December 2012 Post Op Group
OleHippieGal replied to Simplysouthern26's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can only drink the lactase milk and I use the fat free kind with my injury chocolate splendor love it. I even bought some extract flavorings to use. Almond and mint and coconut. It's so good. Love the injury chicken broth. Of course this could all change after surgery but hope not. Have to do my breathing exercises and it's so cold outside right now can't go walking. This is going to be a long week I know it. But have alot of stuff to do before surgery. Get all the Christmas stuff down. Change linens on my bed clean my bathroom. Get all clothes washed up. Go to store one more time to find liquid Tylenol and gas x. All I say is Jesus take my hand and guide me please -
Just want to bang my head against the wall...

I wont get my menu till my 2 week check up. but for now all I know is that it says my first 2 weeks are for water, protein shakes, tea, crystal light, broth, nothing to cold or hot, i can have SF jello and popsicles. then they will give me my puree menu,, from what web sites I have seen and from reading weight loss surgery for dummies, all the reccomendations are the same no solid or puree food for first 2 weeks. Maybe instead of white potatoe which is mostly starch/sugar, they mean sweet potatoe, who knows. but I for one wont eat mash potatoes and gravy 4 days after surgery, but good luck -

This is reality, I understand cravings just like all of you, and I am a southern gal who loves all those comfort foods like the rest of you. but I want to succeed. my doc said only liquids till my 2 week check up, then i can do puree foods. I intend to stick to that because I never ever want to be the fattest in the room. I dont want ppl to look at me with disgust in their eyes on OMG look at how fat she is, ot she has such a pretty face if only she would lose weight. if my cravings go away and I am not around those types of food, potatoes and mac and cheese gravies, cream stuff, if I can go 6 months with out I dont ever want it, those are the the foods that made me fat to start with. there are healthier choices, like spagetti. you can use whole wheat pasta. hunts tomatoe sauce is a good choice they dont use sugar. Do I know its going to be hard, yes I do. I think the reason for this thread is because if you read other threads from people and they arent following the guide lines, its 2 weeks of liquid, not 3 days after surgery do you start eating mash potatoes and gravy, whether the pouch tolerated it or not. how will you succeed? no one is trying to be negative, we are all in this together, and we are here to help each other whether its good job or, what were you thinking. I am 56 yrs old. possibly the oldest on this forum. when I was 44 I was told I was type 2 diabetic, I was pissed, because here i was a grown person and they were telling me what i could not eat anymore, believe me I was just sick. I had to learn what and when to eat. I have a huge sweet tooth, an begging my dentist to pull it, he couldnt find it lol. It is so hard, yes I cheated alot. but I wont this time, because I am having a major surgery to get a tool to help me, so i can be healthier, and look alot better then the fat slob i became. -
Not sure after surgery, mine isnt till the 31st, started preop diet today with the shakes, I like the unjury, but tried the sample of the BA, was too thick even added more lactaid milk to it, still thick, has a strong smell. glad it was only a sample.

haha maybe I will

Just got back from walmart, got everything ready for this pre diet before surgery the 31st, got my unjury unflavored, chicken broth, and chocolate, bought all types of crystal light flavors, and alot of decaffeinated lipton tea, i have plenty of splenda, and truvia, bought a package of lean beef that has 4 slices in it. bought some frozen plain broccoli and cauliflower, and a microwave steamer, got my beef and turkey jerky. I am prepared. oh yea got the meds the surgeon prescribed for after surgery, got some benadryl cream for the itching everyone talks about. got that crappy grape flavored magnesium citrate for the day before surgery and an extra bottle in case a week after I cant poop. bought 2 lean cuisines that i could find that didnt have pasta in it. I think I am ready, just wonder if i can get them to give me a xanax for my nerves haha, plz jesus dont let me puke.
-
yes but good luck, I start my pre op diet Monday the 24th, my surgery is the 31st, shake for break fast, shake for lunch, and some sort of a lean cuisine or smart one or a healthy choice for dinner, you can also grill you a chicken breast or lean cut of beef, have salad, or raw veggies, inbetween meals 1 to 2 times daily 1/2 cup of cottage cheese, 1 or 2 ozs of some type of Jerky,, low fat string cheese, no sugar, no white bread, no Pasta, no potatoes, no corn ect, due to starch and carbs. I think all of this is still really good, you wont starve, and still can chew something

Paying your portion of the bill...,
OleHippieGal replied to pookybear's topic in Insurance & Financing
yes first your PCP should have your 5 year weight loss if you been going to the same one, UHC doesnt make you go 6 months diet, at least they didnt make me, it wasnt required. I did have to have the psych, evaluation to make sure I was prepared, the blood test that the surgeon orders should have your thyroid test included cause you do have to have it done. UHC is paying 80 % of mine, but yes I had to pay my co pay up front, it cost me $520.00 for surgeon, $75.00 for a year of nutrional counseling, $180.00 for anthesiologist, $1,341.00 for hospital. I had to pay for all this at my pre op visit. -
doc told the group i was in for 2 weeks nothing real cold like from freezer or anything real hot. but after 2 weeks you can have SF popsicles. a popsicle is frozen water with flavoring. it may not hurt, but becareful with them

Yes I suppose if I were in my 30 and looking good again I would be hanging with a sex machine too . Lol

I would rather exercise or go swimming

ask your doc what he thinks about you eating mash potatoes and cheese not sure they will be very happy with that choice, unless its sweet potatoe but either way there is dumping something that should not happen -

I have United healthy care, and i have gotten 2 calls today for my payment portions to be paid before surgery which is Dec 31st, but go for pre op visit tomorrow and have to have payments to them tomorrow. for the surgeon, my part, $520.00 for 1 year of counseling with Nutrionist/dietician - $75.00 Hospital with 1 night over stay - #1,341.00 Anthesiologist - $180.00 total for all $2116.00 does this sound right to yall. They never gave me the complete total for whole thing, this is after what insurance will pay and they havent been billed yet. makes me just a tad nervous but ok

Where do you buy you plus size clothes
OleHippieGal replied to OleHippieGal's topic in The Gals' Room
Thanks but not at all interested in the plus size clothes hope to be giving all of mine away in the few coming months. But thank you. Cato s ok but I was really looking for sweats and stuff for just the first few months till it really gets noticeable. I don't planon buying anything nice for at least 6 months. By then hopefully I will be down 60 lbs and ready to explore new jobs. Start school in January I want to be a nail tech and all that it implies. Takes 4 months and all that time I will be wearing smocks and scrubs at school. Can't wait! -
I know i have made the right choice for me

Here it is as close to the nutshell I can get. I started gaining weight when I was 27. I was never rail thin but was thin. When I got pregnant with my son I was 25 124 lbs 5'9. At delivery 170. Lost down to 145. . Bad marriage divorce another bad marriage divorce. Stared gaining with 2nd marriage got close to 200 lbs stayed around 200 for about 7 yrs added more weight. Met 3rd hubs. Weighed 268. Highest weight 305. Still married 13 yrs later. When I met him he was around 350. 6'3. He has been big all his life since age 5 his mother the enabler. Ruined him for life. He is 47 weighs between 430 to 480 . I decide to have surgery I am 56. Is he excited for me No but he is like ok about it. I have never ever approached him about the surgery he doesn't even ask me about it. Think he is afraid too. His parents are also ok with it hoping maybe their son might decide to do something if not surgery to challenge me. I feel so sad for him that he doesn't even try or want to do anything. I asked him once don't you want to know how it feels to be just normal? He said how would I know I was. I am sure he is afraid of the extra skin because he would have alot. It's mostly all belly. And I know if he lost the weight his parents would pay for a body lift. But do you think just maybe if he sees what I am doing and I am successful he could possibly want to make a change? I sure don't know. Seems the less I eat the more he does. My surgery s the 31st he is going with me to my preop to see my surgeon on the 20th lets see how that goes -

Just got my totals of what part is to pay
OleHippieGal replied to OleHippieGal's topic in Insurance & Financing
Yes I called her at the office, and she said yes the totals seemed correct. they go by surgery codes, i am suppose to have surgery the 31st and go home on the first, they dont think any complications could arise. I am very nervous right now wonder if something happens and I do have to stay longer. I even asked what if i have to have my gall bladder taken out too. they said so it gets taken out you still go home the next day. that is how confidant this office is of the surgeon. I hope he is as good as they make him -

OleHippieGal replied to OleHippieGal's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
its all good, trust me i am so independent i never once asked him about me having the surgery, I honestly dont care what he thinks or feels about it. its my health and my life. luckily for me we may eat 1 meal every 3 months with each other and that is when we go out to eat with his parents. so there is no harm in the eating in front of each other. even when i cook and yell its ready, he comes upstairs fixes his plate and back to the man cave he goes. lol usually with most of the food i prepared, except for vegetable. lol so I am all good, Like I said I dont ask him if he would want to do it. I dont bring it up. but I also told him, and its harsh, if you get diabetes, and his parents and I both think he does but wont admit it. I told him if he becomes wheelchair bound into the nursing home he goes because no way I would be able to lift him to get on the toliet or help change his clothes or bathe him. thats why i married a younger man, I just really thought he had more pride in himself then he does, boy was I wrong. -
