I don't like that word but it is what it is. I can drink Water and my Protein shakes fine but any type of food seems to make me ill and comes back up. I had some cottage cheese about 2 1/2 hours ago and just now I was sitting and watching tv and unexpectedly and without warning it came back up. I didn't even have that achy my pouch is too full feeling. As I ran to the restroom to let it do its thing I noticed in the toilet the shake i drank 6 hours ago was also mixed in. I am wondering how something I drank 6 hours ago could possibly be still in my pouch. Also just when I thought it was over I started projectile vomiting water...never done that yet. So I suppose my question is has anyone had this happen? Also any advice is greatly appreciated. -

Thank you ladies! LosingItForMe2011 I am 24 days out...I was thinking stricture too but for some reason I thought there was pain associated with those. I am going to have to give my Dr a call. -
Like everyone said it could be worse at least it was an "allowed" food. For me I can only eat one or two small spoonfuls of that and even then it makes me sick.

Unfortunately I won't be able to use it til Sunday though since I dont see a Dr til then and I had open on 8/12 so I want to make sure I am ok to get on it. Also to everyone are you counting your protein shakes as part of your liquid requirements? -

I am with you ladies I had a mine on 11/12 which had to be converted to open and I just can not do any food without getting sick. I have tried everything. The only relief I got last night was because I did protein shakes and water only so I didnt get sick last night but every other night I have gotten sick. Also I can only eat about one or two bites of anything before getting that stuffed sick feeling. I will be going in to have my stitches removed this Sunday and going to mention this who knows I suppose I could have a stricture. -
Insurance Will Only Pay For Rny
Eva Chavez replied to rtjhouse's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know it is scary but I would be thanking your insurance for being responsible. Below is a copy from another post I commented on. I would also like to add that there are other medical reasons to choose the bypass vs the sleeve. One being if you are insulin dependent and on a high dose of insulin your best choice would be the bypass. The sleeve will lower your need for insulin and you may be able to stop using it at some point with the sleeve but the bypass is the gold standard for reversing insulin dependent diabetes. The second reason for choosing the bypass over the sleeve would be for instance if you are noticing even on your liquid pre op diet you are really not losing much or if over the years you can genuinely say with a good diet and excercise the weight just seems to hold on for dear life then chances are you might be what is called insulin resistant..without necessarily being diabetic of taking insulin. If you have PCOS the bypass is definitely the route to go and here is why. The bypass has shown to do what is described as a reset on our bodies. PCOS and insulin resistant people generally speaking have an underlying metabolic disorder that may or may not be weight related. Studies have shown that the procedure due to the rerouting triggers your body to reverse the metabolic disorder in almost all cases. Now this won't be a one size fits all type of thing but generally speaking this is the case. I am a second year surgical resident and am going to be having the bypass on the 12th. My body just refuses to shed the weight. I also have developed abnormal menses and slightly abnormal hair growth which are all signs of a metabolic disorder. This further explains why we see people 5 or 6 days post op with 20lb weight losses. The body has been reset and is now function as it should and usually with greater efficiency. -

Throw em down and stomp all over them...she might get the hint then. Seems extreme but apparently she doesn't get it. -
I am soo sorry. I wish we could all just get through this complication free. I think you have the right mind set though. Just keep focusing on the purpose. I finally got home last night and sleeping in my own bed was such a relief. Things will get better. This is the first day so far I can feel energy being restored in me which is great. Also stepped on the scale and seeing the 21lbs down brought a huge smile to my face. I am going to be praying for your continued healing!!

Hi Ladies and Gents...So I am finally stable enough to be released this morning with some pretty strict instrudtions though. I had my surgery on the 12th in Mexico...which I don't recommend anyone doing. It is now the 23rd and after almost dying two times and some huge problems i am 18lbs down...walking...sipping water...two tablespoons of beef broth and able to tolerate oral medication for the pain nausea and other problems that came up. I am praying for everyone in this journey right now whether you have had your surgery or are still waiting. It's funny how we know beforehand this is a lifelong choice but low and behold last night I sat in my hospital bed crying because the realization hit me. I know I am ready and even with the horror I went to through to get this is I would do it all over. Thanks to everyone on here who has been so supportive. I appreciate you all.

Hi Ladies and Gents, Wanted to check in and say thanks for all your prayers and good thoughts. I don't have much energy so this wont be much I am still on a PICC line and getting nutritition and fat emulsion from their with antibiotics and such. I will still here for a long while so just taking it in one day at a time. Hope everyone is doing well! My prayers are with you all

Thank you everyone for your prayers. The San Diego police were called because I was receiving threats from them I hope everyone is doing well and good luck to those going tomorrow please don't let my story alarm you. You are all in safe hands here in the states

They are telling me I am very lucky to be alive but I will be here recovering for at least 3 weeks. Please to anyone thinking of going to Mexico please dont!! The Dr's here are all telling me how many people they see each week with botch jobs like mine

My surgery went very bad I am typing this from the ICU of an American hospital in San Diego. I am not well enough to type the whole story but my mother had to call the American Consulate to get me out. He refused me pain meds telling me I was complaining over nothing and he screwed up during the surgery and caused internally bleeding which he had to completely cut me open for. My stitches are oozing tons of blood and I am waiting on an OR and surgeon to take me back into surgery. BEWARE of Dr Quinones in Tijuana Mexico
-
Thank you everyone. I will be heading to the airport at 7am and in San Diego for my surgery by 1030 am should be going into surgery by 2pm or so I will try and chime in when I am out
-
Ok so I spoke to my Dr to clarify some rumors I heard about his pain control procedures and he did indeed tell me he does not use narcotic pain killers after the bypass surgery. Has anyone here had the surgery and not needed them? Really worried about being in horrific amounts of pain
-
Oh I worked it out with him all is well and I will be receiving proper pain meds on Monday. Thanks everyone!
