Hello! I amnalso I Durban and woukd be more than willing to help you with any information that I can. On 27.11.2013 I will be 1 year post op. Its the best decision I ever made Ive had RNY. My resukts are ohenomenal! I wouldn't like to be seen as advertising on the forums, but I'll gladly give you the name of of surgeon who from my research came out at the experts in the field. If you reply with your email address ill mail you the details.

I know that it is normal to not be hungry post RNY. I am 10 days out. Up to today, if been managing to eat, even though I am not hungry. I set alarms to remind me to eat. But today has been a very different day. I simply have not been able to eat today. One teaspoon and I want to vomit. I am not feeling sick and nauseous, it's just that I can't bare to eat a thing I am so full. Is it OK to have the days? My total calories today were 97 cals. I am taking all my vitamins.

Thanks. That's very helpful

My dream seems to becoming a reality. It looks like I will have my surgery before the end of November 2012. This confirms for me that its no longer a dream, but a reality, and now I have such mixed emotions. I am so excited, yet I am also scared. I know I'm ready, and I know I want and need this gift and I know I'm in this for the long haul, and ere is no turning back, but for some reason I am scared. My head just can seem to comprehend the tiny amounts of food that I will be eating! I have researched all the options extensively, so I know RNY is the right choice for me, and my surgeon agrees. Is it normal to be scared?

My pre op diet is 1 week mushies, 4 days full liquids and 3 days Clear Liquids. I'm nervous for the clear liquid part. LOL.
-
Thanks Vicky. I will be working with my therapists so I have professional support to help me deal with all the emotions. I'm so excited. How are you managing with the pre op diet I'm so worried about the broth part. How will I survive!

I am almost certain that I want to follow the RNY option, but reading about the nutritional deficiencies does scare me a little. How much research did you do before deciding on RNY, and why did you choose it as opposed to the other options. Has anyone had a bad experience with the RNY?

Thanks Carieka. Will accept when I get home. I'm currently in Turkey.
-
Do you have BBM? My pin is 28F66939. I am still prep. Documents have been sent to medical aid. And I'm waiting their answer.
-
Hi Carike. I'm also from SA. I'd love to chat to you. Where are you in your process?
-
I am through with all my tests and am now waiting approval from my insurance. While I know that this is what i want and need, there is a little part of me that is terrified. I'd like to know if any of you have had complications, and also how you've dealt with the pshycological aspect of this surgery. If you could do it over again, would you?

My documents have been submitted to insurance. So excited but very nervous. They have asked for 2 more reports, which will be submitted on Monday, and then when those are received by them, they will give me an answer within 48 hours. I can hardly breathe I am so afraid the answer is goi g to be no. I don't know how. Will cope if they say no. Please send loads of positive energy this way and pray for a yes. Thanks everyone.

Fortune, have you tried the Unitas hospital. They also have a bariatric centre of excellence.
-
Hi Fortune. I am from Durban. I contacted the bariatric team at St Augustine's Hospital.
-
Thanks Vicky. So happy you are approved.
-
Woohoo. Congrats. Very happy for you.

Hello everyone. I've read dozens of books on RNY but one thing that's not very clear is the pain that can be expected post op. My surgeon is about to submit to insurance, so my date could be looming soon. ( Yay Yay yay!!!). I would love for you all to give me your honest feedback on what your experience was regarding the pain level. I'm hoping to return to work 1 week post op. am I being optimistic?

Thank you all for your feedback. I'm growing impatient with the pro op process. I want and need to start my new life ASAP. -
It's days like today that make me wonder how I'm ever going to cope with a pouch. I've been hungry (?head hunger) beyond belief today, and have eaten anything and everything in sight. I am pre op, so need to know that pat op I won't have the uncontrollable hunger. I'm so sick of eating for who knows what reason.

I was wondering how medication is taken post operatively. I understand. Have to take chewable multivitamins, but what happens if I get sick and need an antibiotic, or if I have a headache?
