Momof6 sorry to hear about that ripping pain, I agree with Jess check if it's hot or tender and call that doc. Sassy you are kicking butt girl three flights of stairs sheesh I can't do that pre op lol. Glad it went well and the dire predictions of your family did not come true. They must love you a lot to be so afraid. As for me I had to leave work early today side effects of the new pain med I tried. My pcp and I are trying to find a replacement for Percocet which I have to take with Benadryl cuz it makes me itch and only at night cuz perc n Benadryl make me sleepy. So she tried fentanyl patch 1st but I welt up from adhesives and the next one was oral morphine wellllllllll boy did I itch crazy so I took 2 Benadryl and today was nauseated and dizzy couldn't et anything til tonight( I am on my optifast diet). Still trying to get my infectious disease doc to write the damn clearance letter but he is waiting for the result of my nasal swab he did in his office. He told me I was cleared either way neg or positive just had to continue decolonizing and if positive ake prophylactic vancomycin pre op. I have my two hour hospital class tmr am then work then Friday I have the IVC filter inserted in my heart to prevent clots getting to my heart or brain post op.

I have heard people get small bowls plates and silverware. I have bought an assortment of trial Protein drinks to see which ones I will like post op, I ordered all my vitamins( the dietician gave me specific dosages and requirement based on my lab results. I plan to go to my storage unit and get my box full of Davinci sugar free syrups so I can doctor my drinks. I have consulted my pcp and we are trying different medications to take the place of my NSAIDs. My son who is taking me to the hospital has requested the day of. I got a call from the hospital nurse, good news i will be the first case of the day and go to the bariatric surgical floor. I am waiting on the "clearance " letter from the infectious disease doc. I specified the language i needed and he agreed to write it up with provisions for if i am positive or negative on the repeat swabs. I called the office and the surgical coordinator is calling me back after she talks to the doc.

I talked to the hospital nurse and the infectious disease doc today. Plan to start bactoban nasal treatment , continue with the action plan I already implemented with both of their approval ( I started daily hibicleanse bathing and antibiotics last w/e). Also I thought about my cpap machine. I deep cleansed that with hibicleanse and ordered new parts for it. Ie water chamber, tubing and mask plus the filter. The infectious disease doc recultured me so we will see how that turns out. Also the nurse at the hospital said putting me on another floor not the bariatric floor made no sense and that would not happen she did not think. I will be calling the office tomorrow to discuss the issue with someone higher up the food chain ie the NP or Doctor. Basically I have calmed myself down and am taking steps to make this the safest procedure for me and others. I am hopeful all will proceed according to the plan in place. The infectious disease doc was confident that the decolonization will a. Work so that My culture is negative or b that the decolonization will render me fit for surgery even with the necessary isolation to protect others and that I will be protected by prophylactic antibiotics pre op and post op.

Leilani I watched this new show with mathew perry and he is in group therapy mandated by his job anyway he goes and the teacher is late and he starts a competition to see who's sob story is the BEST. Iam thinking me you and isla are playing his game right now oh Jessica you can get in to( since you provided photo evidence think you might win) They way I look at it might as well laugh instead of crying right? I wish I could help more but here is my two cents. It can't hurt to try and submit early worse thing that can happen is they say no and you wait the extra month. Second I recommend sitting down with the surgical coordinator at the surgeons office and ironing out why they say the insurance reuirement is 6 months when the insurance company says they do not have that or any requirement. They usually have lots of experience getting people approved and maybe they have run up against rejections.

My doctor gave me sublingual zofran for the nausea since I am pre op have not used it yet . Did your doc give you some?

Today I went to bluepoint for my dietician and doctor appointment. I have had my issues with some people at the office and today was no different. I think they just plain do not like me. Not everyone but at least two are cold curt and borderline insulting. I am an advocate for my own health care (what nurse isnt) and I ask questions. i do not know if this can be resolved but I am not taking it sitting down. When they ask me how it is going I say fine except the way certain people treat me. If I get the chance I will write them a evaluation that is truthful. I do not think I am unreasonable but maybe i am. either way BE NICE it wont kill you and it goes a long way when dealing with people having a major life changing surgery sheeesh. Ok so I am excited and nervous but not to bad yet. I am in day three of my two week optifast (adjust by me of course) diet. I had reduced 12 lbs per my PCP's scale then the bluepoint scale said i gained back 5 lbs. At that time i was doing less then 2000 calories a day low carb no cheating. I was like F this and had a candy bar. What is the point of being good and still gain. Not a good attitude I know. I admit the candy did not taste as good as I thought it would and I got back on track pretty quickly. my FINAL meal pre op was sunday night. I went out with the family to my old favorite italian restraunt and had pasta spinach soup and lovely italian bread and desert but i forgot about the brownies i had at home and didnt have one. I made my son take them the next day once I started my optifast diet. I was proud of myself for not eating those! Today my wt at bluepoint was back to the 12 lbs reduced but the scale fluctuated to a 2 lb gain (I guess I was not being still) I about freaked out. The girl weighing me was a bit unfriendly but I think she was feeling unwell (cough or cold). Then there is the MRSA issue. I have been concerned that I will have an active site near my surgery date and maybe get a systemic infection even though the worst one I had (left leg) that required 5 days hospitalization never cultured positive in my blood. I mentioned it to my doctor he was not concerned since I have nothing active right now. The nurse at the hospital said I must have a swab of nose and throat prior to my surgery. I got bad news today. My nasal swab was positive for mrsa. MRSA is a nosocomial infection which means its hospital acquired and the organism is resistant to treatment. As a nurse for almost thirty years I guess it's inevitable to be colonized but it's devastating to be told your surgery may be delayed because they have to do you last so they can decontaminate, you will be unable to be on the bariatric floor but will be placed on a floor on isolation, and have to get an infectious disease clearance. So I made an appointment with a doc for Monday and I am starting some antibiotics that have from my last infection, I am going to bath in hibicleanse everyday and may do a nasal lavage with it . I feel desperate!

Yeah I didn't handle the call well I starting crying and the staffer was like why are you getting so upset? My answer is I so do not want to be placed off the bariatric floor. Which I have heard is awesome and the staff treats you really well plus it must be set up for my weight( the bed the gowns etc). Instead I would be on a floor treated like a leper and isolated. I am starting the doxycycline tonight.

Jessicaaaaaaaaaaaa, I found out at my last dr appt and meeting with the hospital bariatric nurse that I needed a mrsa swab pre op. no boggy I have never been pos nasally. WRONG! I sent off my swab confident then they called me today to say it was positive and that I need 2 negative swabs or I have to be placed in isolation on a medical floor not the bariatric floor, I need a medical clearance from an infectious disease dr, and they may change my time so they can make me the last case of the day instead of the first. I am so angry and upset by all this. I think I will take the antibiotics I have , decolonize with hibicleanse, and I made an appointment with a dr for Monday. I really hate they way they make you a leper when it's a stinking hospital acquired infection and they freaking gave it to me when I was working. Sheesh this is just a kink I so did not need.

Isla, so sorry you had to abort the surgery but you are here and that's what is important. One thing about medicine there are so many times when there is no reason no answer its frustrating as heck. In the old days docs were gods and we all believed they always knew what was going on and what to do to fix it. No more! Now we know it's a guessing game. I am glad your surgeon knew when to stop and save you! I hope they can come up with a solution for you.

I find that people are to diverse to say any one diet is best for all. Low carb was the only diet I ever did that was sucessful (ish- since I did not keep it off) plus when i am keeping low carb I can actually resist tempting items. When I tried low cal low fat I was miserable and felt sick and weak. I never lost wt well and ended up cheating rather quickly due to how I felt.

I gained 8 lbs from my first doc visit. I went a little crazy having my " lasts ". I finally got a grip by data entering every thing I ate into myfitnesspal . I was still eating Snacks etc and my doc wanted me to lose 35-40 lbs. I think i blogged an entry about my PLAN. Spent a few days just entering data, then eliminated snacks, then low carb with a jump start with three days of Optifast . Still after reducing by 12 lbs and staying with the low carb no cheating ousted the scale at my surgeons office ( had used the one at my pcp) it said i gained 5 lbs. that pissed me right Off the diet into my old favs again ie sweets and carbs. My dr requires 2 weeks optifast I am in day three and am back to 12 lbs eliminated. my doc appt was today and he said nothing about my wt just expressed approval of my two weeks of optifast.
