How long was your surgery?
dmkar replied to DanaMomto3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My dr told my husband & I that it would take 2.5 hrs, they were also taking my gallbladder. When I finally really talked to my husband, he said it was almost 4 and the tracking board at the hospital never changed me to the recovery room. He said he was starting to get really worried when they finally called to tell him I was in my room. Here they found 2 hernias and repaired them as well. -
April 2013 Post-Op Group

Surgery was Monday. So far so good but still having a lot of gas pain. What have others found helpful for that? They also found two hernias and repaired them so I have a bit more pain than expected, but doing ok. Protein shakes, water & broths are going down fine. Might try going to my daughters ball practice tonight & walk around the field (walking through the house is getting pretty boring) HW 258 SW 249 GOAL 135 -
On my way to the hospital now. I feel like a big ball of nerves!

Had my apt with the surgeon today. He walked in and said "How does Monday sound?" Spent the rest of the day getting all the pre-op tests & labs done. I am so psyched. I seriously still in shock. So 4-22-13 is my big day! WooHoo!

Just got my date today and its...April 22 too! I am so excited that I have been bouncing off the walls this afternoon. Sent from my iPad using RNYTalk

Has anyone else had horrible gall bladder attacks 4-6 wks prior to their surgery date? We're you able to hold off so you only had to have surgery one time? My clinic does a routine check of everyone's gall bladder prior to surgery and if there are any issues then they remove it during surgery as well. I had my ultrasound on my gall bladder this past Tuesday then before I even got the results back, I had two attacks last night (first time ever). The er dr got a copy of my ultrasound report & my gall bladder is enlarged & full of stones. I'm now getting ready to go to my pcp praying they can give me something to "hold me over" til my surgery date. Urgh, the pain!

Because of the high rate of GB issues with RNY that's why my clinic does an ultrasound prior and then if there are any possible issues they take it at the same time they do the RNY. I just got back from my pcp & more labs were ordered cause of high liver values. Then she is going to talk with the surgeons to see about the possibility of moving up my RNY since I am at the end of my pre op appointments so I don't have to have two separate surgeries and so it won't set the RNY back. Need all the prayers I can get right now!

Geisinger Health Plan. I am having my surgery at Geisinger Medical Center in PA

I have done weight watchers & I am currently using my fitness pal. Which seems to be working well. I just wish I didn't have to wait so long...I have never been good at waiting. Lol

I wish it were sooner rather than later. I have to do a six month program so I will not be having my surgery until some time in April. I know everyone says that the time goes fast but I am so ready & can't stand having to wait. Sent from my iPad using RNYTalk

I have known several people who have gone through this process. Some have had bad experiences & others have had wonderful experiences. I know for me personally, I am doing this for me and my children. I will be 40 in Feb and I have some much pain that you would think I was about 90. I can barely walk half the time because of pain in my feet, knees & back and the rest of the time I am too tired to do anything. I am sick of the way I feel all the time and hate not being able to play or do things with my 5 kids. I am scared about the whole process, but I am terrified about not being able to be around to see my children graduate high school or college or ever being able to meet any of my grandchildren. I do consider myself lucky in a sense because one of the nutritionists is the sister of one of my coworkers and I have complete faith & trust in her and I am able to feel at ease with her. I started out at 258 and have lost 11lbs since my pcp made the referral on 9/28. I just have to keep focused on the ultimate goal...a healthier me! Sent from my iPad using RNYTalk

Informational Seminar...? Newbie Here! :)
dmkar replied to toothfairy's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
With my ins, I didn't have to do an inso seminar but I have to go through a 6 month program. I had my first apt last week and there are various steps I have to do/go through each month. I also have to loose 10% (25lbs). I have lost 8 since the 4th. I pray i can keep it up. The weekends are my hardest when I'm with my kids & we are running all over the place. I also have fibromyalgia, a bad back & a bad knee so exercising is really tough. II am really hoping to have my surgery at the beginning of April. -
Your story is very touching and shows us all just how precious life is. Welcome to a truly amazing group of people who are her for support!

dmkar replied to number 7's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Congrats! Keep everyone posted on your progress. -
Had my first apt today & I think it went pretty well. I go back November 8th for a nutrition class & an apt with one of the Doc's. I need to loose 25lbs prior to surgery. Wish me luck!

I had already gotten the myfitnesspal app but had not been real consistent in logging everything. I am now being much more diligent in logging everything that goes in my mouth. Thanks for the info on the shakes! Gonna get some next time I go for groceries.
