  1. Good luck today Want2B! You will do great!!! Get lots of sleep tonight so that means take your medications!!
  2. I read somewhere on this board moons ago that papaya enzyme can help with a PB. I have a tin of chewables that I will give a go when this happens to me. Got them at GNC. Don't know if it is going to work for me yet or not but I'm willing to try it! I think it's a good idea to have a large cup in the car.... thanks!!!

This is a big, hairy whine!

I think everyone is worried about loosing enough - but it is really to make your liver easy to work with like already mentioned. You are going to do fine!! 16 pounds is great!!! I *only* lost 12 or so on my pre-op diet and I have to remind myself that it is a great accomplishment!
  4. I'm going to use Bio-Oil on mine. I'm pretty realistic that *I* will probably always see them, but others may not. Battle scars are not a bad thing!
  5. I was just banded last Wednesday and they let me wear a fresh tampon before I was wheeled in. Just tell the nurse that is helping you pre-op. There has been a variety of threads about this issue and every hospital has a different opinion and protocol. Good luck and wishing you a very speedy recovery!!!
  6. Anita - Glad your port is back up and running with no duct tape! Marcy - What a beautiful new rock! You look great my dear!! Marilyn - Congrats on your fill!! I too am nervous for my first off in the distance but I will remember what you said. Want2B - Thinking of you today - you will do GREAT! Stephaniez - Let us know how your hubby is doing. He is lucky that you know exactly what to expect and you will take great care of him. My DH tried so hard but every little noise, he was saying "What's wrong???". I tried to prepare him as much as possible! I'm so bummed for 2 reasons.... 1. I'm missing the excellent weather in Colorado this week and 2. I can't meet you all for dinner tonight. Nuts.
  7. Woofay - Good luck!! :clap2: Want2B - Good luck on Tuesday! :biggrin1: I know you are prepared! Take your pain meds... don't try to be a hero! Honestly the part I was worried about the most was the IV but the staff at Crown Point is amazing! Walk a lot but stop and rest when you need to. I think that has helped me sooo much! I got in a lot of walking at the Denver Zoo! Lap_dancer - Those pictures are fun! Looks like everyone had a good time. I'm so glad you have a new "sister"! Sometimes family you get to pick is the best, right? Tina - I wanted to say that the liquid under the clear dressings is kinda yucky, but I have 3 that have dried up already. It is normal!!! Honest!! Dr. K said they were looking great. Don't look at them if you don't want to, but maybe DH will just peek once a day just to make sure they aren't infected. I know my port incision will be the last to dry up, that one is pretty liquidy, but it will be absorbed when it is ready. Glad to hear that you are getting back to "Tina" because you are off the clears. I was getting pretty tired of the Isopure drinks myself, but I think getting a lot of protein was a key. Last night after we got home from the airport, I cracked open my carton of creamy potato leek soup and I was in heaven! Oh and I had a can of tomato juice on the plane and I knew I was on a roll! :bounce:

    Banded 5th september

Hey Toots!!! I was banded on the 5th as well. I'm sorry you had to go back in for some TLC.... I'm glad to hear you are doing much better now!
  9. Andrea, Welcome!! If I can give you any advice, start a simple walking program now if you aren't already. When the surgery comes and goes, the walking helps sooo much in your recovery! It will be a snap for you if you're already used to it! You will find tons of support on this site!

    new from new jersey

Welcome!! The lap-band is a tool and if you work the bandster rules, you will be successful! I was just banded on Wednesday and I know this is the best decision I have ever made for my health. I would suggest going to a seminar at a clinic near you, but you don't have to commit to using the doctor at all. I didn't have insurance approval, I went self-pay. I can't give you any advice there, but you can call them and see if they cover weight loss surgery. If they do they will probably require a BMI of at least 40 or 35 with current health issues. You might also have to follow a supervised diet for 6 months or so... some want a year. Good luck! Look around here - you will find tons of support!!

    How soon back to work?

I was banded last Wednesday and I will be going back to work on Monday. I do have a desk job. My surgery was not in my hometown so I traveled by plane for 3.5 hours yesterday and I was fine. The day I was most sore was the day after the surgery. Everyday has gotten a bit better since.
  12. Hi everyone!! I'm back home in Tampa! I miss Colorado so much - we absolutely fell in love with the state. I grew up in Arizona so it felt like home to me. DH had never been "out west" before! I'm still doing well - the only time I'm using the painkillers is at night to make sure that I'm getting some uninterrupted sleep. During the day, I'm fine, just a little sore if I don't sit up straight. Tina - how are you doing??

    Length of surgery

I was just banded on Wednesday and mine was 78 minutes. My doctor says he averages about 1 hour, 15 minutes.
  14. Happy Anniversary Marcy! I'm still doing well today - more sore than yesterday but that is part of the healing process. I'd like to get my hands on some full liquids soon, but that is this weekend and I will survive until then!
  15. Thank you all for telling me that I was in the right place!! I knew I going to feel silly for asking! My aunt is a nurse and works in a surgery center like that, but it completely freestanding and not connected to a hospital. That confused me so thank you for humoring my concern! LOL The entire staff there was amazing and of course, Dr. K is my favorite!
  16. Yay I'm done!!! I'm feeling great, have already been out and about. The sore throat is the worst part of this whole thing. I have only taken one shot of meds, don't really feel like I need them, but I will take some more before I go to bed. I've been getting down a lot of liquids and the Isopure. Lap_dancer is soooo right - the strawberry-kiwi propel is the bestest! Thank you everyone for the good thoughts!!! I wanted to let you all know that I'm doing great! I was more tense at the beginning of the week, now I feel like I can just relax!!! Tina - I saw them bring you into recovery!! You looked like you were doing great my dear! How is my bandster twin doing?? Want2be - Replying to your question about your pre-op diet. YES, it is very very normal to feel junky at the beginning of the diet. I had bad headaches on day 3 and 4, I know it was from sugar withdrawls. After that, I was feeling much better.
  17. Hi all! We got to Denver safely late Sunday night. Yesterday we spent up in Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park. It was amazing!! I have my pre-op with Dr. K this afternoon. Hopefully I will be well enough to check in with you all tomorrow. That is probably the only thing I'm concerned about, feeling crappy afterwards. Jennifer - So sorry to hear about your news sweetie. Hang in there - bigh hugs! want2be- I'm at the Holiday Inn. I actually used my AAA card, they said it would be better than a medical rate, and possibly a better room. When I called, I asked for a regular king room and that I would need a refrigerator for medical purposes. They said they would put a portable one in the room. When we came up to the room Sunday night, we had a refrigerator alright - we got a king suite for the same price as the standard room. $90. The Hampton Inn was not helpful to me at all. Good luck!! BTW - can anyone tell me where the surgery center is???? I see a hospital (Parker Adventist) right across from me but I really didn't think that was the right place. Maybe I'm a huge dumbo... I'm afraid I don't know where to go tomorrow! LOL
  18. Happy Sunday everyone! We're flying to Colorado tonight! I can't believe it is time already. I'll be in Dr. K's office on Tuesday afternoon. Gotta go finish packing!

Scared to fly! Tampa to Mexico

It will be a day of traveling for you. I'm in Tampa too! Rejoice in the fact that this will probably the last trip you have to squeeze into an airplane seat!
  20. Oh Dynamo! Thank goodness you were home or you could have come home to TONS o' fun!! We're all dying to know how your date went!!!

Mexico versus US for cash patients

I was considering Mexico but I found Dr. Kirshenbaum instead! The care you get in Mexico has been great for all the people I know that went there. For me, it wasn't the right choice. Dr. K is at least half of what I would pay if I stayed in my area with self-pay.

    Banded on 8/22

Have you looked into the Isopure drinks in the glass bottles? One bottle has 40 grams of protein and they come in different fruit flavors. I've seen them at GNC, Vitamin Shoppe, those kind of places.

Congrats to you both!!! Wishing you a speedy recovery! Welcome to LBT!
  24. Michelle - thanks for posting that article!!! Makes sense to me!
  25. :grouphug: Lap_dancer.... you did nothing wrong. I'm sorry you feel so betrayed. I would too. Your feelings are yours and they exist for a reason. It's not like you just decided to feel this way, they are a direct result of what has happened in the past. If you feel it is best to distance yourself from them, at least for the short term, then I would. It sounds like you have a wonderful support system right at home and everyone else that isn't helping you, needs to get out of the way! We are here to support you too!
