Reality Setting In
Nicolebloves replied to Nicolebloves's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

This week I met with my PA and Nutrionist. It went better than expected as I was so darn nervous; they both were great! The PA said I should fly through my checklist the hospital requires with no problem which is really good to hear. So now I start cutting back calories to lose my 5% (at minimum) that the surgeon requires before surgery. The nutritionist wants me to eat about 1600 calories a day, aiming at 75-80 grams Protein. I know this is the first steps to this whole process and it's setting in and I couldn't be happier with my choice! One question I have is what happens when I lose my 5% and go through all the hosipital requirements and they then go to insurance for clearance. If my insurance requires any pre-surgery diet (which I think mine requests 6 months) can the hosiptal/surgeon override this? Or will the hospital come back and say that I HAVE to complete a 6 month diet before getting a surgery date?

First Appointment...
Nicolebloves replied to Nicolebloves's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That makes sense! I just wasn't sure if there was some sort of testing they did that required you to have both appointments ont he same morning. It works for me :-) Thanks! -

Tomorrow I start my journey and its day 1 of 2 of seminars. Then in a few weeks on November 27th I have my first real appointment. My question is that on this day I am meeting with the PA first in the morning and then an hour later the nutritionist. Is there a reason to why I need to see both the same day and an hour apart from one another? Figured it was testing of some sorts but just curious if anyone else had to do this?

Seminar Before Surgery?
Nicolebloves replied to wonderwoman75's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am actually going to my first seminar tomorrow. When I called the hospital to inquire about surgery, this was the first step. I have to go to TWO 3 hour seminars this week. 3-5 tomorrow and Thursday. Then my next appointment after that is scheduled for November 27th where I meet with the PA and the nutritionist..... i'm really excited that tomorrow starts my first steps towards surgery :-) -

I'm happy to say I'm on my way! Today I was able to make my first round of appointments from a VERY helpful person at the Bariatric Center of my hospital. I spoke to someone briefly the other day and she was beyond no help and fairly rude. I have scheduled between now and January 2nd.... 2 educational seminar "classes" on Bariatric Surgery (required by my hospital) followed by 2 appointments one morning with the PA first than an hour later with the Nutrionist and finally an appointment with the Dietician. I'm really looking forward to learning more and getting this process started!

1St Round Of Appts. Check!
Nicolebloves replied to A Rose's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Awesome! I just made my first set of appointments today! I need to take 2 education classes at the hospital first on Bariatric Surgery, then I have scheduled 2 appointments for one morning, one with the PA and one with the Nutritionist. Then a month later an appointment scheduled with the Dietician. I'm happy to get things moving! Good luck to you! -
Hi everyone, I'm new around here, nice to "meet" you! I am just starting my journey. I've been doing a lot of research past few weeks and about to make my first appointment and take it form there! From what I've read, my insurance, Highmark BCBS (NY) does require the 6 month diet. Has anyone had this expierence with this insurance company? good/bad? As of right now my BMI is about 55 and I know at my weight i'll more than likely need to lose at least 10% before any surgery. Thanks for any info you can supply!
