  1. I live in st Charles county so DePaul weight loss institute is closest for me. It's a center of excellence which was also necessary for my insurance. My pcp knew about my attempts to lose weight previously- I did not have to prove anything about it though-just told them at depaul. And it's a one stop shop too which is great-dietitian, nurses, psych assessment, endoscopy, sleep study, surgeon -everyone is there. I would think des Peres hosp would have a similar program. But don't know anything about it for sure. Good luck!
  2. Hi I'm in the Lou too. Well, just outside. My process started in feb 2012 and my surgery is scheduled sept 11. It truly was a long 6-7 months ! Insurance required 6 monthly visits with my doctor where he watched my weight and counseled me some. Seems like alot of extra medical stuff plus the weight loss institute required psychiatric assessment, visit with dietitian, nurse visit, blood tests, endoscopy, sleep study. Wow looking back it was a lot. But totally worth it with just 11 days to go!! I'm on 2 week pre-op protein shake/clear liquid diet now. No complications pre-op!!

Hi all-i love reading everone's stories. Its so encouraging and helps so much, so thank you to all! I started my two week clear liquid/protein shake diet yesterday-so far so good!! surgery is sept 11th. Had pre surgery bloodwork done on the 24th. It shows I'm severely low on vitamin D and my white blood cell count is high. I'm hoping that's from an abscess I had removed from my leg ten days prior to tests, which is healed now. I'm now on 50,000 iu of D once a week for 8 weeks and the nurse said that won't delay the RNY. I have to get a note from physician who removed abscess, clearing me for surgery. Yikes I hope the infection is gone Tuesday when I see him again. Is there any way for me to know its still there? Any way I can make sure it's gone?

    Straws?

This is rather silly to ask, but did everyone stop drinking from straws? I quit caffeine and carbonated drinks months ago, but I'm sad to give up straws. My surgery date is september 11, so I guess I better get used to it with all the liquids I'll have to drink!

    Back To Work

My surgery date is sept 11-I'm planning on taking just two weeks off because of everything I've read. I have a desk job so hoping it will be ok. Any thoughts about that?

    St Louis!
  12. St Louis MO-Dr Morales at DePaul. Super excited-insurance approved a week after I finished jumping through all their hoops. Surgery date Sept 11!
  13. Try "Oh Yeah" ready to drink! 32g protein and 4-6 carbs. I've tried so many but these are my favorites! They have a website but Vitamin Shoppe has singles in their stores. VS website has them cheaper than the oh yeah website! Good luck!
