  4. The pre-op diet weighs heavily on my mind too. That being said: in for a penny, in for a pound. What choice do I have? It is either commit to a lifestyle change by design, or die. (being dramatic is my speciality.) The way I figure it is this: I am going to be uncomfortable for at least two months, but what is that compared to a life time of being overweight? I find it interesting that most of you had this surgery covered by your insurance and you complain about the details such as a pre-op diet. I saved every last penny for this surgery ($14,400.00) and there is no complains from me just a lot of hope. I am going to follow all of your good advice. For those of you that were lucky enough to have had this covered by insurance- don't complain about ANYTHING just follow the program, and if you cant follow the pre op diet then maybe you should not have the surgery, because it is a life long commitment and all the doctor is asking of you is two little weeks.
  5. I am a self-pay, because I live in Canada, which means that I don't have to worry about insurance approval. What I am wondering has anyone been turned down by the WLS doctor? If so, what were the reasons? Any advice you can give to me to better my chances of success tomorrow? Thank you.
  6. Hi- I have been considering WLS for the past year. I have been overweight for about 10 years. Most of my weight gain has been caused by the hunger that has been driven by the medication I take. I don't have insurance, because in Canada it is difficult to get insurance. I have saved my money and now I am going to meet with my doctor. Overall I am healthy; no major illnesses, except for the Bipolar. My main depression is driven by my weight to be honest, so I REALLY want to get WLS. My fear is that because I am bipolar, I will be denied. We don't do psych consults here, but just the same...I am very nervous. I see this proceedure part of the solution to help get myself on track. But I am afraid to be let down. My question does anyone who has WLS also suffer from serious mental illness or bipolar, and did you have problems getting the WLS? Were the doctors concerned by your mental illness. As a side note for the most part I have been stable for the last year. Was anyone denied based on mental illness? I am very committed. I just need some feed back...and more importantly hope.
