Diet Thoughts?
amcdowell779 replied to Lovelycurves's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm am pre op right now and doing high protein/ low carb and sticking to 1200 calories a day and trying to exercise 30 minutes a day also. No one is dieting with me either which makes it hard but we can do it together. Eggs are high in cals so I eat egg whites. Low fat cheeses, including cottage cheese are good sources of protein. I drink low calorie high protein shakes by EAS (whey) called AdvantEdge low carb whey protein shakes. They don't taste the best but I use them for a meal or part of a meal ( meals should be around 500 cals if no snacks) or as a snack. I also just bought whey protein powder because it's way cheaper than the drinks so I'll start making my own shakes. Just like other people said, eat meats (like chicken turkey and fish) then non starchy veggies. I stay away from fruit all together on a low carb diet and also avoid breads pastas and rices all together. But if that's too hard eat fruit like watermelon or cantelope and eat whole grains if you have to. Another thing that's totally helping me is myfitnesspal.com. It's a calorie and exercise tracker and a lot of people from here are on it. My username is amcdowell779. You should join if you haven't already it's an awesome app and everyone's so supportive!! -
One day at a time is my motto also!! Today I will eat right and I will exercise. :-)

Ways To Pass The Time?
amcdowell779 replied to honeydue29's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Exercise is a great way to stay busy but you can't do that ALL the time. I've found a lot of books online about wls and I'm sure you can find them at your bookstores like Barnes and Noble. I've also been staying really busy on this and another forum and myfitnesspal.com. I was told to start taking my meds now like I would after the surgery and start a high protein low carb diet. I'm also staying more busy these days by doing more stuff rather than sitting around like cleaning more, organizing, taking my two year old to the park and out for walks. Immerse yourself in everything you can right now that has to do with wls. Learn as much as possible but remember to always go by what the doctor says. I didn't listen to the dietician and now I'm waiting on my appointment for another month because I didn't start losing my weight like I was instructed to do. I listened to some others that said it might be too early and to wait so I did. Now I have one month to lose 17 lbs to have my info submitted to insurance for my approval. Pinterest always has millions of things you could do on there if you like to cook or if you are crafty!! Good luck!! -
Welcome A Rose!! This is an awesome site. You can find lots of info here and everyone's very supportive. Where are you having your surgery? I am going to Unity in Fridley, but I don't have my date yet so I'm pretty new to all of this too. Just waiting for one more appointment in October to get my date! Feel free to ask ask anything that's what we're all here for.

Well I'm glad I'm learning what I am. Now just to get my impulsive eating under control. I added you on fb. My email is amcdowell779@yahoo.com. Are you on myfitnesspal.com? I just joined that like a week or two ago and really like it compared to the last one I was using. My username on there is amcdowell779. I put myself down to a 1200 cal diet today and for the last two weeks before I see the Psych again I am doing a liquid diet. I just want to show my husband and parents I can lose the weight. I always give up and that's what I'm so afraid of doing after surgery. I'm just going to look at this as one day at a time. That will help me stay focused. I love Unity so far I'm really happy I went there. Where are you in MN then if you went to Unity? I'm in North Branch which is about 45 minutes north of the cities.

I am going to have surgery at Unity. If you did, could you please fill me in on everything. I'm on my last psych appt then everything will be submitted to insurance. What happens then?? How long of a wait until surgery? I am going with Dr. Johnson. Who was your surgeon? I have so many questions!!

So Mad At Myself!
amcdowell779 replied to amcdowell779's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I don't have any kind of gym or pool nearby. I'm out in the sticks. But that doesn't mean I can't walk or ride the bike at my work. I just gotta get started. I like the bowling game too but it's been forever since I've done it!! We don't even have our Wii hooked up anymore. Need to do that too!! -
I have been really bad lately. My diet is poor and I've not exercised in over a week, I think. I need to lose 17 lbs for surgery and I don't think I've lost one lb yet and this process started at the end of July. Tonight I'm going grocery shopping for the week and I'm going to get my protein drinks also. I plan on starting my 1500 cal diet that my NUT gave me, tomorrow and start walking again. I was doing so good but then just quit like I always do when I lose a little. Please help me get this started and to stick with it so I can have surgery. I need someone to tell me to knock it off and get busy!! Although my mom and husband are good at that I just don't listen when they get on me. I wish I had someone close by to exercise and diet with!! Please help!!!

So Proud Of Myself :)

Excellent job tonight!! I hope I too can say no and stay strong after my surgery because I do not want to mess it up or stray or give myself any leeway. I have struggled my entire adulthood with ky weight and can say I'm truly ready to be done with it. I'm scared right now because I haven't started to lose my weight for surgery yet and need to get it going which I'm starting tomorrow. I've been doing really bad and making excuses like this is my last time ever eating this. Anyways good for you!! Keep it up!! -

New Duluth Mn Member
amcdowell779 replied to Kruzer's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm from North Branch, MN. Maybe 2 hours or so from Duluth. I'm new to here and glad to see someone from MN. I am just starting the process also. I am going to Unity Clinic in Fridley, MN. I have my third psych appointment next Thursday then all my info should be submitted to insurance to get the approval. Then will be the appointment to schedule my surgery. I'm so anxious waiting for my approval. I started the process at the end of July. I guess I'm just impatient though. How is your process coming along? -
New Here And Pre Op. No Date Set Yet!
amcdowell779 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello. My name is Aimee. I am 33 yrs old and brand new to this site. I am currently doing all my pre req's for my approval and waiting for my results to my sleep study and my third psych appt. I am very anxious and can't wait to get my insurance approval and my surgery date. I have quit smoking, track all my cals and exercise, cut back on my diet pop, drink h2o everyday now, chew my food to applesauce consistency, and quit drinking with my meals. I am going to start a liquid diet because I was told to lose 17 lbs before surgery. I am just looking for all the info and support I can possibly get right now. I've been to the dietician and prescribed a 1500 cal diet which I'm constantly cheating on and am not eating my three meals a day without snacking like I was told to do so. I haven't been walking like I was at first either and need to exercise 30 min a day. I need to stop the excuses and start to get busy and focused so if you could offer some suggestions that would be great. I'm desperate to do this and need the support. I'm so happy I found sites like this because we're all going through the same stuff.
