It's hard to find information on starvation that isn't given relating to eating disorders, and I want more than just that one branch of opinion. http://jaoii.lunarpages.com/bar.gif One article on POWs in Japan said they were on a "near-starvation diet of 700 calories per day". Most sources will agree that this is most definitely within actual starvation range. A diet article said that "to avoid triggering the starvation-adaptation response, you should consume at least 1,200 Calories per day if you’re a woman and 1,600 Calories if you’re a man." I think, though, that they were more concerned with the metabolism's slowing-down response than actual starvation. And I found a technical, encyclopaedic definition that seems pretty thorough: Starvation is classified into three categories based on caloric intake over time (Frisancho, 1981): 1. Acute - less than 600 calories/day for less than two weeks. 2. Semiacute starvation - less than 1100 calories/day for less than 30 days. 3. Moderate semistarvation - less than 1600 calories/day for as long as 24 weeks. Initial consequences of starvation are apathy, muscle weakness, and reduction of activity. Body weight loss is progressive. The body first extracts energy from carbohydrate stored in the liver and glycogen in muscles. Then the body burns fat to get needed energy for about two weeks. After that point both fat and Protein are used. After 24 weeks there is a loss of physical work performance. Individuals with a daily diet intake of less than 2,000 calories per day have impaired physical work capacity. Many sources agree that starvation causes some pretty typical behavior changes. Interestingly enough these new behaviors are the same as those usually found in eating-disordered people... a fixation on the body, an obsession with meal-planning and cooking, the tendency to hoard food or pictures of food, other compulsive-type ritualized patterns. I'm curious. How many of those traits do eating-disordered people start with, and how many show up on their own as a result of our food habits? A lot of doctors attribute our disorders to those traits, not the traits to the disorder, and therefore tend not to consider the possibility. And the article about the Minnesota starvation study has finally reared its pretty head. I'm so frickin' happy! I love this baby. It explains so many of those odd little quirks that plague me from time to time, and I think it's fascinating to see how starvation can turn almost anyone into an ED, at least for a while. I wonder if that's really how a lot of EDs begin. People with the tendencies start to diet, then their bodies kick into gear and yank them down. So it's not just a matter of willpower or self-control or "not letting a diet get out of hand" if some of us really can't mess with that without going nuts, is it?     I" have to agree with Jachut! (Carideo) is the best way to lose weight with light weight's more reps; walking swimming biking are all good! easy on your knee's and back. You are just starting out in the game of weight loss there will be good day's and bad, it all take's time. you have to change up your routines and try a little more exercise. Exercise Is the key in weight loss. Your Band is a Important tool in your weight loss,now you just have to learn to help it! Good luck John

I' have thirteen pound's to lose then I' wont be over weight any more!... Im thinking of having one down because I have a small stomach roll and can't do crunth's to firm it up because of multiple bulging disk's.

( what are you most COMFORTABLE at? )and what do you want to stay at or see your self at that is the true answer! don't worry about vanity or what other people think, In my own mind my weight loss has to come from me as I'have to chose to eat and what to eat and then to Exercise, if I don't want to ballon up again.     The Two Bowls of Cereal a Day Diet

    Has any tryed ( KASHI ) go lean crunch Protein Cereal 9g Fiber 8g soy protein 6.25 very very good breakfast with trail mix or in your yorgurt, being banded has any tryed egg beater's very low calorie breakfast one cup is a plate size omelet 100 calorie's. what ever you do "I hope it works.good luck. ps every other day I skip one meal with high protein slimfast and try to eat one meal even if its only 3 oz of meat a day. just for my hair. and I try to eat 5 or 6 time's aday every three hours some thing healthy!!! small amount.

  15. Could you have (Pulled a muscle,) in your lower back? before I had my gallbladder removed when I was having attack's for some reason Id get back pain up high tight chest? What ever you do I hope you get it fixed! also before giving the band up check all your option's..... This many sound funny but try walking around and losen up your muscles. Good luck

    counting calories, getting depressed

    Plateau's are comin in weight loss after you get so far!... I" think that I have hit three. Change up! Jachut is right. Learn from my mistake,"Id eat about 1500/? calorie's then work out for hour's. Around May' some one told me here, that I' was burning more calorie's then "I was taking in there for robbing my self of proper Nutrient's........unaware of it! 42 days of killing myself and only lost 3 pound's. If you are able light weight's and( cardieo ) work's well! And if not just walk as it is easy on your knee's and lower back! good luck with your weight loss Journey,you have done the biggest step getting banded now you have to work with it.     January's Chat

    Last year's weight loss was between 115/111 pound's..back & fourth. Today the first day of new year's,I' started my new Food" and exercise Journal. To help me keep track of my food intake and calorie's,( Calorie's burned ) "Ive have been eating very healthy but "I think my problem with my last 12 pound's "Ive been chasing for at least two month's is ."IM burning more then half of the daily calorie's that im taking in!!! causing my own body to have to fight for the remaining calorie's so last week started staying around 2000 calorie's that is alot of food by the way if you are eating right and not junk food like fast food,candy, pop, for me exercise, and proper balanced diet has been my ticket to weight lose. Well I hope that you all meet your wight loss goals this year!
