Holidays Fears And Rambles And Updates
worm2872 replied to Sparklette's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm scared too but I know, like you, that this is best. My surgery is the 19th so I may even be in the hospital on turkey day. I'm good with it. Actually it will be few less pounds to lose. I don't want people to know but the will. Three weeks off work then losing 130 pounds (positive thinking). Good luck to you!! We are here to help. -
Stephanie. Glad to hear from you!!! May you have a speedy recovery. :-)

Anyone Else Doing This 'alone' In One Way Or Another?
worm2872 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I feel so alone.... I have my hubby and BF but I have gone through all the meetings and testing alone. I'm going through a big bariatric center and it seems everyone has a support person with them. Then there is me... Alone. Work does not know what my surgery is for incase it would not be approved off. Hubby works way to far away and has very little time to take off. My BF had her hubby, mom and another friend going with her to appointments and meetings. My mom is going to come stay with me for a few days after and thinks we are going to do house projects? WTH? So even when I do explain the situation to people they don't listen. I have this feeling something is going to happen to me and no one is going to know what to do. I have visions of me lying on the floor and people poking me with a stick. I guess I am just getting scared and I feel like a freak sometimes. -
Startinova, Yes! I have my big preop appointment Tuesday. I realized today I need to cut out all the herbs, aleve, etc from my diet today. It's that close!! YAY Karmagirl, I am the same as you only my hubby, mom and BF know. This board is a big support for me. I am so happy with all the help I have received so far.

Amtlmt: Welcome and congrats. There are a few posts on the pre and post op boards about liquid diets but they really vary surgeon to surgeon. I agree with BabyGirl and I would call your Dr. Mine is the 19th and I am so glad to hear you are doing well two days out.

Need To Know What ? To Ask Surgeon.
worm2872 replied to amcdowell779's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How long will I be out of work or school? Is there a pre-op diet/pre-surgery liquid diet? Will there be a limit on how much I can lift or cary? How much and for how long? Will I need to have someone stay with me when I get home? For how long? How soon can I resume normal household duties? What is dumping syndrom? How soon can I resume taking care of my children? What kind of pain medication will you be sending me home with? What supplements do you recommend I take? (If he says “Flintstones” either find another surgeon or realize that he’s not up to date on the latest studies. Flintstones don’t cut it.) How often will you be checking my blood vitamin levels for deficiencies? Can I be tested more often if I wish? How small will my pouch be? What kind of exercise do you recommend and when can I start? What about medications after surgery? I take _____. How will surgery impact the absorption rate and effectiveness of this medication(s)? I have diabetes/ high blood pressure/ other co-morbidity. I know that gastric bypass often, but not always, dramatically reduces or even eliminates these problems. How closely will you monitor these conditions after surgery, and how will we know when or if my medications should be changed or stopped? Is it possible for my pouch to stretch back out? If so, what can I do to prevent it? I’ve heard diarrhea and gas are a common side effects. Is this true and is there anything I can do to prevent them? What do you think is a realistic goal weight for me to achieve and maintain? How rapidly do you expect me to lose weight? 10 pounds a month? 30? How wide a range is “normal?” Can I expect plateaus? What do you recommend when I have them? How long can I expect weight loss to continue after surgery? Will it ever again become very difficult or impossible to lose weight? How hard will I have to work to maintain my weight loss in 2-3 years? This is a lot of information to take in all at once. What do you consider are the most important things I need to keep in mind before having surgery? -
