    Realization moment about my surgery

The first 18-24 months to develop good habits and a lifetime of maintenance - I’ve turned to FOOD as my friend and cohort -- the rest of my life is on me... and ME alone.
  3. I had the realization today that I've spent more time and determination on getting wls than I've ever spent dedicated to any diet plan in my life since age 13...

    Realization moment about my surgery

I know it's a tool and the stuff I've done (watching what I eat etc) is always going to be there - I'm not willing to fail this last resort I am willing to fail pizza, chicken wings & French fries

    pre-op testing?

Call your insurance company - I got a completely different answer - zero copay - zero deductible - no pre surgery requirements - so I beg to differ with the insurance company comment

    pre-op testing?

Must be 18 Must show 5 years of weighing in overweight catagory Must have 6 months of visiting your PCP Must show 6 months of visiting a Nutritionist and working on both diet and exercise OH OH OH - all these appointments below are in person - doesn’t calculate for travel time to the offices - copays - waiting time in the office - time away from work - time paying a babysitter - you can figure out how much I’ve put in so far THEN you can see a surgeon - who will ONLY schedule you after he gets a referral - and ONLY then can you get on his calendar - which takes weeks or months depending on the time of year then meet with a nurse for an hour a dietician for an hour your surgeon for an hour letter from the dr. (my regular dr) giving clearance 2 group sessions (which are held at night an hour away) (so TWO MONTHS - and TWO appointments) psych eval - 700 questions from a dr and an interview (scheduled FIVE hour exam) pulmonary eval - pulmonary function test - sleep apnea review - which can be up to 2 overnight sessions (3-5+ appointments with the pulmonary department) see the endoscope dr - schedule an endoscope (office visit and outpatient surgery which puts you out for 12-24 hours) blood work (fasting) gall bladder ultra sound (fasting) exercise physiologist (2 hours) ONLY IF IT’s ALL IN - then the paperwork goes off to the insurance company who has 30 days to respond - which doesn’t mean they will approve then - the paperwork lady calls you and sets up an appointment to: go back to the surgeons office to do a final check list for the surgery meet with your dietician buy your pre-surgery diet foods with the office start your two week supervised strict diet yah - I think that spells out my process... I really feel sorry for the people who complain about how many hoops THEY have to jump through - must be real hard.

every single office operates differently - and ultimately they want to make sure they get paid - since my dr has been doing these for a VERY long time - theres solice in knowing he’s got both me and HIM covered.

In my case it was the medical group that managed my hmo - i couldn’t even schedule an appointment with the surgeon until i showed detailed documentation of 6mo of dr appts and nutritionist - then and ONLY then could I apply for the ok to see the surgeon - get the referral - and schedule that - he was running out 6mo for an appointment then I met with him and the ton of pre-surgery referrals started - it’s been a trip... a very very very long trip

    Realization moment about my surgery

WEIRD. How come I have so much determination to get myself cut but couldn’t do it without a surgical solution - it’s kinda hard to come to terms about why can’t or didn’t I do this on my own - I’ve lost the same 100lbs (or a variation of that) at least 10 times and creeped back up by slipping into the same habits - one cookie can’t hurt right - next thing I know I’ve eating a whole box - I’m in awe that I can have such strength now - where was it the last 25 yrs.

Most of the preop stuff is very specific and needs to be ordered by your surgeon - or so I thought. Every referral I've had was good for one year so if I delayed my surgery till Feb of 2014 I'd be fine

    Sugar-Free Creamsicle Cake

I'm not even sure how I'll cook small enough! I don't do left overs either - unless it's something I reallt love - all part of my future past

What made you chose RNY rather than sleeve?

Wouldn't it be weird if you weren't totally scared

    Sugar-Free Creamsicle Cake

I heart you!!! My Dr. has ZERO carbs foods (Pasta rice potato STARCH STUFF) until your ok on all foods - so when folks post here their dietary stuff I’m a little jealous - but in a small family - I know if I made that cake - the kids wouldn’t eat it - the husband might have a bite - and it would taunt and torture me from the counter top... same goes with bread - i LOVE LOVE LOVE all breads - and I can’t have a little - I don’t even want to try it... I miss going to a big office and letting the vultures do their thing (i.e. brining stuff to work to get it out of my home). That whole never waste things comes from my Granny who lived in the depression - I have to get away from that.

    SLEEP APNEA VENT

    Sugar-Free Creamsicle Cake

some folks on here can have Beans and farina and oatmeal and potatoes and corn - even after I have total clearance some of those items are simply “not” recommended. everyone is different - eating the tiniest amount of cake would trigger me - just my humble opinion.

    SLEEP APNEA VENT

I REALLY didn’t sleep well - BUT - the tech said he got enough data - this lab makes you come back AGAIN to gage the pressure - which might make me jump off the edge having to do ONE MORE SLEEP TEST

    SLEEP APNEA VENT

I just had mine - now I wait for results - I know I don't have severe apnea - if I did they would have fitted me last night with a cpap.
