When you need to lose 200+ pounds, how do you get started with exercise?
JASON R replied to momster0's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
hey how are you today? well i will let you know all it take is for you to get started. im was in the same boat you are in. i started out at 419 pounds and the day of my surgery i was 409. and since then 6 months ago, i have lost 77 pounds since surgery. i also didnt like people lookng at me. and me thinking people saying why is the fat guy here. and so on. but i kept going back and before long there was people coming up to me qand telling me i was doing a great job. i mean people i didnt even know. but they have been watching me working out and losing the weight and was happy for me. for the most part the people that i have talked to at the gym is happy to help you work out and are very nice people. and alot of gyms have women only areas if needed. so please dont let what other people think hold you back. your making the first and very big step by gettting the surgery in the first place. so go ahead and go to the gym and so everyone that you are there for one reason and one reason only. to lose weight and feel better. so i say good luck to you and i hope for the best for you. pm me anytime you want to talk. jason r -

im sorry you are this way. i started to get a unfill myself at first. but i think im going to be ok. im not not able to eat almost anything until about 3pm. i drink my Protein and Water until then. but at night time for dinner im able to eat normal our like i should. i have been thinking about this for sometime now. and i was wondering if any of you have done the same. i started out at 419 pounds and lost almost 10 pounds before surgery and now have lost 77 pounds since surgery. i know thats alot of weight and im glad i have done so good in 6 months. but my problem is that in my eyes i cant see that i lost any weight. i know i have because of my clothes dont fit anymore and i can see it in the mirror. but in my head i still see the fat very big guy. and it really has upset me. i know it shouldn't see myself like that but i do. and it is really starting to get to me. i havent talked to anyone about this yet, not even my wife.and im kind of scare to. i guess the reason why im saying it on here is that i feel comfortable with you ladies and guys. since you have had the surgery to. im thinking about calling the head dr and ask her about it. i have done alot of reading about people losing weight like this and it changing there lifes so much where it thkes along time to adjust to it. you have to understand i have been overweight since i was like 7 years old. so i dont know any other way of life. i have gotten asked many times what has been the hardest time with this. and this comes to mine evertime, but i never tell no one. i dont want to scare no one into not getting the surgery. because when it comes down to it. this is the best thing i have ever done for myself. i know i have prolong my live and im sure i will get over this in time. please dont think i have gone crazy. just wonder if this has ever happen to anyone else. i think i will post this in other parts of the site as well. -

whats up joe im sorry for your trouble. but look man you are going to have to start doing the right things. you know yourself that not eating and not working out will not allow you to lose weight. im sorry that you have gained weight back. but please start going by the rules. remember this bands are just tools and they dont lose the weight for you, they just help you on your way there. you can pm me and i will be glad to help uoi in anyway man. i know how hard it is to do this. i was 419 pounds and now im down to 332. and i had to work hard to get there. please call your dr. and set up an apointment with them. and another thinng go to some support group meetings. i have gone to one almost every month after surgery and it helps alot.

kaninag, the classs is limited to 20-25 people. and it is usually full. but im sure we can work something out to get you and someothers in one of the classes to let them show you the correct way! j/k but its really a shame that the other dr's ofice dosent take time and do the things like they do at st.vincents east does. thats one of the main reasons i went to them after listen and talking to 7 other dr's. if i remember right it was like 30 bucks for the class and it was like 3-4 hours long. veronica talks to you first and explain about the surgery and the dos and donts. then ashely comes in and talks to you. she is the nutritonist (sp). i had to have a one on one meeting with her before i could get approved, very nice lady. i got her number somewhere. if you want i will call and talk to veronica and see if we can some post banders in a class. -
what is your diet? how many times do you exercise? and for how long? your following all the rules correct! im sorry for your slow weight loss.

i agree with you. i got the realize band. and i have lost 75 pounds in almost 6 months. hoping to lose another 25 in the next 2 months. and if you follow the rules you will lose the weight. i almost didnt get the realize band because of my size. but i was able to get after they looked in. im up to 6cc's and i believe i hit my sweet spot. i would say trust your dr on which band to get. because if you follow the rulles you will lose the weight.

yea veronica likes to pic on me for some reason. i really enjoy the meetings. it helps more then people think for me. and of course i like seeing everyone every month. well im not going monday to get a fill i believe i need to wait. and also dr.miles isnt going to be there to do it that afternoon. kaninag, you do have something to share, we all do! its good to her from everyone that has had the band done. and people need to see that just because you dont get it done there the support group really counts. and seeing other people there from other dr's is what it takes sometimes. -
ok to begin with you need to stop smoking. that means no more smoking at all. and on the liguids i will tell you what i was told by my dr. 1-3 days Clear liquids,4-14 days full liquids,15-to28 days soft food mushies. clear liquids= any thing you can see threw at room temp. full liquids = and thing that has nothing solid in it. i hope this helps. and please stop the smoking. you can do it.

yes you will be fine by yourself until your roommate comes home. just make sure you have all the things you need close to you before your roommate goes to work/school.

thanks everyone. and thanks kaninag for calling. quick update on my mom. is is doing alot better. her sugar is staying level right now. it did dip down a little today but she got it back up with her meds. and yes i will be at the meeting. i really need it. i just dont feel like standing up and talking this time. im afraid i might start to let the tears go. i cant get the picture of her sloped over in the car. it reminds of when i watch my wifes mom died. she died from cancer and we was there when she pasted away. -

wel it was a long night last night. i got a phone call about 10pm and my dad was telling me i need to get up to there house. he couldnt get mom to do anything (talk, keep her head up and so on). so i rushed up there to see her in the car sloped over and dad holder her head up. the medics was working on here trying to get a i.v. started. her sugar had bottomed out. it was so low it wouldnt even show up on the tester. they finally got an i.v. started on her and pushed some d50 and she came around some. it took about 4 hours to get her sugar up to a safe level. i got her back home around 4 am and shes gone to she her dr now. now to give you a short history on my mom. she has had 3 heart attacks and 2 storkes. she works way to much and doesnt get nowhere near the amount of rest she needs. never eats right and has to take way to much meds to stay alive. im telling all this to show you why i got this lapband. it wasnt to look better to someone else. to wear smaller clothes, our to even fit in a ride at six flags that i havent been able to ride since i was a little kid. it was to see my kids grow up and hopefully see there kids born and grow up. i want to enjoy life with the love ones around me for a long time to come. so when you are thinking that you cant do anymore and you wonder if the surgery was worth it. turn and look at the ones around you and say YES it was. so smile today! because it could be alot worst for all of us! -
