    Balancing Act

BB how soon could you exercise post surgery? Walking is immediate but I know I will be counting the days until I can get back to the gym. Surg is Tuesday & I forgot to ask the surgeon on my preop visit. I just want a general idea re time.

    Sleep Apnea

Yes I go through periods of that kind of sleep. I know you're not supposed to but I take it off at that point & go back to sleep. If you are on ramp, try turning machine off & let it ramp up again & try to listen to the white noise of the machine & relax. Hopefully you will go back asleep. I've been on Cpap 16 years & will never be off of it. I lost 100 lbs to healthy bmi on my own a few years ago, had new sleep study & doc said OSA was not caused by weight (although that makes it worse) & I will always be on machine due to my head/neck anatomy. I hope that you will be able to come off quickly after surgery.

Everyone Cross Your Fingers For Me!

I have Cigna & they required only 3 months of NUT + a couple of more things. Google Cigna bariatric medical policy for more info. Hopefully your employer did not exclude this from their negotiated package. Keeping fingers crossed for you!

Hey, Need To Talk To You Guys

Diabetes affects the entire body's organs so the proteinuria could be associated with the diabetes affecting the kidneys. I would think this would be even more reason to have the surgery. Whatever is going on is in the early stage or may be false positive so don't let it consume your thoughts until you go back to the doc. When is your surgery?

    Thanksgiving With The Unthankful

Just tell them you are following your physician's plan. That is not a lie & is all they need to know. I was going to say that but my bf blabbed to anyone who would listen. Still mad about that. . .oh well . . No crying over spilled milk at this point

When Can I Go Back To Work

I'm planning for 4 weeks out. My doc recommends that amount of time to fully adjust to new lifestyle. I have to go to a 1 day seminar 9 days after surgery but will still be on liquids. I also will have to coordinate a work project due Dec 21 while I'm out. I have the sick time so I'm gonna use it plus I will get through Christmas too.

    November 2012 Members Post Op

My doc said He recommends 4 weeks but most people want to go back sooner. My surgery is 11/27 so if I take 4 weeks, I will be out through Christmas. I'm gonna take him up on that so I will be on soft foods when I go back. Job is very stressful anyway so won't miss that at all

Initial EKG showed history of inferior infarct - what?? Then it was determined to be bad lead placement & not a true problem. Big boobs can result in bad lead placement from what I learned.
  10. Asked about parents, childhood & then I had to do a questionnaire. Questions were silly to me. Some were trying to see if I had anorexia - obviously not! I do know of some that failed & needed more counseling but they eventually were ok'd after further visits & have had surgery.

What Made You Choose Rny Over The Sleeve?

My docs only do RNY or lapband. They won't do the sleeve due to higher risk of complicaitons like leakage. Even if they did sleeve, I would have opted for RNY because it can be undone if needed (not easily but possible). With the sleeve, most of your stomach is gone and the only revision they could do would be to take you to RNY. No surgery is perfect, you have to decide what is right for you. I agree with what kisersassy said and that was also a factor for me.

    Gastric Bypass Way More Dangerous...

My surgeon's group won't even perform the sleeve due to increased risk of complications & leakage. They just do bypass and lapband and prefer bypass if you're going to have WLS due to greater success. A woman in my support group went to another hospital and had the sleeve and they ended up taking out her spleen too because the dr nicked it during the surgery. Now she has to deal with life without a spleen and take extra precautions to prevent infections. She's lost 50 lbs after 3 months but has a complication that will always be a concern. Surgery is always a risk, you just have to decide which procedure is right for youi because you are the one who has to live with it.

    November Dates

Had my preop today. Had an EKG, chest X-ray, 10 tubes of blood for baseline labs. After all that, went to see the doc & he will write me out for 4 weeks (thru Christmas!!). No liquid diet but must be on low fat diet 2 weeks before. No gravy on the turkey!
