1. It seems like several of us will be in Dr. K's office tomorrow. I have my first fill at 1:45pm. Thanks michelle for responding to my questions about fills. If anyone else has input I can sure use it. How is the amount of fill decided. Will I be able to eat anything if I come to Red Robin on Tuesday??? Will it hurt. Want2be good luck you will do great. Just remember, I wanted to leave and I am so glad I didnt. It has only been 4 weeks and I really can't remember much, which might be age, you never know. There is so much happening on this thread I can't remember who to respond to about what. But the wedding reception and the romantic get away for anniversary, WOW. Hope we can plan our next REd Robin when Lap is in town, she is my hero. Marilyn
2. Ok everyone, I go for my first fill on the 10th. What should I expect? I think I understand the needle, saline, port thing. but how does Dr. K decide how much to put in? I have look at everyones fills and they are all different amounts. Did the first fill make a difference? I am watching my calories very closely and have gained TWO lbs this week. Not good for the moral. I started water aerobics again this AM, then came home and slept for 3 hours. It is really surprising how little calories are burned by exercise. Fitday says about 200 calories burned for 1 Hour of water aerobics. YUCK!!! Anyway, I could use some first fill advice. Does he numb the area. Can't say I like needles! Marilyn
3. Littleroo1 - Yep it is part of the hospital. After you go through the double glass doors, turn Left immediately and walk to the end of the hallway. Sign says Crown point surgery. In you go, really nice receptionist. Little paperwork, and a very short wait. Be sure to leave jewelry and watch etc. with who ever is waiting for you. Clothes go in a bag they keep with you. I had them keep my glasses too, cause I knew I would want them first. Then the really nice nurses ask you some questions, change into a huge gown and non slip socks, nice warm blanket across you legs. Heparin shot to the stomach and start the IV. Talk to Dr. K and anesthetist, then I don't remember anything after being wheeled to the operating room which is just across the room, transfering to the op table looking around for a few minutes, then waking up and being offered a popscycle. I had two, I was hungry and thirsty. You will do great. Keep us posted. Marilyn
4. Want2bmeagain - Wow your situation sounds just like what I went through a month ago. My husband was sure it wasn't going to work because I would have already done it, it I had had enough determination. He finally came around, and now 3 weeks later, and 20 lbs later he is very proud of me. It hasn't been easy after the first week because I can eat anything, but I track my intake faithfully on fitday.com. I look forward to my first fill on the 10th. You can do it, plus there is lots of support here. Wise decision not to tell some people. I didn't tell many and there are a couple I wished I hadn't told. Keep us posted. Marilyn
5. Lap Dancer - If you can afford it caller ID is so freeing, I never have to wonder if a toxic person is calling. If there is not ID then I don't pick up and they can leave a message, and I can call back. Yeah caller ID. Marilyn One pound from onederland
6. LapDancer, your story made me cry. It seems like we all relived it with you with varying twists. Somewhere in life, we were told our family is all we have and we have to hang on to them no matter what they do. What a bunch of %#^^*##!!!!! About 8 years ago my husband, bless him, told my brother to never call me again. It was the best thing that could have ever happened. Yeah, there are times when I miss having a family, Mom and Dad are both dead and brother is only sibling, but when I think of the abuse I use to put up with and the way I would apologize and try to make everything better again, the years and years I tried, I am so blessed to be AN ONLY CHILD!!! We care about you. Marilyn
7.
Well, I guess I got just a wee bit too cocky. I had scrambled eggs with spinach this am. with no problems. I have had a Protein Bar, yesterday and some other solids. I am suppose to move toward solids slowly this week. Well, I tried tuna fish for lunch, I chewed well about 3 tiny bites, and I knew I was in trouble. Didn't take long til back it came. Hope I never BP again. I went back to full liquids for today and tomorrow. That must mean I am not as open as I thought!! (Gee really, duh!) and there really is a band down there.

Hope no one else joins the club.

Marilyn

everytime I turn around there are more CrazyAtes. 212 is the current number. Hope I haven't missed anyone. Marilyn
9. brandymom1234, I am 9 days post op with Dr. K. I have absolutely no complaints. I do have to remember he is not my regular doctor he is just my lapband doctor. Unfortunately, as word gets out about Dr. K they are getting busy. Sorry the secretary was not friendly. I have only had great experiences. Everyone has busy days, and I know that some days I am more sensitive. Good luck with your decision. Join us on the other Dr. K site, over 100 pages of posts. Marilyn

Crazy Ates sorted by Date of Surgery

I just updated the list. 198 CrazyAtes. Yeah!!! Marilyn
11. Hey Phyllser, If you have any questions about Puerto Penasco let me know. We are building a house down there and spend about 4 weeks a year there. Wonderful place, but it has grown beyond reason in the last 5 years. This thread is so encouraging to me, even with the discouragement, because it is real. I am in bandster hell, 9 days post op, no restriction. But I will make it. Sure helps me to enter my food as I eat it on Fitday.com. I see the carbs add up and it makes me rethink my next choice for eating. dinner time is approaching and I need to do some thinking before I head to the kitchen. Why is it that carbs are so much easier to fix than Protein? Interesting thought. I think I need to make a ticker to my first fill. I sure liked the restriction. Sorry to see it go so quickly, but gives me great hope for the band working well. Marilyn

Greetings

Wow! I impressed with your determination. You are gonna make it. Marilyn

Anyone in "bandster hell" yet?

Just tonight, day 7 after surgery, I noticed that I no longer have any restriction. My doctor only has us on full liquids 9 days. then soft foods for the next week. I miss my restriction already. I am going to make a big effort to watch the total calories I eat and keep it about 1200. Getting enough Protein is certainly going to be a chore. Love my band so far. Marilyn:whoo:
14. I updated the August list. Now there are 190 of us Crazy Ates.
15. Want2bemeagain- boy can I identify with you. I am one week post op and doing so well, however, even when I was at the clinic for my band I ask if it was too late to go home. I am so thankful I didn't. I found alot of good support in the monthly group for Aug. I bet one has started for Sept and lotz of people will be having the same feelings you are having. Sometimes it is like you wrote it yourself, or they were reading your mind. Good Luck, you will love Dr. K. I have my post op appointment tomorrow Aug 23 at 9am.
16. The list of Crazy Ates now has 178 names listed. I also highlighted the ones already banded in RED. Marilyn
17. I have updated the list again. We have 173 names for August. I don't know about the rest of you that have been banded, but this brick in my chest is really annoying. be glad when its gone

Hernia - No band?

I didn't know I had a hiatal hernia before being banded. Dr. K fixed the hernia and banded at the same time. I'm sure it depends on the size and placement of the hernia. I would want more info.
19. Well I am finally in band land. I am excited, but as with all new things, somewhat scared. Surgery went great other than feeling like I wanted to go back home during the preop stage. The shot of Heparin hurt enough that When it came to the IV it was no big deal I got really sick to my stomach during the preop, already had the patch on my neck, but they gave me something else before I went in and again before I woke up. Decided to use the Phenagren last night just for safety. The surgery was over before I knew it. Dr. K fixed a hiatal hernia while he was in there. Now, if anyone asks, why my behaviour is even more strange than usuall, I cn say I had Hernial surgery. I slept really well last night and again this AM. I am not having any troubel with juice and popscycles. I didn't take the prescription medicine for pain today but think I will take a dose for bedtime. You guys ROCK!! Thanks for rembering me Marilyn

Surgery Results

Well I had my surgery yesterday. All went well. I slept through the night. Yeah. The only tricky part around surgery for me was getting very nauseaus before surgery.. They had already put the patch behind my ear, then they started the IV antibotic I had a sudden flush of intense nausea. Fortunally, I had nothing to throw up. I put myself on Clear liquids 3 days before surgery, cause I know how much easier it makes think etc. I had 2 popsicles before I left the surgery care center. I am having no problems sipping liquid. Probably had 32 oz already today. Hopeing to get by with liquid Tylenol in the day and use the strong stuff at night. God was so good to me. Dr. K said there was a small hietal hernia, which he fixed. So now I can just tell people I had a small hernia fixed. So glad to be 1 day postop. Best wishes to all coming up. I have about 10 more names to add to the list. Probably after my afternoon nap.
21. I remember reading in a post somewhere on this site that there is a website to help you keep track of what you are eating. Help please!!!:help::help:
22. There are 15 of us being banded tomorrow, August 15. I have decided that is a very good omen. Thanks for everyones prayers and encouragements. Hopefully, I'll be back on line soon. Scared but excited. Marilyn:notagree
23. I have just been reading all your posts. Woof, I hope it is easily fixed. Tomorrow is my surgery. I can't believe it is here already. I am scared but excited. Thanks for being there and sharing your journeys. Marilyn:notagree
