Morning everyone weeeeeeeee a surgery sister. Unfortunately I am in atrial fib again although I am ignoring it and am at work. I think the new medicine is helping as I don't feel as bad as I usually do. No head ache or dizziness or shortness of breath. I have to reobtain my cardiac clearance and he surely won't clear me if I am in fib. so once I convert back to sinus rhythm I will make my appointment. This really has to stop.

Ok I will try again here are the q I wrote up Ok so I am a nurse(almost 30 years now) I am most likely a PIA(pain in the a$$) to all my doctors because I "guide" my care and treatment, ask a lot of questions, and question their answers with a lot of data and research. The list below is the q&a for my RNY surgery 9/25/12. bluepoint is my gastric bypass doctors group, I have a cardiologist and a PCP or primary care physician, and a cardic surgeon to place my IVC filter. Doctor questions Bluepoint doctor questions: Q: Pain control post op for arthritis Meds that can be liquid or crushed? ***no NSAID's**** A: Q :Is there a bowel prep diet pre op A: no Q: Expected length of stay in hospital A: 2 days Cardiology and PCP questions: Q: What are my needed meds post op? Tikosyn per cardiologist- can it be opened and added to liquid to take? Kdur – will be on k added fluids in hospital and monitored Magnesium ? Actos glipizide will be off these after surgery and on a sliding scale insulin. Recommended sugar control pre op suggested sliding scale insulin now (ask my pcp to write for the insulin) Q: Lovenox? Since I need to be off 5 days pre IVC placement and 4 days pre RNY surgery are we concerned about stroke risk? I am! Also Optifast will it affect my Afib or electrolyte balance ? Bluepoint wants cardiologist to adjust my cardiac meds on optifast if needed. A: IVC filter DOCTOR q's (cardiac surgeon) Q: Stop Coumadin prior to insertion when? A: 5 days prior Q: When and where procedure done A: Fairfax or fairoaks A: DATE: Q: Anesthesia used propofol? A: General Q: IS MAC/PROPOFOL an option A: Q: Do they (IVC placement doctor) need clearance from cardiology and PCP prior to IVC placement A: no

Hi everyone, welcome all the new people especially those sharing my surgery date 9/25/12 whooooo hooooo! I am continuing my pre op requirements I now need a new cardiology clearance bummer but I don't think it will take much my cardiologist is very supportive of my desicion to have WLS. I meet my doctor that will insert the IVC filter next Tuesday I need to figure out when I will have that procedure and where. When I need to stop my blood thinner and if I need to take lovenox in the interim. I have to write down all the questions so I remember to ask him. Ok wrote em down Oh anyone exercising yet. I bought the resistance bands my exercise coach at the bariatric team but have not started doing it. It is so difficult to do any exercise at my present wt with my back pain and knee issues.

Wow that is very unfortunate not only for her but for you to hear. I would take it with a grain of salt. Remember there will always be someone bigger/ smaller uglier/ prettier. Richer/ poorer uncomplicated/ severe complications. A few years ago all my colleagues were getting LASIK surgery I jumped in that bandwagon and like most of my coworkers had no problem but there was that ONE girl who didn't use her drops and had major problems. So follow your drs advice take your supplements Vitamins eat right etc. I posted the golden rules of post op eating in my blog it's truly words to LIVE by. Check it out Sent from my iPhone using RNYTalk

We guys I am home out of the hospital on a new med for my a fib. Hopefully I will not have an episode before my RNY sept 25. I work in prw surgical testing so I am doing my pre ops here where I work and I sent the surgeon my ekgs the good and the bad ones ( sinus rhythm and afib) and my chest X-ray report. Lots of appointments next week. I will need an IVC filter placed 2-4 days before my RNY to prevent clots meet with that doc next Tuesday. Anyone else been told they need one? So I think we are a bit alike. I like to plan and plan and stock and plan lol so I bought my Optifast online and tried it out to jump start my low carb way of life. Their shakes ( I bought ready to use cartons an expensive way to go I think and it limits you use somewhat ) tasted just ok would not recommend them really. My psych counselor showed me a few and gave my unjury samples those u liked and I bought some from their website. A few containers with 17 scoops in each. I would use the search tool here and try to get recommendations from people then buy small amounts and try them out. Oh yeah I bought the unflavored Protein powder from unjury also is u can add it to things to up the protein without changing the flavor. I agree with everyone here the drug most commonly used is the same one Michael Jackson used for sleep. So for many it's like a great sleep and they wake up refreshed. I would ask them what they use because general anesthesia is a totally different thing from twilight sleep or conscious sedation with both you don't feel or remember anything but I am very sensitive to general and am hard to rouse and puke a lot but was just fine with the propofol. It's a very fine med just requires monitoring and skilled administrators. Plus your procedure is not a long one so you won't be out long. Good luck Sent from my iPhone using RNYTalk

We share our surgery date and I to have to do the liver shrinking diet. I bought my supplies ( Optifast ) online on eBay saved about 100 bucks. I bought an extra weeks worth to jump start my diet and did it for three days. I noticed I was not hungry did not have the headaches I have seen people complain about but I did have gas and diarrhea. We will both start out 13 days on the 12th so we can commiserate and support each other through it. Are you dieting now? When I First started my three month program with the drs office I went a bit food crazy and binged on all the food I was giving up. I actually gained 8 lbs and my doc was not happy. So now I am doing the four food groups the drs website suggested Protein Veggies Fruit Limited carbs whole wheat only and small quantities Plus I data entry everything I eat into myfitnesspal it keeps my snacking to a minimum because I don't like to admit to it lol

I just got my unjury order that was fast! Unfortunately I am having a bout of atrial fib ( rapid irreg heart beat) for the third time in 10 days. I am so upset I have had this condition for 8 years and this the most episodes I have had in a long time. The cardiologist has suggested a change in my meds but that requires hospitalization and monitoring. What a horrible day I am having and it started out so well. I started getting my pre op testing today my EKG this afternoon was perfect and I got my chest X-ray now this sighhhhhhhhh

Talk to the doctor that prescribed the meds and let him/her look into prescribing liquid forms and or crushable alternatives for the time release ones. When is your anticipated date of surgery? Sent from my iPhone using RNYTalk

I just bought an assortment of unjury brand my psychiatric counsellor gave me samples and they were fine. The website I bought Dom had a sample basket you could buy so you could try em before you bought the bigger container Sent from my iPhone using RNYTalk

How Long Will This Whole Process Take?
rabrijumo replied to Fishy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes it depend on your insurance requirements. get with the surgical coordinator at the office and let her/him spell it out for you. Then get to work on the needed documentation. Like when did you have your last sleep study? ever had a colonoscopy or EGD? psych eval for surgery with a bariatric counseler(make sure its whatever you insurance requires ie psychologist vs psychiatrist) try to get copies of all testing to send in to your bariatric surgeons office to minimize things getting lost. I make them make a copy and keep a copy myself. set up a primary care doc medical clearance for surgery appointment but not more then 30 days before the surgery date itself. if you have cardiac or pulmonary comorbidities you will need appointments with those docs to to clear you for surgery. I went to my first seminar april 10th and my surgery is scheduled for 9/25 so a little ove 5 months . I had to do my three months of classes at the bariatric groups office and when it was completed they gave me a date 2 month in the future that was dissappointing but maybe if I had been more pushy I would have had them set a date in anticipation of completing the classes instead of waiting til they were done. good luck -
