I am feeling really good! Thanks Lola! I'm sure the BA shakes just bring back bad memories because I was so ready to leave the hospital and it was holding me back. My only adverse reaction to surgery was nausea. Once they were able to get that under control, I was able to start walking. Good luck this week, Lola! Try to start walking as soon as you can... It really does help with gas. I really wanted to fart so bad but couldn't! Ha! Tell the anesthesiologist that you are prone to motion sickness. They will give you lots of nausea meds. Didn't work for me, but I must be a wus! :0) feeling sore, but good 7 days out! Are you up to or row? I'll be praying for you!

I'm 35 and had RNY on Dec. 20. So far things are going good. One week post op. I am walking down tbe street and doing small things around the house. I find I'm super tired after anything that I do, but that's gotta be normal. My body is running a marathon inside trying to get this all healed up. Today has been great. Finally getting more Protein in. Hope all you other 30 something's are doing well!

My aunt and uncle were openly not supportive of my decision, but after I made it they jumped on board and remained supportive of me. I hate that you are going through this with your sister. It is her problem not yours. Stay strong. Anyone who thinks this is the easy way out is way uninformed! Congrats to you for taking control of your life. I bet jealousy is a big factor. She knows you are going to loose weight and get healthy. Congrats to you!! Stay strong! -
Good Luck! Congrats on your date.

Lovealways, I did the Optifast liquid diet for 2 weeks and did not cheat once. It became a contest with myself. I refused to cheat. I want the surgery to be successful, so I used the diet as a jumping off point. Weekends were harder because more free time, but I did it! I lost 22 pounds in 15 days! I weighed myself every morning and that was motivation to keep me honest. When you lose 7 pounds in the first 3 days, you want to stick to it. The chewing didnt bother me. What was a lifesaver for me was the Optifast diet was 4 shakes during the day and a powdered Soup for dinner. Having the soup to look forward to really helped. Good Luck!!

You've got age on your side. Being 30, there is a chance your skin still has a lot of elasticity and may bounce back. If it does sag, that can be something you may have to deal with later... But just think of the smaller, healthier you that will be dealing with it. When I requested dates off of work, I just said surgery. No one asked questions, so I did not have to answer them. I told a couple of folks at work, and I think that wound up backfiring, as I now think a lot more people know about the RNY. At this point though, I'm only concentrating on me and getting healthier! Good Luck!

Sounds fun! Let us know how it goes.

Congrats Nancy on beginning your journey! Hope you are healing nicely. I was trying to keep this a secret at work. I had only told the teachers on my team... However, you know how that goes. Word had gotten out. I'm okay with that. Good luck with everything!

snow25 replied to gagesdad's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Rest, drink lots of fluids, and hopefully you will feel better. I agree with the other folks, though, I do not think they will operate if you are sick! -
Your pre op diet doesn't sound too bad at all. I was prescribed shakes only for 2 weeks. No sf Jello, no food, nothing. You can do this! Your date will be here soon!!

and so it officially begins :)

Oh yeah! I was both nervous and excited at the beginning, then more frustrated by the end of 8 months of appointments. A little advice... Be careful what you tell the psychologist at the psych eval. I was very honest and he wanted me to see him once a week for 2 months before he cleared me. I went for 3 more visits, then told him I wanted him to submit all my paperwork. Another month of that would have been a crazy waste of time and money. I had to convince him to pass me through. That part was frustrating! Good Luck!!! -
please tell me any difficulties and if you retreat

I did not have a drain. It seems like the folks that had a drain had a harder time of it. I think it is important to remember that it is a huge deal and a major surgery. Your body will need a lot of time to heal. I've been fine emotionally. I felt very prepared for surgery, but it is hard to not feel normal. I am 7 days post op, not really pain, just soreness. My body definitely is a long way from feeling normal. I am very tired. Yesterday I took a 3 hour nap, woke up and it was dark out. It is not easy, but I have found everything to be very manageable. I had very real expectations about surgery, so I knew I would be sore and tired for awhile. I have not had that, "holy crap, why did I do this to myself?" moment. The more you can educate yourself about the realities of this surgery, the better you will be prepared for all that comes with it. I am 7 days post op and I have no regrets, just excitement about what the future holds for me! -
Good luck to all the rest of the December dates! I pray for a speedy recovery for everyone!

Seems like you are doing fantastic!
