1. Is there anyway to make a calendar that shows who is being banded which date so we can keep up with everyone??? I know that sometimes people get left out, not on purpose, but we all need support, or we wouldn't be doing this. I am not a computer expert, but some sort of ticker or calendar we can all look at and keep up?????? Marilyn:confused:
2. Hey can anyone tell me what is involved in the Pre Op appointment? Marilyn:help::help::help:
3. Well, its two weeks til surgery, and I have a million things to do besides sitting at the computer and reading posts, but IT REALLY HELPS to read everyones posts. I am still excited and scared like all of you, so its nice to be normal. I did a very risky thing yesterday. I am currently a size 20. I really like those flirty shirts that are full at the bottom and fitted at the top, so I went to Chicos and bought two in size 1, ( size 10-12). I have the bag put where I can see it easily and I am going to make it. Marilyn;)
4. I can't believe it is only 2 weeks til banding. I went out and bought two of the pretty flared skirts in size 10 to be my motivation. Can't remember when I ever saw a size 10 on me, but I am determined to no longer be a size 20. Question??? What is involved in the pre-op appointment? Mal, I am so glad you got another dog. I am an extreme dog person, meaning everything I do is dog related. Can't wait til I get some weight off so I can do agility. Now if only coordination comes with weight loss. Woofray, wish you were up here in Denver. Two of us go to South Suburban Rec Center and do water aerobics. Good workout, but not so hard on knees and ankles. It is so funny to be in the water sweating. Thanks all of you for sharing, it helps me from being quite so scared of failing again. Marilyn

August '07 -- Compare pre-op diets

You know, as I read all these preop diet posts, it is really helping me mentally. If I can do this peop stuff when I'm motivated, waiting for surgery, then the post op diet will almost seem generous. I wonder how many doctors make their pre op diet really miserable for psychological reasons to help us start to change. Any way it is giving me something to think about besides how many days left to Aug 15. Marilyn:rolleyes:
7. It seems like forever since my first post and calling to get my appointment. However, today was the day and I have my surgery scheduled for August 15. Scared but excited. I really appreciate all your feedback on Dr. K. It was great. Having read the back post, and seeing the pictures made my office visit much more comfortable. I am having a little trouble calming down enough to go to sleep, but it is after midnight and I am going to start my pre op diet tomorrow, as I think it might take some time to get with the program. The glitter after my ticker is something the August bandster have decided on. We are the Crazy Ates, since August is the 8th month. Someone was way too clever. Marilyn:whoo:
8. Just got my date today. August 15. I think I am excited but like the rest of you, scared too. What have I gotten myself into? I am having my surgery done in Colorado by Dr. Kirshenbaum. I am also self pay. I have Kaiser insurance, but would have to gain about 50#s and wait over a year. I am 57 and getting fatter everyday and don't have energy to do anything. I am starting my high protein, low carb diet tomorrow even though I really don't have to start til a week before surgery. Figure it will take me that long to get it down without cheating. I am so glad to be a crazy ates, I think. Marilyn:whoo:
9. Is the dinner at Red Robin open to all, even if not banded yet? Marilyn
10. Well, I called this morn and got my initial appointment. The soonest they can see me is Aug 24. Of course, I wanted it sooner. Maybe they will have a cancellation, and I can go sooner. Marilyn
11. DynamoMini, does the lapband help you deal with the emotional eating at all. Is it worth doing before I know all the emotions etc. Marilyn
12.
I haven't been looking at lapband that long. I didn't even know about it til several months ago. I have a friend who had a gastric bypass and has lost over 100#s in 9 months, but I knew that wasn't for me. My BMI isn't that high in comparison.

I have a friend who was very upset after going to a seminar in El Paso, Texas, because they told her that she didn't qualify for the surgery. Her BMI is pretty low, about 32, but she is gaining fast and wanted to stop the gain before she was at 40. She called me when she was so upset at being rejected, and I began researching the lapband on the internet. Like most of you, I have read everything I can get my hands on. Talked to my doctor and got the OK, but I am with Kaiser, and my BMI is not high enough for them, I'm betting. As I have waited and waited to be contacted, I did more research and was ready to go to Mexico. Then a yahoo search turned up Dr. K. I live in Centennial, so that is so much better for me. For several weeks, I switched back and forth, yes, no, whatever. I know I can't loose this 80#s on my own, so I read all day on the lapbandtalk site. I am now convinced that I am ready, willing and able to get this done this summer. I am not planning on telling anyone but immediate family, because after reading lots of the posts, I realize that friends can put a lot of pressure on you and watch what you do or don't eat etc. I don't need more pressure, I just need some control help. The truth that several of you spoke about this only being a tool was SO GOOD!!!!!! I needed to put that on my mirror and say it daily. I am so looking forward to getting to know you all and being on the other side. Thanks for listening. This will probably be my longest post, as I really dislike writing

Marilyn

13. thanks so much for reply to my post. It was so hard to do. You all seem really nice and supportive which is what has encouraged me to do it at all. My husband thinks I should take care of the underlying cause of my eating first. If I knew that and could take care of it, I wouldn't be overweight. Thanks for being there, wish I had starting reading sooner so I could have met you all. Maybe next time.
14. Hi, My name is Marilyn. I have just finished reading all the posts on Dr. Kirshenbaum. It has really encouraged me. I have not any appointments yet, still processing all the info. I think I will call Monday 7-9-07 to schedule. Initial appointments are now $75 according to the email I received. Does anyone know how far out the scheduling is. Once I get up my courage, I don't want to wait too long.
