    Protein Intake & Weight Loss...

Hi KMarie! Great to meet you. I don't care for the vanilla. Haven't tried the strawberry, but I've never seen it in the store either. I get mine at Costco. So far Choc is the only one I take regularly. But, I have tried the GNC strawberry and I don't much care for it. My husband made shakes for us pre-op that I hope we can get back to soon. We used a protein isolate with almond milk and sometimes blueberries etc. I know we have to watch the fruit part now, but it was thicker and allowed for more variety. The water is the harder part for me. I start the day out fine, but forget as I get busy with things.

    Protein Intake & Weight Loss...

Gosh! I thought I was the only one with this problem. I am so frustrated every time I get on the scale and it hasn't changed or, just barely. Thanks for the comments. I had my surgery on 10/10. I went in at 214.5 and at my one week post op was the same! The doc said it was normal, but it sure doesn't seem normal to me. I too want to lose less than 100 lbs, so what you are saying makes sense. Add me to the zero club. The dietitian said something that made sense to me too..."your body has to be comfortable giving up the weight, so that is why the Protein is so important". I do 2 premiere shakes (30 mg each) per day and now get to also add in other Proteins. The Water is the hard part, but I work on it. Thanks for being in this with me!!

    Post Surgical Pain

That does seem unusual. I agree with the others. Just go to the ER. I have to wonder how your incision looks. Is it red, warm to the touch, oozing anything? Those are signs of infection. At ten days it should be healing. Was your procedure open or laporascopic? Either way....get it checked out.

    October Surgery Dates

Hi Everyone, This is a great group: Oct surgery dates! All the different comments from everyone's experiences is really helpful to me. I have been focusing on staying busy with doing things around the house that I have wanted to do but never have time for when I'm working. It helps with the huge change in lifestyle all this has created. Please don't stay away when things get difficult. We probably all have those times and it helps to share and learn from the sharing. My husband just got out of the hospital today. He's pretty unhappy. Missing food. I gave him the link to this website hoping it will be helpful.

    Sleeve Vs. Rny

I was going for the sleeve but after a discussion with my doctor, opted for the RNY. He asked me a couple of key questions: "Do you like sweets and baked goods?" (I do) and "Why do you want the sleeve?"(not so invasive). His thinking is that you can't get away with those things as easily with the RNY. Dumping sort of keeps you from going down that road and so the likelihood of permanent success is greater. The sleeve may work, but if not fully on top of it, it's easier to go back to old habits. I decided to be honest with myself and heeded his advice. So far so good.

    October Surgery Dates

I took the full four weeks and had to add another due to the logistics for follow up appointments. My husband is having his surgery tomorrow morning. I need the time to just get into the swing of taking care of myself in this new fashion! I either get all my protein in or all my water, but have yet to do both. Vitamins are a work in process!

    October Surgery Dates

My surgery was 10/10/12. Weighed in at 214.5 preop. I'm feeling really good. Not skinny yet and not sure how fast I will get there. At 206 this morning, 18 days out. Seems kind of slow going. Just trying to follow the program. No problems at all, thank goodness. Am trying to be be active. Glad I have your company on the journey.

    How Much Weight Loss

Thanks for the comments on this topic. I'm new to this group and had surgery on Oct 10. Every morning I get on the scale and am so disappointed that I'm still fat! Expected to see faster weight loss. But, then I make myself think rationally, and remember that it really is just math. Each lb. is 3200kcal. and so it doesn't really make sense for me to lose 10 lbs overnight. Still wish it would happen though! Thank goodness I can't go backwards...only forward. Regarding the choice to have the roux-en-y: I have been up and down with weight all my life. So much of my mindpower has been wasted on the the whole weight/food/eating thing, it's been exhausting. Life is short, and even shorter if you have medical problems...many of which can be corrected or prevented with one of the bariatric surgeries. Anyone that entertains the thought and actually goes for it has obviously gotten to the point where they just can't deal with it on their own anymore.
