Burning Pouch Pain
worm2872 replied to michelecaples's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you taking Pepcid? I have to take one twice a day per my Dr. I'd call your dr. -
Dumping is a "side effect" of RNY. Since you have a smaller stomach and less intestine for the food to process through, sweets and fats can cause dumping. Dumping is when the food moves to fast in the system causing hot flashes, vomiting and diarrhea . Really horrible! Not all patients have dumping but it is awful when it happens. Some folks are ok with SF FF ice milk or frozen yogurt. There are even Greek high protein ones now. But the days of the DQ blizzard are gone. Hard for me but it was something I was willing to give up for all the other benefits. They did me no good in the past. Good luck.

Irritated When Other People Eat
worm2872 replied to kimmyk's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's so weird now. I'm not so much irritated by them eating as missing the activity. As we were coming home from the hospital last night I kept thinking hubby and I should go to iHOP. We both had long stressful days. WTH? I wasn't hungry nor did I want it but that's what we "did" do. This is best for both of us. Except he's living on Chinese food right now (ugh). Lol -
Falicia: thank you! So far so good. Slept about seven hours. So that had to help at least mentally. Hope you are recovering well too!

Hey Truth!! Congrats!! It's a very exciting and scary time. Mine was this past Monday so I know how you feel. It is a BIG step and there will be good and bad days but I have personally met so many people in this process that said it was the best thing they have ever done. So let us aim high for a healthy and happy new you!! Good luck!!

PlutoMars: yes take a deep breath! Do clear liquids this really does help. It you have been mainly following the preop diet you should be ok. If not at all, there may or may not be issues. My dr doesn't require one and I was fine with a 43 BMI. Also the beer: technically yes. It's carbonated and that is a big nono for most RNY patients. Too much air in the pouch and alcohol can be processed poorly by us (see UPMC study) . But I know a lot of people that can do alcohol and carbonation a year or two out. It is just not recommend. 1 1/2 weeks off work is really pushing it. Some do two and are fine with no complications. I'm still at three but may need more since I had to have a second surgery for a stricture. Only time will tell. Good luck to you! Let us know what you need. :-).

Juan, I hear you. I fear that as well. My Surgery was Monday and again Yesterday. So I've had a hell of a week. I'm am too afraid of going thru all of this and then failing. We won't fail. Get support. I know where I have failed before on diets is not getting the mental support I Need to remain strong. Ill get counseling this time is I have to. This board is also wonderful for support. Get a buddy who will kick your but and you his!! Good luck to you!!

MichK. I to had surgery on Monday the 19th. I started out pretty good but I'm back in the hospital now. Had to have a stricture fixed. I'm a little nauseated and I'm very sore now but ok. Having to start all over a again but there seems to be mixed signals with what the Drs. told me and what the orders are. Sigh.. Anyway., What I like so far is G2 low cal grape, Popsicles and propel lemon. Very light flavor in the propel. I also keep going back to ice chips. Hard to track for Water intake but they are so easy to get down. Good luck to you all!

6 Months Out And Still Have Tummy Upset
worm2872 replied to PoppyAnn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was only four days out but had a stricture in my small intestine. Let me tell you, you can't tolerate even water. So make sure your dr know all the details. I had another surgery yesterday now it seems like it's just the pain meds making me sick. There are about three different prescriptions they can offer you as well. One is a patch for behind the ear. Good luck! -

Tstark: I had surgery Monday and the second was yesterday. I'm feeling pretty good. Rey said it was an easy but critical fix. -
Music: I can't agree more. I've been through a lot this week and I just keep thinking about the ones who have struggled more but push threw it.
