each office has different requirements but I think once the surgical coordinator gives you a date they make a final doc appt for within 2-4 weeks of that date. I think it is confusing because there are things pre op for approval then the actual pst pre surgical testing that must be done before surgery itself. things that need to be within 30 days of the actual surgery date like blood work and medical clearances. other pst can be within 6 months

Oh I wanted to mention I am a RN. I worked l & d for 19 years then this year for many reasons I switched to a desk job in PST which is pre surgical testing. I call and interview people before they have surgery and tell them what meds to take ie not take, not eating, and directions. Also I check that the chart has all the required testing and that the testing is within normal limits or cleared by the appropriate doctor. So my list includes the pre surgery items and the pre op items. Something's need to be done within 30 days of surgery to be valid like the lab work and the medical clearence. Others within 6 months like the EKG chest x ray and cardiac clearence Sent from my iPhone using RNYTalk

Well my doc gave me a booklet on our first visit. It had alot of info about obesity and the different options. It also had a checklist with two columns one was what your insurance required the other what he required. I think their office knows the insurance companies very well so they gave me my date once I had completed those requirements which for Aetna were 3 months of classes and a psych eval. I did the supervised multidisciplinary program in their office and got the psych eval done and in their office before my final weigh in date of July 24. I have a blog where I explain in detail a few issues I had with the office staff. I think they gave me my date due to some of those issues and while the date itself was 2 months from the final weigh in on July 24 th I think that was for two reasons one I needed to lose some wt as I had gained during the 3 month program and my bmi is very high at 69-70. Two they wanted to be sure they had time to get my approval. Sent from my iPhone using RNYTalk

    Sept Surgery Date?

I am embarrassed to say my wt but I have posted it all over so my start or highest wt is 448 I am 5 ft 71/2 inches tall which makes my bmi 70. I was a little less when I started this process but started a goodbye to food binge that had me gain to my highest wt. I have since started a data entry of all I eat on myfitnesspal that helped me lose 8 lbs. I then did 3 days of optifast and now I am doing low carb meat - protein veggies fruit and no " white" refined sugar, potato , and pasta. I am required to do two weeks of optifast pre op.

    Sept Surgery Date?

I also have my surgery scheduled for September. September 25, 2012. I started my journey April with a seminar. First dr appt with Bluepoint medical group dr Moazzaz april12. Started my three months of classes 4/24 because traffic was so bad I missed my 1st appt the 20th. I had some complications with my appointment schedule because the regular scheduler was out on maternity leave. I was very upset with the office staff but they made it up to me on my final weigh in. I got my " second" md/np appt that very day and they gave me a surgery date of sept 25. That was July 24 2 days before my 51st bday. I actually do not have official insurance approval but they are confident they will get it this week. My doctor wants me to lose 45 lbs before my surgery day so I started seriously getting a handle on my eating by data entering everything I eat in myfitnesspal. Then I did a few days of optifast last week to jump start my low carb diet. Now I am low carb only no sweets. I have lost 8 lbs but I do not have a scale that can weigh me so I don't know if I have lost anymore. Will drop by my drs office and use their scale Monday. So let's start a september surgery group. Anyone else interested?

    Is This Strange?

Take your good fortune and WALK with it! Pain is very personal as a labor and delivery nurse I have seen a cesarean section hop out of bed and walk to the bathroom with No pain meds and a vaginal uncomplicated birth need pain meds every four hours. Congrats and just be mindful and aware of any pain starting I teach my patients to use the pain scale for themselves. 0 to 10 0 is no pain 5 is the point where you can not rest due to the discomfort and 10 is complete agony. If you FEEL under 5 your ok when your level rises medicate it so your not going above the 5. This will allow you toove and rest and heal. Good luck and continued good healing!
  22. Have been on it ( no cheating ) 2 1/2 days. I don't feel hungry or tired just have a lot of gas and diarrhea. I also noticed I have to pee constantly. Now I am diabetic so I wonder what this diet is doing to my blood sugar. I noticed the bars contain high fructose corn syrup but plenty of protein also. I know this is a liver shrinking diet to but sheesh when I gave to do thus for two straight weeks I hope I can Handle it. PS I am doing an extra week to jump start my low carb diet to achieve my pre op wt loss requirement.
  23. I also am having my surgery at a center for excellence in northern Va though. My insurance required 3 months of classes with dietitians exercise coach behavior modification etc then documentation from my pcp for 3 years of wts. Once I got that done I thought I would get a date the next month. That was July 24 and they set my date for September 25, 2 months away. I am Ok with that now but was a bit disappointed it wouldn't be August. I had a few issues with the office staff ( see my blog the third and Fourth installments for full Details). After my meltdown they really showed me some compassion and helped me get my date, the info the insurance company needs, and all my appointments set up. I feel way better about the office and the whole deal. This whole thing was hard enough I am Glad that part got straightened out!
