bad left shoulder pain
brandottie01 replied to crazyace's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am still having shoulder pain and I was banded on 8/8. However, it is only at night so it is bearable. My incisions are itching like crazy!! They just took my strips up and it is driving me crazy. -
Jim, I didn't realize that was you! I sat next to you in class. Congrats on your loss.

I teach in Louisiana at a private school. I started back today and the students start back Friday.

What do you tell people at work
brandottie01 replied to ghostbuster's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I told people that I was having a hernia repair :girl_hug: Since I did have a hernia and did have it repaired it worked. So they understood the diet that I was on after the surgery and everything. I just told them that it hurt to swallow so I was taking it easy. Which was the truth... -
your welcome gayle. I find myself online at night trying to figure out if what I am feeling is normal. I do love this site and information that is on it.

Hope This Is The Right Place For This

I was also wondering about bacon.. I don't eat it often because it isn't too good for me with all the salt but I love to treat myself to it.. -
I'm five days post op and I still find myself sleeping more during the day than usual. I never nap and I have been needing one in the afternoon. I slept alot in the first few days but I find it is getting better. In fact my pastor came to visit and apparently I fell asleep in the middle of a conversation... Talk about embarassing..

Is this unusual? re: insurance approval
brandottie01 replied to MistyDTX's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
my office does the insurance approval while you are waiting on going to a seminar. Once you are approved they schedule you for a pre-op visit and you go to a class on the lap band from there. I was denied the same day I had to self pay so it is a blessing if you are approved by insurance. -
I didn't see this anywhere else. How long does it take after being banded for the swelling to subside? I was banded on Weds and have alot of swelling on one side of my stomach. I go back to work on weds. and am starting to get nervous about having pants that will fit and be comfortable.
-
I don't have any bruising. However, I do have big blisters all over my stomach. Apparently, I am now allergic to latex. So I had to switch tape for my gauze. It's kindda weird though I have never had a problem before..

I find that tomatoe soup is filling.
-
loratab is a painkiller.. Hydrocodone is the same thing.
-
By productive I mean giving me some sort of release of the pressure. I would have these little small burps that you couldn't even hear. Yesterday was the first day that I had big burps that relieved pressure.
-
I found that the two tablespoons of loratab was more than enough to fill me up. It was thicker than water. So I waited a while before I started sipping my water again. I would call the doctor if you are concerned. It doesn't hurt to ask them.

Pre Op Question - Needing Some Feedback Please
brandottie01 replied to AzGirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everyone is different. I was banded on Weds. and sometimes I feel good and other times I feel awful. I can get up and walk around. However, I can't bend over. I had someone keep my two year old through monday since I have difficulty getting up and down alot. I find once I'm up I can stay walking but the more I get up and down the worse the pain gets. Although, the pain really isn't all too bad and I am hoping to be without pain killers tommorow. -
Today was the first day that I had productive burps and only after walking for about 30 min. I was banded on 8/8. I also find that it is easier to burp after having a fudgesicle or soemthign in my stomach besides water.
-
Actually all that I have had is water, protein drink and two sugar free fudgesicles.. Is it ok that I am not hungry at all? Am I not eating enough?
-
Brenda, My doctor doesn't like us to use slimfast. He says there is alot of sugar in it and that it isn't good for you. Maybe you should try something else. I think they make a certian slimfast that is low sugar and low carb I am just not sure. You may want to try egg beaters for Breakfast instead. They are very low cal, high protein and filling. I even sprinkle low fat cheese on them.

picking up kids
brandottie01 replied to globetrotter's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
my doc says nothing over 5 lbs for 4 weeks and nothing over 20 for six weeks. I have a two and a half year old and just got banded yesterday. He is alreayd having to adjust to if he wants me he can sit by me and he has to walk everywhere. -
I was banded yesterday at 1. Everything was great with the exception that I had a hard time waking up from anestesia and was in pain so they gave me an injection of demerol. I've never had surgery or painkillers like that so I didn't know that I don't tolerate demerol. It knocked me out but not to the point of sleep and I was still in pain! But the wonderful nurse that I got after recovery gave me a steroid anti-inflamatory and within an hour was able to walk around. I have had some gas pains but find that the more I walk the better it is. I finally had my first good burp this morning and felt soooo much better. All in all it was no where near as bad as I thought and leaning back in a recliner is the only way I can sleep and get up and down easily. I also had a significant hiadal hernia repair and it doesn't even bother me!

Help My husband is forcing me to eat.
brandottie01 replied to sarabluebell's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have a husband who is very similar. He goes to both spectrums. IF he doesn't think that I am eating enough he will comment on it. If he doesn't think that I need to eat something then he will comment on that too. Now he knows better than to think he can force me to eat but he also knows that sometimes I do need someone to remind me that I shouldn't eat something. I think he will have a hard time after I am banded because he has always tried to make sure I don't do some drastic dieting that could be harmful. I plan on measuring my food with him to show him how much I should eat. I know he is just concerned about my health either way. I do find that with my husband visuals help so maybe you could measure your food to show him how much you are supposed to eat and that you are consuming plenty of calories. I am hoping to not teach my son to eat as much as I do so I think the band will be a good thing.
