Is it ok to use the benefiber 4 days postop? I wasn't sure if it would hurt anything. I have used MOM and that did nothing for constipation and then a glycerine suppository didn't do much either. Help!!!!! I just don't want to screw up the band. Thanks:confused_smile::thumbup:

Hi I too had the lapband surgery on 4-22-08. I have gotten along pretty well. I must say the first 2 nights were not fun at all. I ended up sleeping in the recliner because I couldn't lie flat. The Vicodin was nice but I am not taking that anymore. At least with it I could sleep. Today was interesting though. I am constipated and feel like I have a gas ball inside me. I have felt very hungry today and have had lots of rumbling going on. Not pleasant. I at least am not nauseated or throwing up. Sounds like your surgery went well. I would like to lose about 100 pounds. I am 49 years old and a nurse by trade. I have five kids, the oldest being 30 and the youngest being 9. I lost about 10 pounds on the pre-op diet, how did you do? Hope to hear back. mama59

3 more days to go for my banding
mama59 commented on Lita's blog entry in Lets Journey together - For new bandster in mar, apr & may 2008
Hi, I am a 49 year old nurse that is having the lapband on Tuesday the 22nd. I am scared and excited. I have told a handful of friends and my family. I started this journey in June of 2007. I have lost 10 pounds in the preop time ( which was about 3 weeks). I had to appeal my insurance when we first filed, but then they came back with me having to do the 6 month diet supervised diet. I actually didn't loose any weight during that time and I was very worried that because of that they would not approve me. I checked with the surgeons office and they hadn't heard anything so they checked with insurance and within 4 hours I was approved. It all happened so fast after that. I will check into your parogress..mama59 -
Anesthesiologist questions...please help!!
mama59 replied to LynneB's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is quite common not to talk to anesthesia until the morning of surgery. You can't usually call them up either. Most don't have an office. They go to work at surgery, they are there all day and they go home from there. Usually they have a billing office. The nurse you spoke to for your pre-op interview should have answered most questions about the anesthesia. The morning of surgery the Anesthesiologist will come in and introduce themselves to you. You will have a general anesthetic which means you will get medicine thru your IV to relax you and then they give you other meds to put you to sleep. Once you are asleep they intubate you with a breathing tube. You have monitors for your heart, blood pressure, Oxy gen level, temperature etc. They do the surgery and you wake up in recovery. Hope that helps a little. mama59:smile: -
I am scheduled for surgery on April 22nd. I think about it alot and wonder if I am doing the right thing. I have been going thru this process since June of last year. I want it bad....but this pre-op diet has been a real test for me and I hope I am strong enough to follow the rules. I am not backing out but I am nervous about it and it is on my mind alot. I hope you do well. Keep us posted....mama59

Newbie needs a weightloss buddy/have 6 months to wait.

Hello everyone, I too had to do the 6 month supervised diet. I didn't lose but 4 pounds during this time and I was really worried that they would not approve me because of that. I called the Surgeons office today to see why I hadn't heard anything. She called me a couple of hours later and said that they hadn't received any of the things that the office had faxed and that there had been a change in my coverage that excluded weight loss surgery. I was very very sad and disappointed. I did call the insurance company and ask if we had had a coverage change and they didn't know of one. I was then feeling better but still worried that it once again wouldn't happen. Then the phone rang and it was the surgeons office telling me that they received word that I was approved and when did I want to schedule. Talk about a roller coaster of emotions......whew!!!!!:biggrin2: -
Hello, I am waiting on insurance. They (United Healthcare) denied me and I had to do the 6 month Physician supervised diet. I am now waiting to see if I get approved. I am wondering. I have heard that your hair gets very thin after the surgery and I have very thin hair now. Does anyone know if that is true? Also I worry about the PB as everyone refers to. If you happen to be out to eat or with people and have to excuse yourself for this PB it is hard for me to grasp this.... thanks Julie:confused2: Sounds like it is going well for you and that you are happy with the band.

I have United Healthcare also. Do you think they will cover it. The surgeons office were skeptical that they would. I will be interested to know if you get coverage.
