Omg It Just Became Real! This Is Happening.
Dawn replied to Miris's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah today seems to be my freak out day! I have been so calm, relaxed and excited. Today I think I will try to stay busy because I am just really worried about failing even with this. I am guessing I just need a "hug". HaJones and I will be walking the halls together so that is making me a little less nervous since I will be in the hospital with no hubby/friends/family staying with me. Lisa is my surgery buddy too Surgery at 935am 26 Nov. Not worried anything will happen just the unknown and failing ...I think. -
My surgery is the 26th and I start a 5 day clear liquids with 3 days of protien shakes allowed. Sat & Sunday are "bowel prep" with no protien. I have my Preop on Wed and it is the same day as my 1st day of preop diet. I guess it will keep me too busy to care about eating? Especially since I will spend about 3 hours in the car that day going back and forth. The nerves have arrived today. I am trying to stay busy and distracted. The hubby and I are cleaning the house top to bottom and I am painting some projects for Christmas. I have never had ANY type of surgery before except my wisdom teeth so I think that is what is getting to me. In the meantime I have a knotted ball the size of a bowling ball in my gut from anxiety. The surgical process has been so easy for me to get through it is rediculous. I had my 1st appointment Oct 25th but I had already done all my bloodwork, xrays, and psych. I went to Nutrition on Oct 28th or so. I went to preop class and was submitted on 10/29 and approved on Nov 2nd. I already know my surgery is at 935 am on Nov 26th. Maybe I am just waiting for something to go wrong since it was so easy? I know that losing 5 lbs for me is a struggle so I can't even picture losing more than that. Or my nerves might just be shot? The only problem I have had is finding ways to make the protien taste better and finding one I can stand. I finally did that...What is my problem???? Anyone Else On Liquid Diet For Thanksgiving?
Dawn replied to hajones5891's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am having surgery on Nov 26th at 9:35am with Dr Freidman. Sounds like we will be hall buddies! Please keep in touch and feel free to share/ask anything. I found my protein drink today and I am feeling a little stupid about being so excited but after I had one that tasted like I licked cement I was on a mission! If you are still looking I recommend GNC's 25 lean shakes ( I tried french vanilla) really yummy it is on sale for a better price premixed right now than the powder it has 25 grams of protein and the calories and sugar aren't bad. I talked to some of my friends today about their post-surgery life. I was frankly a bit shocked. While one of my friends works out and has lost a ton of weight with the sleeve (works out A LOT) another of mine has started to regain on the sleeve, 1 of them has lost 60 lbs in 2 months since her bypass and another has dumping everyday because she still eats whatever she wants. Well hope to see you on the losing side. My preop appointment is the day before thanksgiving 21st and I start liquid diet then. I am having Thanksgiving tomorrow at a work potluck for the hubby then I won't feel like I missed out. -

My surgery date is the 26th too! I start liquid diet the day before Thanksgiving:) I have a plan and a state of mind! 1) I am staying out of the kitchen and high traffic food area, we are going to a friend so the family will be able to have the meal and I am traveling with popsicles, protien shakes, jello, and LOTS of broth. 2) I remember that if it wasn't Thanksgiving it would be Christmas, then Easter...ect... So this is a small sacrafice for the long term goals I have. 3) I am doing a potluck/replacement Thanksgiving on the 16th with some friends so I will not feel like I am missing out. Wishing us Both the best of luck and feel free to send me a message if you need support on my profile page we can be surgery buddies! -

The Closer It Gets, The More Nervous I Am...
Dawn replied to peachee213's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The closer my surgery gets the more impatient I get with the stupid petty stuff. Nerves are normal. Just find some good outlets...for example: research the parts that are making you worry, I wrote a letter to myself to remind me why I want the surgery and what I currently can't do, get your nails done (or do them yourself), whatever relaxes you do it! Right now is probably when you will be feeling the most "out of control" because it is in the Dr's hands, but once it is over YOU have the control over what you eat and how you let others make you feel. Surround yourself in positive influences (people & food) and get rid of the JUNK (people and food) that are going to hold you back! Best Wishes and Good Luck! I think your nerves are probably a great sign that you care about what is going to happen to you. Now all of this is just my opinion, but I am, have been, and will be in your shoes and this is what I would want someone to tell me My surgery date is Nov 26th. -
So excited my surgery is Nov 26th , pre-op on Nov 21. Can't wait to start this journey. My Journey... Highest weight 263-start of process-263-current 263 First Surgeon Visit: 10-25-2012 Pre-op Testing 10-21-2012 Submittal 10-30-12 Approved 11-1-2012 Surgery 11-26-2012

Hello everyone! I am 32 years old and 253 lbs and am 5'5". I finally reached the point where I just don't think I can lose 100+ lbs on my own. Even working out I feel like I have a fat suit on making me just want to give up. I barely ever saw more than a 5 lb change since I had my last baby 3 years ago. It is time for me to do something for me. I just didn't realize how hard it would be to get other peoples opinions not to matter. It seems like everyone has an opinion on what you should or shouldn't do. So, I have had my 1st appointment with my Dr. Dr Friedman was great. He had said any medical records from the last 6 months (blood/xrays/ekg's) could be used so we didn't have to redo them. I still had to have a new EKG and get about 15 vials of blood taken (felt like they owed me a cookie and oj!). I had already been cleared by PSYCH at Psychiatrics Associates. We set up my appointment with the Nutritionist for this Monday the 29th Oct. If I get an all clear from her they are going to submit me with whatever bloodwork is in within 2 weeks and I have a tenative surgery date of NOVEMBER 26th! I am more excited than nervous about the surgery being soon. It gives me 25 days before we leave to go visit family for xmas. I am hoping to be on pureed foods by then. I have done tons of research on food options, the procedure, and what to expect. I have never had surgery before, and I will be about an hour from home when I am in the hospital so I don't know who will be with me or how often. I am supposed to be out within 2-3 days. I have already started doing Zumba and Crossfit workouts now to get back in the mentality of working out. I am just hoping that my recovery with be relatively simple with no complications. One of my biggest struggles in the is whole thing has been OTHER PEOPLE. The "I think this is what you should do" crowd. I had a (gastric sleeve/lapband) and you should too. The "I heard about this person who..." telephone game. I even had to combat my hubby thinking "If you just do X amount more workouts". Luckily I came to the realization that they can get on board my "train of thought" or I am just going to run them over and move on. It was a hard tactic for me because I am pretty non-confrontational. I am convinced that I am making the right decision...FOR ME. As my Dad said to me " A new year, a new you." I think I am here under the "fat suit"...somewhere.
